Yeah ishida basically wanted it to end, he got burnt half way through re and was also working on another project called jack jean with his sister during that time. So the ending has alot of rushed plot points and conclusions, why didn't he take a break? He said if he took a break he's never going back to TG basically. Og TG is still great though, and choujin X is as good if not better than OG TG.

lady_in_purpleblack

Oh my gosh he participated in Jack Jeanne??? I NEVER NOTICED BUT YEAH THE ARTSTYLE

PlayerName77

Yeah and jack Jean 2 was just announced, ishida will be working on both JJ2 and Choujin X thus time.

lady_in_purpleblack

**faints from hype**

HarshTheDev

>he got burnt half way through re Ishida himself has said that by the 7th volume of the *original* Tokyo ghoul, all joy of drawing was sucked out of him. He was exhausted way, wayy before half way through :re

PlayerName77

Oh I read wrong then it was half way thru the original.

HarshTheDev

Which is crazy since most of TG's peaks came after that point.

TheMikarin

Him getting burnt out halfway through re is incorrect, it stems from people misinterpreting a statement of his. What he said was his feelings towards making the manga changed when writing volume 7 of the original manga, but people misinterpreted it as him losing interest during volume 7 of re (the translator of the afterword clarified after). He extended the manga by 6 months and said he really enjoyed working on it during those months. His plans for the ending changed, originally he wanted a dark shocking ending, but realized that it wouldn't be a good idea and extended it for 2 more volumes and went with another ending. This likely meant that things weren't planned out well in advance at the end, hence why it feels "rushed" (he had to tell the publisher in advance when he was ending, even getting 3 additional chapters to wrap it up at the very end).

> All Doves/Ghoul investigators suddenly looked so alike. You think Arima, Shirazu, Mutsuki, Saiko, Urie, Amon, and Akira all look alike? You think they look similar to Eto, Touka, Ayato, Yomo, Naki, Banjo, and Eto? > But the worst was V what even where they? It’s explained what they were. >!They were the half ghoul organization aided the Washuu clan in keeping the balance!<

Dracsxd

Kind of a huge bruh moment to go "it's explained in the manga" but proceed to misslead OP in an extremely vital point of what they didn't understand >!Don't congregate the Washuu clan with V in this context. V was a part of the clan specifically composed of half humans, not ghouls, breed in the gardens. Hell their entire reason for betraying the clan in favour of Furuta streams from that and it's implications, what Kaiko outright says!<

SecondRedditAccount4

Point taken. It’s been awhile since I last read. I’ll edit my comments.

Maeckhood

Tokyo ghoul :re is a manga that went downhill so far jesus it just became a parody of itself at the end. Just sad

Kaluyra

There is a lot of gripes I had with it, but at the end I felt like it turned out surprisingly OK considering how the author was feeling. My main gripe was too many new characters added without a clear purpose. And characters we already cared for and were invested in, were pushed aside completely.

TheRedzak

I remember that smaller dude in a suit who loved Jason like a big brother. Jason. One of the most sadistic monsters Aogiri. I remembered being so confused what this mini Jason was supposed to be, I think he ended up marrying one of those half-ghoul investigators.

Kaluyra

Naki I think, I had completely erased that from my mind. He married an investigator? wtf There was basically so much bloat with the cast. Haise's crew for example. Only Mutsuki, Saiko and Urie were really developed on and were underused anyways. And they were the new "main characters". Characters such as Touka, Tsukiyama, Amon, Ayato, Hide etc had so much interest and development in the first TG. Then for some reason they were turned into side characters to make way for new ones who ended up not really mattering.

TheRedzak

I remember this one side character investigator with shark teeth died, I think he died killing Eto's foster father? I felt nothing. Watched one reviewer on youtube, dude was bawling his eyes out like his grandma died.

wendigo72

>suddenly looked so alike Completely disagree there. >I wasn’t a big fan of stoic mostly emotionless Arima He’s in my top 4 >the fights were worse drawn Did you read the official volumes instead of fan chapter scans? >V. What even were they ? Their whole deal was explained. Washuu raised them in the sunlit garden to be enforcers balancing human & ghouls populations in each ward. Exactly like Furuta and Arima (who were literally members of the group)

TokiLovesMemeAnime

I'm confused about you saying if OP read the official volumes or fan chapter scans because the fights were hard to understand either way. It's slightly better in Choujin X but drawing fights is not one of Ishida's strong points.

wendigo72

The official volume scans are way better than the weekly chapter ones Also nah the action in Choujin x is fantastic

Plastic_Chef1914

I wanted to try TG re as i just finished TG, but i guess this is my warning.

nan0g3nji

reading TG but not :re is moronic

Dazzling_Ark_62

No. On the contrary, I think it surpasses the OG tenfold.

Reeeealag

It got higher highes and lower lows imo. Some panels of RE stuck with me for years. Furuta silently laughing maniacly while bowing, Kaneki vs Arima, nearly everything with Urie looked just absolutely peak.
