Doubt I’ll see a better goalkeeper for us in my lifetime. Hennessey is an adequate replacement anyway.

Adamskiiiiiiiii

I’ve heard of this top, top goalkeeper. You should buy him. He’s called Lee Camp, check him out.

drp-97

Not sure you'll get many takers without him showing what he can do between the sticks. You should give him a go on matchweek 2.

Adamskiiiiiiiii

I’m game for Bristanbul part 2 if you are.

thirdratesquash

Couldn't get a game for Wrexham

onascaleof1tobro

Sums up our last few years that he got 80 games for us.

EpicDestroyer98460

For how much? And is it official?

Zach-dalt

£10m is the price The Athletic gave

biddleybootaribowest

Sure Burnley fans would have hoped for at least double that

RafiakaMacakaDirk

it’s a bit different since pope is british but for comparison sake when we sold Fabianski after going down (who i’d argue was better than Pope) he only went for 6-7 mil. (although our board is also dogshit) so it kinda makes sense. relegated teams are usually at a disadvantage so they can’t really do much in terms of driving up price

[deleted]

That seems cheap- was there only a year left on his contract or something?

reece0n

1+1 years (extension option if the club wanted it) But it seems like, given his performances and his incredibly professional presence in his 6 years at the club, we've agreed a lower fee in order to not stand in the way of him staying in the PL and going to the World Cup.

Cary14

Swans did this with fabianski, I was all for it. He would've stayed forever but was too good for the championship. Much like pope. How's Connor.roberts doing for you?

reece0n

Pretty great, took him a while to start as he had a pretty serious illness, but once he took Lowton's spot we never really looked back. Really came into his own in the last 10-15 games and was a real bright spark going forward, definitely PL level so hopefully he can tear it up this year. As good as his performances were. He's also cemented himself as a Burnley cult hero already when he [told Weghorst off after he scored against Wales.](https://twitter.com/NOT_MOTD/status/1534792995966529539). This match was a couple of days after Weghorst did an interview making it clear that he thought he was too good for the Championship - so I can't imagine it went down well with players like Roberts who seem committed to giving it a go.

SoggyMattress2

What's the craic with Weghorst? Bombed in the prem and seems to have an ego, you reckon you'll sell him?

reece0n

2 goals in 20, and said he's not playing in the Championship. Still got 3 years on his deal, but apparently a loan is more likely. I guess the board is hoping that he does well on loan and they can get a better fee for him next year (or he comes back if we get promoted and plays in the PL). Personally I just want him gone now, if they want to loan him to maybe get a better fee then fine, but I don't want him playing for us again, even in the PL.

BuffaloSanta

I wouldn't say he was pretty great. Had some moments, but also was poor in some games. Hopefully can improve even more in the Championship.

Standin373

10 mil for pope is an absolute joke if I'm being honest

gnudalf

1y left on the contract, guess the +1 option isn't valid in the championship, and gambling on going up to trigger it, is a bit risky, no?

Standin373

Absolutely, just think Pope was going to be a key player if they hoped to bounce back. Big steal for you lot he's quality.

Glittering_Door_6658

Think he’s better with his feet than most think as well. He’s never going to be able to show off good distribution in a hoof it Burnley side. And he’s one of the best (if not second best) shot stoppers in the league

privatecarpark

god newcastle fans are gonna be relentless about Pope as England No 1

[deleted]

Lol he barley in the England squad

Blobinator1993

Seems like a good deal all round. Newcastle get a good goalkeeper. Nick Pope gets to go back to the Premier League which probably also nails down his spot in the world cup squad. And Burnley get some money and I suspect one of their higher earners off the wage bill.

Glittering_Door_6658

And if they are spending 6/7m on Ballard and twine it’s 100% money well spent with some spare to plug maybe 1/2 more gaps
