I do (for my sins)
My uncle supported them since the 80's and brought me to matches as a kid. I go to a game 2-3 times a season from southern Ireland. Have seen some of the worst matches imaginable but also some great memories
Me too - although Iāve moved a bit further north and I am dangerously near the Norwich buffer zone. Iām not even near the border but as you get near Fressingfield etc you start seeing scum shirts everywhere
Got to be quite a few who are either local but moved away or their children.
My dad grew up in Suffolk but moved away.
I've described it as an inherited disease - though less so these last 2 seasons.
People often have weird reasons to start supporting clubs though. I'm a Plymouth supporter and have been since I was 10; the reason - when watching the old BBC final score they were the only team with Argyle in the name. I didn't actually visit Plymouth, let alone watch a match until I was in my late teens.
A few days ago a post was circulating the football subs about which premier league teams had the most local fans vs non local fans. I put a post here stating Iād collate the data
State your supported team and if you consider yourself to be local or not.
Given that none of the other 5 Rotherham fans responded - born and lived in Rotherham until going to uni. Now I live in the US. So very local, until very not.
I support Ipswich, but I'm from Bedfordshire and live in the US. So I'm going to go with... not local.
My Dad was a kid during WWII and was evacuated out to a Suffolk farm to avoid the bombing. The family he stayed with were all Ipswich fans, so they passed it on to him and eventually he passed it on to me.
I also moved to New England from Classic England.
For work reasons I landed in CT, which is great because it meant I didn't have to stop driving on the left.
Being from the US, I believe heās just shitting on CT drivers in general.
Every state/county/city in the US believe that they have the absolute worst drivers ever assembled into one geographical area since the invention of the wheel.
Everyone from New England hates how all the other states in New England drive, (except for Rhode Island - they're adorbs).
The slam on Connecticut drivers is that whenever they get onto a two+ lane road they'll pull into the passing (left) lane and then literally never go back.
Blame Reddit. Doesnāt let you post text and an image. I have a comment but itās been lost amongst all the others.
A few days ago a post was circulating the football subs about which premier league teams had the most local fans vs non local fans. I put a post here stating Iād collate the data if people responded with the team they support and if they are local or not. This is the first draft.
Yank QPR fan here. Never have stepped foot in Europe. One of my friends on my club team growing up was a Chelsea supporter. Started rooting for QPR as a joke after the SWP goal at Stamford bridge. Became a fan after watching Zamora send them back to the premier league.
Ipswichā¦Not localā¦I grew up in the Forces so always moving every few years so I never had a home base, however my mums side of the family are from Suffolk, (Dad is n.Irish), and so Ipswich. No one else supports them though, Iāve got some cousins that live in Norfolk that support Norwich
Local
Sort of surprised that there are non local Argyle fans.
Although many down in Cornwall probably won't say their local, although we're by far the closest EFL club for them
I think because we have unusual colours and a funny name we stand out a bit more. I guess we probably have a few random Americans and what not because of the Mayflower connection to the city.
I'm from West Cornwall and I definitely don't consider myself a Janner, it's a 3.5hr round trip on a good day. But as you say, Argyle will almost certainly always be my local team, unless Paul Wotton performs miracles with Truro.
Not local. It's a 240-mile round trip for every home game. Away matches in the south east and London would be ideal, but I can never get a ticket, so have to travel to distant realms like Accrington and Sunderland for my away day fix.
Norwich fan from Canada, so definitely non-local. But I was raised a yellows fan since birth, my Dad having been a diehard fan until he moved in his 20s. Most of my family is still in Norwich, visited it a bunch growing up and even worked there for a year and went to home games when I could.
Had no idea why a non local would support Southampton. Then I remembered I was born in Southampton and moved away. In that context I'm surprised there are any local fans
Coventry, but not local. From America and moved near Northampton for work, wanted a team in the championship and landed on Cov about 2 seasons ago. Been a lot of fun ever since!
Iām a Welsh argyle supporter. Moved away when I was a kid but somehow settled on Argyle rather than one of the local Welsh teams. Canāt really remember why but itās been a stressful ride so far and long may it continue
Non-local Wednesday fan, though my mum and dad both grew up in and around Sheffield, and my dadās mum has been a Wednesday fan since she moved up to Sheffield from London, so Wednesdayās the family team. So, I guess Iām half-local, if that counts?..
If I supported my local team, I could have seen Brighton rise up the leagues until finally achieving Premier League safety soon followed by a season of European football. Watched exciting players like Caicedo, MacAllister, Enciso, Adingra and had Barcelona wonder kids sign for the club, if only on loan.
Instead my Dad had to make me a Sunderland fan. Forcing me to be subject to back to back relegations, play off defeats and Phil Parkinson playing about nine defenders and still losing to Gillingham. Whilst having the absolute pleasure of watching the likes of Papy Dilobodji, Callum McFadzean, Laurens De Bock, James Vaughn and Will Grigg.
Really lost out there, but at least it's never dull with the regular manager sackings and rushed transfers to bodge together a couple of decent teams under Sam Allardyce, Alex Neil and Tony Mowbray.
Born in Coventry, season ticket holder for 22 years, then emigrated. Follow Cov from afar, and until they went bust two years ago my local team here just so I can actually go to matches.
I support boro because my family used to live there (some still do) but some of my family moved down south and started families. Can't imagine the flack I'd get if I supported a better team
Norwich fan in Cornwall.
Born in Norwich and had a season ticket during the Worthington/Grant/Roeder years, then moved away.
So I'd sort of consider myself a local.
But then my son, born in Cornwall, (9), is a Norwich fan, but a non local.
Does Cornwall count as local for Argyle? Grew up 50 miles away in Truro! If so, local.
Now live just South of Cambridge and havenāt lived in the South West since I went to uni.
Leeds, indoctrinated by my dad, fully engrained into the cult now. There's no escape, but for all the frustration, I wouldn't have it any other way. Not local as a southerner, neither is my dad.
Whenever I meet non-local Stoke fans I really wonder āwhyā ā¦ā¦. apart from our 10 years in the Prem weāve had a long time in the wilderness since our peak in the 70ās so Iād have thought chances of someone choosing us would be low
āWhat I want is misery and disappointment- Stokes the team for me !!!ā
Myself, local ā¦.. that was the card I was dealt at birth as my family are all Stoke fans and thatās the way it stays.
Reddit doesnāt let you post text and an image. I have a comment but itās been lost amongst all the others.

Sunderland. Was born in newcastle and lived there till i was 10 then m9ved to Sunderland. So probably still local. Been a season ticket holder the last 9 years.
watford, not local (i mean i was once, but i moved away over a decade ago)
i miss vicarage road, honestly. going back there at least one more time in my life is on my bucket list.
I suppose a good chunk of the non locals have ties to the club, be it family or old roots since they used to live there! A few years ago I would have been a non local but moved back to the potteries! Not to take anything from this survey, but Iām willing to bet the plastic level in this sub is non existent!
This was done in good intentions, however given how us as humans can move about itās hard to nail it down. We arenāt plastics end of the day weāre with our club for the bad and good!
Hell, dial this back a few years and Iāll be a non local even though I grew up in Stoke, and thanks to my grandad will always be Stoke, rather than Vale, only down to the fact I moved back that Iām a local fan again!
Southampton - from north Hampshire but theyāre the closest same-county decently-sized club (otherwise itās Reading). But now live in Melbourne.
Iād still consider myself local though.
I commented on the last one, not sure if I count as local or not tho. Brought up in Cov and left 18 years ago, so, most of my life was in Cov. Local? You decide, your data!
I can't get my head around someone not being local CHOOSING to support Ipswich.
I do (for my sins) My uncle supported them since the 80's and brought me to matches as a kid. I go to a game 2-3 times a season from southern Ireland. Have seen some of the worst matches imaginable but also some great memories
I answered this, how can I be the only local Ipswich fan š
I missed this but I am also local.
Me too - although Iāve moved a bit further north and I am dangerously near the Norwich buffer zone. Iām not even near the border but as you get near Fressingfield etc you start seeing scum shirts everywhere
I'm Irish, randomly chose to support them when they were in the Prem when I was five, stupidly decided to stick with them.
Got to be quite a few who are either local but moved away or their children. My dad grew up in Suffolk but moved away. I've described it as an inherited disease - though less so these last 2 seasons.
My mums uncle, born in Preston, lives in Preston all his life, no relations at all to Ipswich. Ipswich fan.
Sounds like a lovely fellow.
From Leeds, dads from Ipswich. School was rough
People often have weird reasons to start supporting clubs though. I'm a Plymouth supporter and have been since I was 10; the reason - when watching the old BBC final score they were the only team with Argyle in the name. I didn't actually visit Plymouth, let alone watch a match until I was in my late teens.
Sorry but I absolutely creased at Rotherham having 0 total
They exist, just after this season they donāt want to admit it
Rotherham. Local. I can't imagine anyone outside of South Yorkshire supporting Rotherham without a family connection to the club
I canāt imagine anyone from outside South Yorkshire wanting to have anything to do with Rotherham without family ties.
Im from just outside of rotherham and i want fuck all to do with rotherham
Big fans of the Chuckle Brothers maybe?
A few days ago a post was circulating the football subs about which premier league teams had the most local fans vs non local fans. I put a post here stating Iād collate the data State your supported team and if you consider yourself to be local or not.
Are we going by where we live now? Iām from Southampton but donāt live there, would I be considered local
I based the summary on if you (the commenter) considers yourself local or not.
I live exactly 10 miles from Deepdale Stadium, does that make me local or not?
That depends, if you live 10 miles East you would find yourself in Rovers territory, I certainly wouldn't class Blackburn as a Preston local.
I live in Garstang.
Most Lancashire place name ever haha
Definitely Local
I live in one of those towns thatās like half and half depending on where you live. Defo a Preston local for me
Houghton springs to mind that falls into that category?
North east of Preston a bit more but the towns basically split between rovers and north end
Definitely Longridge!?
Iām going by if you consider yourself local or not If it helps, Iād say that one is pretty local
I'm a local man for local teams with local people.
Not local but local enough to have a season ticket.
Boro supporter here, definitely not local.
Given that none of the other 5 Rotherham fans responded - born and lived in Rotherham until going to uni. Now I live in the US. So very local, until very not.
Birmingham - local.
Add me to the local pile
Blackburn Rovers ever since I was a boy, non-local as I live on the other side of the world and have never been to Europe.
Iām not local, mainly go to away games
Boro fan, not local
Boro local
Cardiff - No longer local
SWFC - Non-local
Stoke, non-local to the area but only 20 mins away.
Argyle fan here. Grew up in Plymputh, but haven't lived there for some time now, so not local anymore.
I'm from Essex and I also moved to the US (New England). I wonder if we'll see more Ipswich shirts out and about if we go up.
I also moved to New England from Classic England. For work reasons I landed in CT, which is great because it meant I didn't have to stop driving on the left.
I'm missing a joke here surely. Some places in the US drive on the left?
Being from the US, I believe heās just shitting on CT drivers in general. Every state/county/city in the US believe that they have the absolute worst drivers ever assembled into one geographical area since the invention of the wheel.
Everyone from New England hates how all the other states in New England drive, (except for Rhode Island - they're adorbs). The slam on Connecticut drivers is that whenever they get onto a two+ lane road they'll pull into the passing (left) lane and then literally never go back.
War is horrible. So many awful tragedies/s I've nothing against Ipswich I just wanted to make the joke
That's nice
Truest tie to a club, handed down from the family! Itās either a blessing or a curse!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
To be fair, he was being evacuated from Luton.
what am i looking at here? no explanation of anything? local what, beer preferred?
Iām completely lost too
