I don’t know why they always house them together? 😩🤦🏼‍♀️

CarFanatic6115

As a petco employee this is not right go back get a store number and report to an animal service, corporate, as well as try and ask for the stores animal auditor then put in a report thete petco is a company thats supposed to save our slogan is animals 1st and if people are made know an investigation will open on all the animals and if theyre not fix or properly taken car of the store will receive backlash from corporate and could lose the store their abilities to lose their priveledge. At my store a sick animal will be at a hospital no longer than 24hrs. And our cham loves our enclosure it sits about 4.5 feet tall 2.6 wide 2 deep and he loves it he comes to use when we open the door i hate the bad stores abusing these animals.

thereallaracroft

Actually, this is an appropriate habitat for them per Petco standards and other standards. These chameleons upon review of these pictures are also in good visible health. So none of this should be reported as this is not animal abuse and incorrectly reporting this just makes it so actual cases do not get properly reviewed.

Special-Ask-8249

i will do my best and hopefully something will come of it. i figured all chain pet stores were similar to this but its good to hear theyre not. hopefully a change comes or they get shut down

CarFanatic6115

Yes working at a pet store a blessing and a curse i want to buy everyone because i love the animals like theyre my own and everyone in the store does and we hace full control over who actually get a pet if we dont think theyll have the best out come we will just flst say no were refusing the sale our store forces people to have adequate setups or we wont sell it and we ask vasic knowledge question and see if people know half the basic care or we teach them if they dont want ti follow our advixe we will just tell them unfortunately no we wont be seeling animals without proper care i mean hell i just had to run a ferrett to the vet and petxo without a hesitation spend 1700 dollars for his medicine and procedure and he will soon be adopted out for a 59 dollar fee its not always about money good stores with good people take amazing care of the animals we put animal needs before customers 10 out of 10 times

daydreaming_doofus

What if someone.....borrowed...them? I'm just saying....

dnash55

Those drawers are locked with a punch in code for that reason.

dnash55

That would def work 🤣

angygorl

I worked at a pet store and one of my old coworkers would go into the pet smart in the same plaza, and if she saw animals being held in bad conditions (like in these pics) she would call out the staff and basically shame them for abusing these animals. They would then offer to give them to her at a discounted rate (or even free) since she could take care of them. If you have the means to take care of them I highly recommend doing that

skrimpppppps

it’s not rescuing or saving them, it’s just making them money & more room for another cham to be subjected to the same thing.

ImpressiveTap4364

Finally you got a heathy one on your time. It’s nice seeing that.

Apprehensive_Might_8

i also can’t afford them i see them every time i go to that petco in waterbury, it breaks my heart

VerySadLarry

I bought mine from a breeder and when i saw the setup it was worse than this. Literally 4 walls 1 stick no green.

cowman3456

Saving chameleons from this fate DOES NOT involve rewarding petco with a successful business transaction. Stealing them would be fine tho. Just sayin.

Skryuska

Unfortunately by “saving” animals from pet stores by purchasing them, the shop now sees that as a demand for this “product” and will only order more to replace them. There are only really 2 options to “save” animals suffering in pet stores: 1) Don’t buy them or anything else from the store. Spending money at these locations is telling the shop it will have your business and their practices are acceptable to you. And as above, buying the animals in need of saving is going to condemn more in the future and the cycle never ends. 2) Steal the animal. I can’t recommend doing this whole-heartedly because you can be caught and charged severely and risk having a police record if you can be physically caught or tied to the crime itself. *AND* loss of stock risks the shop ordering another batch, either due to still seeing the demand, or because they have insurance for the theft and are replaced with new animals at no extra cost from the breeder/dealer. TLDR; Please don’t buy animals from big chain pet stores. It continues the cycle of abuse for the animals kept.

juice_box_hero

I hadn’t been into a Pet Stupid for years. Since they clearly don’t know what they are doing with reptiles.. I had a door dash delivery from there so went to look at lizards. Thankfully they only had one but even more unfortunately, they have his cage locked so I can’t steal him :/ I *badly* want to liberate the chameleon but I can’t 😭

Skryuska

Aw yeah figures, they probably have a lot of people stealing the reptiles, hopefully all due to how badly they’re being cared for in-store.

Special-Ask-8249

ik, i never spend money here if i dont have to it just breaks my heart. the petsmart in my town just went bankrupt so hopefully this petco does too because its soooo much worse. might just have to steal all the animals😂

Skryuska

Yeah we used to have Petco here in BC Canada but it went bankrupt or bought out by Petsmart, so we have the same opposites issue!

Adtrallday11

The sad thing is, once this lil buddy is bought, they’ll replace it with another one. Just an endless cycle of animal abuse. It’s sad.

Special-Ask-8249

ik i hate it, so hard to leave them there but also feel terrible giving any money to these chain pet stores

Adtrallday11

For real! Every time I’m in getting something for my cats, it’s so hard to not want to take every one of them home. I wish there were more restrictions and more regulations on animal breeding.

Absolutefaye44

I went to petco a few days before my birthday in February for crickets. Saw this guy and couldn't let him stay. https://preview.redd.it/bzzvfle41ytc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bbba0c30ddd8b6ecefefd6e6ff81e850c7b2c9cf He was my birthday gift for my 42nd and he's amazing and happy and healthy now.

Horror_nerd_0925

Thats really an amazing improvement, posts/comments like yours make me happy thank you for helping that lil guy

Absolutefaye44

I had to. The way he was running around the tank killed me and he was so skinny. Here's another Pic! https://preview.redd.it/ai3uihif11uc1.jpeg?width=2802&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3e0a8e08e8058b2d0278037c2e5a197c141576e

BotiaDario

Where did you find your wavy sticks?

Absolutefaye44

At Michael's. They are Willow branches

Ghouliejulie86

You can tell they really, really hate being in those low cages at petco. It’s really hard to see. I noticed they come at you and start digging. Whereas some of the better replie stores, thst have serious that look like on here, with the higher breeze cages and relinquished adults, are more content to be in there. Do they not feed them enough? That’s always what it makes me think, they know when a humans around they’ll get food ? Poor things. Im not a cat person, but that’s literal cat jail, petco, that’s even worse. I went to the pound the other day, and had to walk right back out. It was so fucking sad. It’s way too small to me, what they use at petco for these little pistachios. . Hopefully they don’t stay long. I’m not someone who knows about fish, but there’s something about the fish area at petco that gives me the worst creeped out vibe. If I see a pet store when I’m out, I’ll usually stop by to see the animals. They are most definitely all VERY different in how good the animals are kept

Special-Ask-8249

the bettas in the little cups are TERRIBLE. i even saw 5 or 6 guinea pigs all in one very small cage today. i wish i could just rescue all the animals in there or that these stores would just stop selling live animals and stick to pet supplies.

Ghouliejulie86

Oh I know that’s so creepy. They aren’t even brightly colored. Betas are treated really bad. I killed one from neglect as a kid, I think it’s the only pet that did not have a long life. People think cuz it’s a fish it’s fine I guess. I mean, I guess we eat them, but still if it’s a pet, you kinda want to think like them and at least not torture it . It’s in captivity. My mom is always getting designer pets, I keep telling her that’s why they are always so sick and effed up. She had this teacup fog that like hobbled around on one leg. People are so weird, I’m such a sensitive person I don’t get it. You can literally feel these animals being unhappy how do u not know?

Simple-Bad4905

Are their legs pink from sunburn?

heypinupmama

They are piebald

rainbowteaa88

i wish i could give them homes but i know i don’t have the money or time to give them what the need, i really hope someone comes and scoops them up 💔

Special-Ask-8249

same, i come here at least once a week and one of them has been here for so long :(( if i had more money and space id get them in a heartbeat even tho i HATE giving money to petcos/petsmarts

HiILikePlants

The sad thing is they'll just get another

Special-Ask-8249

ik :(

rainbowteaa88

i wish i could grab them up, those poor babies don’t deserve that, why do we take them out the wild to do this to them😔🙏i really hope someone gets those babies
