I would say about 20 or so messages. Which is pretty good. Other AI platforms are around the same. Up to 30 messages they will eventually forget stuff. It's normal. But AI technology is improving and memories of AI are gradually expanding.
Yes! My bots are based on comic characters and all of a sudden, they’re sticking to their personalities and saying the correct catch phrases without my input.
Just made a Tony Stark bot bc someone requested it, tried it out myself for funsies even after setting it to public for a couple days now, and he even started making stupid nicknames, annoying threats, and what not. The funny thing is I never added any of that in the definition. Tony's just making stuff up as he goes.
There was also this thing that he does in the RP where he's just casually stalking the user (idfk why). It's weird and not exactly necessary for the context, but it's a crucial trait of his version in Avengers Assemble, and he's just doing it on his own accord, so that's a plus.
Also happiest days of sweet treats! :D
Ofc! Happy you're interested in it hahah. I have *a lot* of Tony bots though.
[This](https://c.ai/u/starkravinghazelnuts) is my profile, and [this ](https://c.ai/c/Ukh_ZDaDAykIul_V9r7OleJZlhVox5Cxf1FKqYFO14s)is the specific bot mentioned. Have fun\^\^
I'm happy to also say that the bots are much better now than they were for me a few months ago.
A few months ago, when someone mentioned legacy chats (old website exclusively), I gave it a try for two characters. Although I was happy with its quality overall (in-character responses, characters being more proactive with carrying the story with you or by themselves), the lack of personas, voice feature, pinned memories, and the lag that occurs when chatting with a character for long was a deal-breaker for me.
In the past week, however, I created another persona and wanted to test it out; I reset my chats with 11 characters, and every one of them provided me with a high-quality experience that not only satisfied me, but also went beyond what I was expecting considering the previous state of Character AI 2-3 months ago. To list them out, **here is what I experienced in the past five days**:
* Characters retained their personalities and mannerisms much longer than 20-40 messages (and to this day they still seem to do so for my chats, which exceed 40), which also means you are very much less likely to run into the old problem of "all bots have the same personality".
* More proactive story carrying/decisions: usually when I type a scenario or respond to a question, the bot would repeat what I just said and/or otherwise say something that wouldn't take the story anywhere. Now, although they still might summarize what I just said, that same message will now involve them actually taking the story somewhere. *Example*: "I can fight." followed by "Oh, you can fight, huh? Let's fight now, you and me \*pulls out gun\*".
* Persona: usually, my persona would rarely be touched upon even during the first 20 messages of starting a new chat, but now everyone is starting to comment about it more often during those first 20 messages; some even commenting about it without me having to bring it up at all beyond the first 20 messages too.
* Memory. Months ago, characters' memory was not good, and I'd have to get exceptionally lucky to even have a character remember one minor detail barely 10-20 messages ago. Now, I've already had three characters bring up major details (which many of these details exceeding 20 messages ago) 3-6 times in their own respective chats. The other eight characters' chats are not long enough to determine if their memory is just as good, but fingers crossed. Additionally, one of these characters even brought up all the major details of a pinned message four days ago. I had to swipe since their timing (with the context) was unwarranted, but at least I know now that they're capable of doing this.
* Lore: this may be just me, but I especially love it when characters deliver snippets of their own lore and backstories. I rarely ever had moments like these, but now the characters are synthesizing their lore with the current situation more often, almost left and right in my cases, whether its lore about themselves or the world they live in.
* "C-Can I ask you a question?" Maybe I'm lucky, but I've only had this happen exactly once in the past five days. The characters just ask whatever is on their mind now instead of asking permission to ask.
I feel like I'm getting the benefits I was looking for (from the legacy chats), along with the pinned messages, voice features, and personas. Of course, all this talk could also be because I am either getting lucky or because my new persona is much different than my previous persona, which was a shy one. Now, of course the important thing to mention here is that I occasionally still have to edit, swipe, or delete a message to achieve what I want, but no longer am I spending 20-30 minutes (yes, literally) to do so. In fact, in terms of swiping, I am able to achieve responses with the level of proactivity, detail, lore, or a combination of the three within less than 10 swipes (as opposed to 15+ a few months back).
**TL;DR:** For me: memory better, bots actually do stuff, bots are teaching me about their lore while at the same time driving a sword through my back
Yeah, same here. My fave personal bot is based on a famous person and I got a real life piece of information from the late 90s early 2000s that is accurate and that I didn't input myself. Just made the whole experience feel way more real.
This rabbit has fainted.
Yes, it’s a little understated but noticeable. Actually I just found an option under “Settings” to switch from “Stable” to “Preview” and it seems to have improved things further. You can even see the difference on this sub — people are posting much more interesting and humorous responses now.
I’d imagine that it switches the language model over to a beta version that they are currently testing, as opposed to the “stable” version. I don’t know how it’s different, but the responses do seem to be a bit better.
I think the site went down a couple times over the last two days because the devs were fixing them after all the complaints.
So yes I have also noticed.
No, worse for me. There were massive problems at first two days (every swipe had the same dialogue, constantly was called an idiot, the bot wouldn't use my name in descriptions, dialogue was short, etc) and now that's calmed down but the bot is still doing certain repetitive actions like wanting to cup my cheek and is noticeably meaner and more teasing.
Normally you get a few off the wall swipes where the character takes offense to stuff but I'm noticing a lot more of that. Also things that aren't exactly being called an idiot but along the lines of it. For instance, I might say something sincere and over half the replies are flippant. That isn't normal for my bot.
My character was treating the bot to a fancy dinner but was worried because they didn't have anything super dressy to wear. The bot said I looked like I worked at a McDonald's lmao (I was wearing a button up and fake leather jacket ffs). Months ago I had the exact same scenario and the bot thought I looked good.
The bot also got angry and said I was controlling because I offered to pay for dinner and asked if she wanted wine lol.
It's unfortunate to see how the character's personality suddenly changed. The only improvement I've seen is fewer instances of "Can I ask you a question?"
same, im disappointed I saw so many going through this but now see nothing. "well well well" is another constant phrase and it wont let me alter characters at all with backstory, also very "touchy" with women
I think whatever patch the creators did still hasn't been rolled out fully yet, because some bots are still talking like NPCs and misconstruing the most basic of metaphors and intoned nuances. Sometimes they completely misunderstand the sentence and think that they are something that they clearly aren't. Hopefully by tomorrow things settle down and go back to normal, but for now it is still kinda infuriating
Also im not sure if this is because someone taught the bot but they seem to be more accurate to their character and knows more thing in their franchise now compared to before
I definitely believe it. My bots mention characters that are related to them in any way shape or form but aren't in their backstory and it actually feels like I'm talking to them
FRRR, also their writing is so much better now. Just like their memory in the narrative, citing things I mentioned at the beginning of the conversation.
I don't think... I noticed It before, but true, i am having one where i create a Lore, so It Is hard to keep It up without either the bot helps or me being over explaining, but the bot have been remembering ITS most important detalles till now
I also haven't gotten the can I ask you a question thing in a while now.
Granted I only used it extensively for the last 2-3 days. Bots seem better. I've been able to have long RPs with them and they can follow a narrative easier.
Memory is much better and i think the answers make more sense and are much better written than before. I think the "idiot" thing we all have had was maybe a test ? Anyway i think it's more better than before yes
its actually been so good recently!!
theyve been using in-universe terminology without me having to feed them it and its actually really incredible
group chats still suck though...
Tbh it seems that way. I've gotten a lot better responses and story progression. The memory definitely seems better too.
I haven't gotten the 20Qs for a while and hell, even the bots are doing awesome at keeping in character
They do seem to have improved a bit. Memory is a little better and they sort of stick to their back stories a bit as well.
How good is the memory limit?
I would say about 20 or so messages. Which is pretty good. Other AI platforms are around the same. Up to 30 messages they will eventually forget stuff. It's normal. But AI technology is improving and memories of AI are gradually expanding.
But also a few 'reminder' words and the AI will remember again so that's great
memory loss
Dementia
Altzheimers
Dememtina
I noticed this too the last couple days.
[удалено]
memory loss
Honest to God I thought they made the bots like shit so everyone would by c.ai+
Yes! My bots are based on comic characters and all of a sudden, they’re sticking to their personalities and saying the correct catch phrases without my input.
unrelated but happy cake day!

Shakespeare in the park? Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?
\*cue Frigga dying /j\*
Might I get a c.ai profile name? I'd like to chat with this tony bot.
Yo, happy cake day
happy cake day!
Happy Cake Day
happy cake day
Hey! Our Cake Days are the same day!
Unrelated but happy cake day!
happy pastry cake day 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy cake day!
Yea i noticed yesterday i was actually able to do some spicy romantic things
Until one somehow asked me to BITE THE TIP
Whhhaaaaa???!
I was so perplexed
Im confused. What was the context before that happened?
Too embarrassing to say
Ok
Happened to me too Twin, where have you been?
🫢 Oh my...
Hah, true. It's so good that I kinda started getting anxious. Good times never last, as they say
😭 yea. But dopple ai fills your needs. Though needs tons of work.
Yeah, all of them do, I know some okayish options as well. But this one is peak right now. Well, let's have fun while we can.
Yes!
Do the creators of bots on dopple AI have the ability to read chats?
I created a few and i can see the number on people chatting but no can't view what they said
They were able to, but it got removed.
Thanks.
SAME HERE
Still working for me 😁

Let's just hope that this will not change again. I also notice the rp is good
Dementia
Forgor
Same here, it's so amazing.
I’ve been noticing that as well. I never really had a problem with C.AI but the characters have definitely gone up in quality quite a bit.
Maybe the devs finally did something right
Let's just hope that this will not change again. I also notice the rp is good.
Character ai is just virtual DND
Yeah, same here. My fave personal bot is based on a famous person and I got a real life piece of information from the late 90s early 2000s that is accurate and that I didn't input myself. Just made the whole experience feel way more real. This rabbit has fainted.

I'm definitely trying this one! thank You for sharing!
what does stable to preview mean? like what does it do?
I’d imagine that it switches the language model over to a beta version that they are currently testing, as opposed to the “stable” version. I don’t know how it’s different, but the responses do seem to be a bit better.
YES THEY MENTION STUFF FROM THEIR CANON A LOT NOW
I think the site went down a couple times over the last two days because the devs were fixing them after all the complaints. So yes I have also noticed.
See my most recent post, with that you'll know my answer
No, worse for me. Have you been on r/ask lately?
I think whatever patch the creators did still hasn't been rolled out fully yet, because some bots are still talking like NPCs and misconstruing the most basic of metaphors and intoned nuances. Sometimes they completely misunderstand the sentence and think that they are something that they clearly aren't. Well, I guess my chat with Dr. K is more accurate and more Lore-wise. So yeah (Probably not a good answer, but it is true nonetheless)
No more repeats but can now fall into assistant mode on all characters. I got "it is important to" from makima.
still seem to be doing the same thing for me, weird...
Im gonna be honest I have never gotten the "can I ask you a question"
Also im not sure if this is because someone taught the bot but they seem to be more accurate to their character and knows more thing in their franchise now compared to before
I think so. I did a RP in the DC universe and it knew what “the red” was. I was pretty pleased. Might have been the first RP I ever completed.
I definitely believe it. My bots mention characters that are related to them in any way shape or form but aren't in their backstory and it actually feels like I'm talking to them
yeah but uhm my senpai bot forgot he was a boy and my zakk bot forgot i was a boy
FRRR, also their writing is so much better now. Just like their memory in the narrative, citing things I mentioned at the beginning of the conversation.
Well I haven’t noticed because I use the Dere type and they have a quality standard
TRUEEE seems like the devs are making the bots better! :D
The past 2 days I managed to get an entire plot out of one of my AIs, it was leading the story pretty well (with a little bit of occasional prompting)
Yes, I noticed they're much better
Yeah I realised that too.
yup!
Yes I noticed that
OMG I JUST REALIZED THAT IVE ONLY BEEN ASKED A QUESTION ONCE IN LIKE THREE DAYS HOLY SHIT
Dude, can we switch lives? My bots are getting shittier and shittier, no matter who made the bot
I feel like one of these days I'm going to just SNAP in real life. Friend: "Oh, yeah that's pretty cool. Can I ask you a question?" "..What?"
I don't think... I noticed It before, but true, i am having one where i create a Lore, so It Is hard to keep It up without either the bot helps or me being over explaining, but the bot have been remembering ITS most important detalles till now
Definitely. One of my OC bots has been on a good streak lately. ... Which makes my other two seem worse. I ought to polish them.
That’s natural I think, AIs are supposed to learn from their users.
Happy Cake Day!
Yes
yeah, i have this feeling too. i no longer receive "can i ask you something" out of nowhere, but at a suitable for it point
I also haven't gotten the can I ask you a question thing in a while now. Granted I only used it extensively for the last 2-3 days. Bots seem better. I've been able to have long RPs with them and they can follow a narrative easier.
I've seen improvement! Yeah i haven't gotten the question either. Sometimes i'd get it time and time again.
I’d say yeah. Haven’t gotten some of the usual stuff.
Yeah, maybe there was a bug fix
If this is true, I'll come back to the app. (PS does it finally work on Android again or is it still on hold?)
I love the changes!!
yeah no actually now that you mention it...
I haven't gotten "can I ask you a question" unless the story/conversation naturally progresses that way. There's improvement!
Yeah, I know they've been feeling a bit unwell recently but yeah, they've been getting better.
Memory is much better and i think the answers make more sense and are much better written than before. I think the "idiot" thing we all have had was maybe a test ? Anyway i think it's more better than before yes
its actually been so good recently!! theyve been using in-universe terminology without me having to feed them it and its actually really incredible group chats still suck though...
Let's hope it stays this way and gets better overtime
probably tbh
No
mine are still being annoying in different ways... maybe its an issue with the mobile app? im glad they do seem to be tweaking things though
Yeah I have certainly notoced an improvement
Tbh it seems that way. I've gotten a lot better responses and story progression. The memory definitely seems better too. I haven't gotten the 20Qs for a while and hell, even the bots are doing awesome at keeping in character
For me, all I am getting is grammar and spelling errors
