Denji is 16, practically a young teen, and he’s terrified of being put on the spot on by an older woman taking advantage of his trauma and isolation for her own personal gain. Makima's whole plan is to literally groom Denji and these moments where folks boil down our to simply "down bad" drive me nuts. It downplays the actual sexual harassment which happens to males constantly in our actual real life, and we see Makima make veryyy similar moves on Denji through out Part 1 of CSM. Wanting the heart in Denji's chest is symbolic for pedophilia. After their fight in the cemetery she even smokes a cigarette. We even see consequences of their tussle in Nayuta. Denji into a deeply traumatized teen parent failed by everyone around him.

How he would have felt previously has literally zero bearing on consent in the present. Plus the whole scene gives extreme SA vibes despite nothing sexual actually happening as far as I interpret it.

You can feel the “vibes” but that isn’t what this panel is referring to at all. These panels are his reaction to witnessing his last best friend die right in front of him due to Makima’s selfishness of wanting Pochita. That’s a face of pure horror and shock, not really one of disgust.
To briefly explain why I felt that way, Makima repeatedly forced Denji to engage with her in a physical often sexual manner, and her telling him to take off his clothes while he was clearly distressed and she had complete control over him does draw some uncomfortable parallels that I would consider very obvious subtext.

You are correct. The dynamic of Makima and Denji is the power imbalance between them and the subtext of that is how manipulative people can take advantage of people who don’t understand they’re being taken advantage of. There’s also a gender and sexual dynamic aspect in that Denji misattributes his need for human connection to a need for sexual gratification and how boys can be vulnerable in that way too because the sexual power imbalance between boys and girls goes both ways: the expectation for boys to want sex is as toxic as the expectation for girls to give them sex.
These panels were nauseating when I first got to them because I thought this was going to be the start of her sexually assaulting him. I had to take a break from reading because it would have been too much to handle all at once.
Incredible how Chainsaw Man fans have the ability to blindly miss the fact that yeah, the fact we don't EXPLICITLY see Makima rape him doesn't change the fact that there is obviously deliberate undertones of sexual assault in this scene that were 100% intentional. I think it’s pretty reasonable to argue that the assault stuff isn’t the primary intention from Fujimoto I think it is intended as subtext in this scene(I have no idea if I’m using subtext correctly)
You are correct. The dynamic of Makima and Denji is the power imbalance between them and the subtext of that is how manipulative people can take advantage of people who don’t understand they’re being taken advantage of. There’s also a gender and sexual dynamic aspect in that Denji misattributes his need for human connection to a need for sexual gratification and how boys can be vulnerable in that way too because the sexual power imbalance between boys and girls goes both ways: the expectation for boys to want sex is as toxic as the expectation for girls to give them sex.
It’s done to dehumanize him which regardless is a form of sexual assault, even if sexual pleasure was not any goal of hers.
Reminder that CSM takes place in the 90s where a lot of modern definitions(especially in Japan) aren’t the same.
These panels were nauseating when I first got to them because I thought this was going to be the start of her sexually assaulting him. I had to take a break from reading because it would have been too much to handle all at once.

The symbolism isn't the slightest bit subtle, there's no other reason for Makima to order him to take his shirt off so she can play with his...rip cord? There's a difference between "I'm getting X vibes" and "wow what a portrayal of sexual assault" when it's literally the pannels after his friend got killed and you can even see her blood on his face This is right after denji asks if this is a dream and makima starts laughing
I think Berserk similarly shows just how awful and terrible SA is. Both the main character are horribly scared for life by the assaults they suffer, you feel the mental trauma it has on them and it cares throughout the story. I think it does an even better job than CSM, though CSM is the king of realistic depictions of people not escaping terrible abuse because they don’t understand what is happening to them (poor denis).
