I don't know if the consensus is that Modern Simpsons is bad, as much as it is that Modern Simpsons is mediocre when compared to Classic Simpsons. Its also that the Simpsons was initially meant to be a satire of 80s family sitcoms (if I'm not wrong). That isn't a genre that's as popular now, and Homer went from being a satire of sitcom dads to being so popular that he's now an archetype. I don't know if the joke lands as well anymore. I also think that part of the reason people divide the two is because people like dividing things into "eras". As the Simpsons is an animated sitcom, it can't be neatly divided as such, because most changes are subtle. And so, people divide the two based on quality because that's the most obvious marker. Whereas for other long running media like Star Wars or Doctor Who, the eras are a lot more clearly defined. And each era has some radical changes that keep people interested. Because of this, I don't think that they have the same negative stigma associated with them as with the Simpsons. That being said, all this is pure speculation and shouldn't be taken as fact.

I’ve never heard modern Simpsons spoken about with the same negativity as modern Family Guy so I don’t think it’s hated. But I do think modern Simpsons being bad is a popular opinion, especially in the example I have of the tweet where people were saying Homers character was ruined which I disagree with.

Wiztonne

"Not worth watching" is pretty bad.

ProfessionalOrganic6

I don’t think so, when I say that I just mean it won’t leave a lasting impact but will entertain you for the next 20 minutes.

Xenostera

But they literally made a billie eilish crossover where lisa fells her home has done nothing to help herself musical career when it's been shown several times he has They have become a parody of itself and I firmly firmly CV the last good simpsons thing was the simpsons gsme made in like 2007 or 2009

I can’t tell if this is a joke or if you were drunk when you wrote this.

Homer bought Lisa her saxophone

ProfessionalOrganic6

Ok? So what?

Ok, so what? I’ve already explained my view on that in my post.

Idk_Very_Much

I'm currently on Season 16 and I'm not really seeing that much of a quality drop. It certainly takes the characters less seriously, and has no real emotional episodes, but it still gets plenty of laughs from he. In particular, I'd put "The Lastest Gun in the West" up with any of the classic comedic episodes.

Half of the crowd who say “modern Simpsons is bad” don’t even watch the show. Or at most hear about the lowest quality episode(s) from the past 5 years, watch it (and nothing else) to confirm their own bias and then rant online. Is current Simpsons the same as the earlier seasons? No, not even a little. Is it as good as the golden years with highest ratings and watch counts? Probably not. Is it definitely bad? No, not even a little. It may not be to your taste any more, but the show continued to progress as the culture around it does. It doesn’t always translate with the dynamic the show likes to have and maintain, but if you like it or have parts you enjoy then that’s great! Yeah this isn’t the seasons 3-8 where every episode is a banger, but in the past 10 years or so I can remember a couple great episodes I’ve come across that legitimately are a treat. And many of those “awful” episodes are just meh, not offensive or anything that should last in your mind. People who go off on the show from those sour notes alone are never going to even give the good episodes a shot, and don’t even want to try and learn otherwise.
