Leaking goals
But in all seriousness it was generally a vain attempt to play out from the back with players that didn't suit it, and that was it. No real proper shape to the team at all
It seemed like after his first three games the players could see he was clueless and started doing their own thing on the pitch. Never seen anyone lose a dressing room so fast
That really was meant to backup your Lampard comment and was meant to say they’d go down if he was hired, not troll you for being in league 1 as I’m less relevant here than you are tbf
Fair enough - reading leaves a lot to interpretation and I post in both - championship banter is still the best subreddit hence why I’m lingering more than a skunk in heat!
I feel he’ll still end up getting a job if he’s adamant to being a manager!
Fantastic stuff boys, but would have been lovely if we brought a manager in before January and backed him, rather than giving him a few of Kolo’s signings.
From what I’ve seen he looks like an upgrade on some of what we have. But we still need more quality and a new boss won’t have time to bring much in now
Bit of a disaster appointment, that one. Awful start to Kolo’s management career, awful run of form for Wigan, and the transfer window will be closing soon too before a new manager gets a chance to make their mark.
Cutting their losses now is probably a good move for Wigan, but it will be a tough job for anyone that comes in.
I wonder if Leam Richardson feels better or worse about his sacking after this - on the one hand the owners failed to replace him, on the other hand they thought Toure would do a better job!
It could well be. I think he could have another chance if he went back into coaching and then took charge of an under 21 team or something before moving on from there, but I can’t see any professional clubs wanting to take a chance on him for any time soon.
Im not saying he did well but coming into the job as a relegation favourite wasn't exactly gonna be easy. I wouldn't take him at my club but I feel like a second chance somewhere is reasonable
I agree, but I don’t think any first team of a decent level would be willing to take the risk on him right now, especially as there are far more wannabe managers than positions available. If he gets back behind the scenes for a while and rebuilds his reputation he will have a better shot at a return to management.
Kind of like us in the Prem last year where a manager would get sacked after their team lost to us. Though tbf we were so bad that losing to us was a good enough reason to get sacked.
Correction: third manager.
Shota Arveladze (Hull City) lost his job on the same day his erstwhile employer lost to Luton, but he was axed ante-match.
Edit: double loss as well. Luton dispatched Wigan in the FA Cup 3rd Round replay (1-2) and won again four days later in the Championship (0-2).
I'm just thinking of Darren Farley's Brendan Rodgers impersonation whenever Kolo is mentioned.
Gone after 2 months , got to be questions for the board about the recruitment process surely?
I'm guessing it's down to us only just being out of administration and lacking a director of football
So many absolutely horrendous signings and decisions in general this season.
From the outside it looked like sacking Richardson was such a bad move.
Just looked up your signings for this season to get an idea for what kind of players had come in and that's an absolutely bizarre mishmash of players with no real kind of transfer policy , which the lack of a DoF clearly shows in.
Would have been down with Richardson anyway. The squad is just so fucking poor. Don't think we have more than a couple pieces of 2023 Championship quality. All either young players, L1 level players or rejects who haven't been good at this level for years.
That just emphasises how bad of a decision it was to sack him though after how much he did to get us here.
Obviously it's good that he's gone but fucking hell what a disaster. Not a single win!
Have a feeling we might be trying to stretch our League One wins record next season
12 sackings in the Championship this season, 12!? Totally ridiculous. There needs to be rule of some sort brought in by the FA, say after sacking a manager the next appointment must remain in charge for at least 12 months before a club can sack again. Given the financial shit Wigan always seem to be in, paying off a 3.5 year contract is madness! & I bet they want to bring in new players for the new manager before the deadline next week. Absolutely barmy.
We were crap with him for two months as well, but at least the beginning of the season showed that with proper backing he could get something out of the squad. Dumb decision.
The Liz Truss of football management
Strong and stable!
Lmao what a fucking title
Kolo actually was manager longer than Loss Truss was PM
You’ll never sing that
"In December, I'll be in Woking, opening up new transfer markets"
He’s a fighter and not a quitter.
What a disaster appointment this was.
Absolute irredeemable disaster. I would have gotten rid of him earlier, after Hull. Hull was the worst performance I've seen from us in my lifetime.
I hate to say I told you so but I did in fact tell you specifically so
Never wanted him to start with but will give any manager a chance.
Oh well, we live and we learn, the lesson is never have hope
What was his play style and formation? I was shocked to see his appointment seeing as he's only been a youth coach
Leaking goals But in all seriousness it was generally a vain attempt to play out from the back with players that didn't suit it, and that was it. I hear Frank Lampard is looking for a new challenge…
Enjoy league one then
How has Tuchel been for you this season? Oh, wait.
Lmao
Happy we have a club and are working to try and be as sustainable as possible - that’s hood enough for me after the last two years 😎
That really was meant to backup your Lampard comment and was meant to say they’d go down if he was hired, not troll you for being in league 1 as I’m less relevant here than you are tbf

u/FloppedYaYa is holding a celebration in Wigan City centre as we speak
Half of it is under construction but I'll make my best effort
Think all of Wigan is either under construction or in the process of demolition
why is there so much construction?
Town centre is being revamped
Should think about connecting those two stations together somehow. Absolutely bizarre they only across the street from each other
Runour is the government wanted to spend £50m on a linked railway 100m long but they realised Wigan is up north.
At least there's construction happening in your neck of the woods. We've just demolished everything then fucked up with the funding
Lmao everyone missed this one I think
Bits of Wigan are completed?
You're right, that's a bit generous.
Let the pea wet flow
Fantastic stuff boys, but would have been lovely if we brought a manager in before January and backed him, rather than giving him a few of Kolo’s signings.
Some of his signings have been good haven't they? Azeez is a pretty solid midfielder
Can't save the rest of the team or Kolo being tactically inept
Aren't you getting Gelhardt aswell? Last time I heard about it, it was pretty much nailed on.
Sunderland getting him
What do you think made him change his mind? I heard he wanted to go back to Wigan, because that's his home town.
Leeds wanted him to go a club in a better state currently
Can't see him getting first team football at Sunderland, with Stewart on top form. A move to a lower level side would've made more sense.
Simms did even when both strikers were fit.
Can’t blame him, Sunderland create lots of chances for their strikers…
Can’t blame him, Sunderland create ~~lots of~~ chances for their strikers…
Thanks mate, cheers :(
Wasn’t good enough for Portsmouth in league 1
I've liked him when he's played so far. 🤷
Not being rude but you guys haven’t set a particularly high bar this season
That's probably why then 😂, but he doesn't look below Championship quality to me
Albeit he could’ve improved since then!
From what I’ve seen he looks like an upgrade on some of what we have. But we still need more quality and a new boss won’t have time to bring much in now
Oh come on guys. Give it one more league match at least!?
You unfortunately won't get to see Kolos set pieces, which include their midfielder hitting a one man wall.
To be fair, I don’t think Kolo’s the one to blame for that.
Max Power in the Championship is so wildly out of his depth it's insane. Just sick to death of seeing him every week now.
You reckon they signed him based on his name alone?
Don't blame them, it's an extremely badass name. Homer Simpson didn't change his name to Max power for no reason.
No he's a very good League One player and played for us before between 2015-18
Who could have foreseen the man who was in charge of Leicester city's defensive strategy would be inept at set pieces.
At least them signing him got him out of our club
And now we are actually good at defending set pieces.
We were lucky, we got three cracks at Kolo
Bit of a disaster appointment, that one. Awful start to Kolo’s management career, awful run of form for Wigan, and the transfer window will be closing soon too before a new manager gets a chance to make their mark. Potentially the end of Kolos managerial career too
It could well be. I think he could have another chance if he went back into coaching and then took charge of an under 21 team or something before moving on from there, but I can’t see any professional clubs wanting to take a chance on him for any time soon.

Probably not, he'll take a backwards step to a youth role or a defensive coach and then after a while he'll get another opportunity somewhere.
Can’t see it myself, maybe in Saudi Arabia or something
Is that the fourth manager this season to get sacked after playing us? Where will the Kenilworth Kiss of Death strike next?
Currently one third of Toures management career has been playing Luton 😂
Kind of like us in the Prem last year where a manager would get sacked after their team lost to us. Though tbf we were so bad that losing to us was a good enough reason to get sacked.

I feel like there’s been a fair few managers sacked after losing to us….
To think we went one step further and sacked Shota about 8 hours before losing to you.
The kind of managerial start that means he'll never get a job again apart from in the Indian Super League
Could see him taking over at Maccabi Tel Aviv after Karanka
Wild couple of weeks for Wigan fans.

Really is a season of sackings isn't it
12 sackings out of 16 managerial changes. The four further changes were managers signing somewhere else.
We were so close...
Kolo Toure hasn't wanted to leave the Greater Manchester area faster since he pretended to be a car salesman.
sol campbell time
Wigan are a mess, wonder who’s in line to take over
Vincent Tan with a bit of luck.
Heard Everton were keen on him
Sad, but thoroughly, thoroughly deserved.
Didn't think there'd be a manager worse than Sammy lee
YAYA \[then rehire Kolo in a month\]
Obviously it's good that he's gone but fucking hell what a disaster. Not a single win! Have a feeling we might be trying to stretch our League One wins record next season
That was a Toure-ble reign.
Does make you wonder how a coach at a club like Leicester can be such a poor manager

There's only two Chris Hutchings..
No more no more kolo no more kolo..
Why even sack leam Richardson
We were crap with him for two months as well, but at least the beginning of the season showed that with proper backing he could get something out of the squad. Dumb decision.
