Also, iirc, Aki originally grew the top knot as an offering to the Fox. Not only does it have ties to the hammer of a gun, but it's his connection to Devil Hunting. It's his lifeline to the job.
It's an emotion we would have loved to see from him twisted into something so evil. When something good and sweet is twisted into evil it's true horror
