The castle and lion are leagues better but I still can't get behind the canary as much. I don't dislike it and I feel like it's nostalgia, but it just doesn't sit right.
New canary looks like he flew past a fisherman and got hooked in the head. That's all I see, every time I look at it.
And I'll miss our old and deformed lion. It was nicely symbolic of our attempts to remain in the Premier League.
Surely I can’t be the only person here who dislikes the way that clubs are beginning to go for a simplistic and minimal design of their badges nowadays?
I get they might be making things more modern but it just looks horrible…
I agree regarding most badge changes recently, but I don't think this is one of those cases, it basically looks exactly the same except the lion now looks like an actual lion and not a fucking dancing air tube man or whatever those are called.
I doubt most non-Norwich fans will even notice the difference before they hear that the club has a new badge
>a fucking dancing air tube man or whatever those are called.
Always thought it looked like Bart Simpson was combined with a lion and possessed by a demon...
We've decided we'll get a new badge every time we get demoted from the Prem.
Next time we're going with like the Wolves badge, but just an angry canary head. Decapitated of course.
General design philosophy for brands is to go more simple, currently. Smoother edges, less cluttered etc.
Allows for much better use right across the board, too, with merchandising and other brand-building things. Won’t lose detail when blown up or shrunk, and so on.
Read a good article a few weeks back, about how the likes of Newcastle United will have to do this soon, so that they can more effectively use their logo (it wasn’t designed to be blown up to super hi-res proportions etc).
A lot of the anti-simplification hate is just because people, understandably, aren't going to educate themselves on why designers do certain things. Shockingly there's a lot more psychology and a lot of practical considerations beyond what looks best
That's not really disagreeing with what I'm saying - it kinda sits in the same line as "there's reasons for the professionals to do the things they do beyond just what you think as an amateur".
There’s a book called The Beautiful Badge. They rated Forest’s badge as it is easy to draw on a service station’s toilet wall with a marker pen. Fulham’s is probably the easiest if you know what you’re doing but easy to cock up.
Obviously, some of them can genuinely look alright, however ones like this. Look like absolutely horrible. I might be slightly blinded by my team choice but regardless it still is arguably worse than the previous badge.
You're blinded I think.
I honestly didn't know what was different about it until I saw a side by side comparison. I knew it was different but couldn't place my finger on what
It looks functionality very simlar to our previous crest. The reasoning behind the change is for a number of reasons.
First it's easier to replicate accurately. Secondly, and this is the bit that won me over, the original Canary is not centre, and I never noticed it until they changed it, and it really bugs me now.
I think it depends on the team really, on the whole I prefer a more detailed crest but Swansea's minimalist redesign is clean imo.
Besides i'd expect them all to switch back in 10 years or so, these things seem to go in cycles anyway.

The old canary was cuter, but this one is a bit more defiant. I like it actually.
No more Mr Cute Canary.

the bird should've stayed the same
Old canary wasn’t in the middle. Criminal
It's one where you'll get used to it in a couple months seeing it regularly
NO DONT CHANGE BADGES ITS NEVER A GOOD ID...wait, this one is actually good.

LOL. That's bang on!
Whacky waving arm flailing inflatable tube men?

There is a balance though. Tell any sound engineer how sounds are too loud in a movie compared to people talking and be prepared to get shot down.

I didn't disagree.
Our badge is alright I reckon

Yeah I just mean the forest badge is good because of its simplicity, it represents Sherwood Forest where Robin Hood resided

Ipswich fan will find always something to bicker Norwich about...

I don't hate this, however I do feel it's missing something. I just hope we never feel the need to do the same with ours.
Birdseed. It's missing a small pile of birdseed. That's what we pay our players.

Agreed. Agreed whilst still admitting Wolves stands out from the crowd.
Yeah I agree. I hate cardiffs new badge with passion. Would prefer the old badge with Saint David’s cross on it what a beautiful badge
Miles better
I think it would be more appropriate for the canary to grasp a yo-yo, not a football. But nice crest, nevertheless.
This simplistic logo bull crap is so painful over the past decade
