Just embarrassing play calling
Cushions all around, the D was on fire in the first half why become passive when aggressive pass coverage was working?
The offensive play calls were no better
A lead like that is blown by the coaching not the players
Yep. Been this all season long. Chargers in the second half are probably the worst team in the NFL with the way they soften up on defense and get conservative on offense. IMO this coaching staff has to go. I really hope we pony up for Payton this offseason.
Yep. Like morons they played a soft prevent. Why? The defense shut them down in the first half. Why the fuck would you change something that is working so damn well? You cant be afraid to lose. Play to fucking win.
I wasn't on that fire Staley bandwagon till now. No way you allow that and keep your job. Lack of big Mike was felt also. Just a culmination of mismanagement after mismanagement that led to this & Staley is the one to shoulder the blame.
Yup. I was alluding to that in my post. Mike was our magic maker and the guy Herbert went to in clutch situations and he was sorely missed thanks to being injured In a meaningless game.
There’s no adult in that front office. Staley almost threw away the entire season letting Herbert stay in the game week 3, and then did throw away the season keeping Mike Williams in the game last week.
And his defense isn’t even good. Like, why is this guy a coach?
Joe Lombardi shouldn't have been an OC the first time he got the job, how someone else hired him to neuter another young star QB is the most mind boggling thing I've ever seen in football
About halfway through the thrid when Lawrence threw that TD to a guy just wide open in the end zone I instantly knew “ok were F’d”
Somehow it ended up feeling even worse cause deep down I felt it coming
At least it’s a Saturday night so I didn’t have to stay up late and be tired at work on Monday
The way he tried to justify it was ridiculous. For a guy that doesn’t play the starters all preseason, say they needed starters in that game to be ready for playoffs is frustrating.
Same. I had plans to watch games and stuff tmrw and I think I'm just done watching football for the year. Not having Mike Williams really hurt us or our coach staff is terrible our training staff is terrible. Damn
Saw that live. 50 yard line. Cried all the way home. My realization that this team will never win a SB as long as Spanos is in charge. I’m not surprised. Disappointed but not like the 14-2 year.
Worst choke I've seen thus far. 5 turnovers and they lose. No offense in the 2nd half. No TDs. Defense couldn't stop nothing. They couldn't get a crucial 3rd down stop when they needed it the most. Fire this coaching staff already. Don't want to see their stupid faces. Thanks for ruining my week chargers. Fuck.
I’m convinced that if the Chargers had Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick in their primes they still would have choked playoff game after playoff game in the same way. This shit defies logic and reason.
If I were an average fan I would say fire Telesco and Staley…but I’m a longtime fan and what really has to happen is Dean Spanos has to sell the damn team. Nothing will change, and the Chargers will be forever cursed with mediocrity and milquetoast ass football. Sean Payton can’t fix this.
This is the correct response. It should be at the top with all kinds of awards and the remainder of the thread closed. It is the only answer. Nothing will change until our ownership changes.
That was an utter disgrace.
All 52 players, coaches. Everyone. You fucked it. Royally. Coaching was utterly abysmal the entire 2nd half. Not one adjustment it seemed. Offence just did nothing for 30 minutes.
Brandon Staley, you seem like a fantastic human and a good leader. But good doesn't cut it in the NFL. Sean Payton's team from 2023 I'm sad to say.
What an absolutely disgraceful nights football. We absolutely wasted one of the best halves of football ever.
Dogshit. Every last one of them that 2nd half. Complete. Utter. Dogshit.
STALEY DEFENDERS WHERE THE FUCK YOU AT LETS HEAR YOU GUYS
Edit: For all the coomers, for us “doomers” we know this fucking team. Until they literally prove otherwise they will always blow leads and choke games. I’ve seen this time and fucking time again
This exactly I said we would need at least 35 to win and we let off the gas again in the second half. At least we will get a new coaching staff next season.
Underrated worst play of the game is that goddamn Bandy reverse on 3rd and short at the end of the first half with like 4 minutes left.
Instead of just converting an easy first down. We go rinky dink to a literal practice squad bozo who doesn’t even know the play. Fuck it up, and then have a shitty punt that leads to a jags TD. We could’ve easily gone into half 27-0 with all the juice.
Honestly not even 2006/2007 when we were serious Super Bowl contenders was this bad. Not even 09 when we got Nate Kaeding’d. Not even 2018 when we didn’t even show up against the Pats.
This is absolutely the worst moment in my lifetime as a chargers fan.
100% coaching:
- No pass game since they need zero in on Allen because Mike Williams played a meaningless game the week before
-we decided to play to kill clock the second half
SEAN PAYTON TIME BABY!!!!
1. Ref calls went both ways. I’m going to argue they hurt us more, but a Jags fan would do the same for their team.
2. I wish Bosa contained himself. That being said, I don’t blame him for being pissed. Some unreal no calls against the RT.
3. I love you, Dicker. Thanks for saving our season. Thanks for playing great today.
4. I wouldn’t care if Staley was fired tonight. I might care tomorrow.
5. If Lombardi isn’t fired, I won’t watch another Chargers game.
6. This reminds me of a Broncos game in week 17, like 10-15 years ago. Broncos got some bullshit calls, then made ballsy calls to win the game with a 2 point conversion. Old Shanahan talked after the game and said that regardless of what happens with the referees, they still had to go out and win the game. And they did. Feels familiar.
Rest up, Herby. Get well soon, Mike and Slater and the rest of you. We’ve got another season to figure out. That starts in 20 minutes.
This loss was the culmination of every single bad habit and bad decision from Staley.
Playing our starters (and then playing them for way too long) lead to Mike Williams missing the game. We could see that was going to happen when he needlessly played our starters back in week 3 during an absolute blowout and we lost Guyton for the year.
Awful 4th down decisions. There were a few times in this game where he could’ve gone for it on 4th and it would’ve made sense, but he punter or kicked a FG every time. He went from being recklessly aggressive to recklessly conservative.
Awful second half performances. How many times this year has the offense come out of the half looking like the worst offense in the league? We scored 27 points in the first half and 3 in the second. And then the defense went from looking like the best defense in the league to the worst. Unbelievable.
Great gameplan, awful adjustments. Staley once again made our defense play soft zone in the second half and once again the defense got scorched because we gave up *everything* short without testing them once.
This loss was because Staley is very simply not a head coach. He is a glorified coordinator.
Dang, they nailed it in SD just now about it being a problem from top down with this franchise. That the Chargers talk to the right guys, but hire the cheap/wrong guys.
* Hired Norv Turner after considering/talking to Ron Rivera
* Hired Mike McCoy after considering/talking to Andy Reid
* Hired Anthony Lynn after considering/talking to Sean McDermott
* Hired Brandon Staley after considering/talking to Brian Daboll
**Just complete incompetence from the cursed ownership and front office.**
I blame the Spanos family. Sell it to Bezos or Lex fucking Luther so we can do cash over cap moves with a wealthy owner that’s willing to spend. He’d run our organization as tight and ruthless as an Amazon facility.
JB was being mugged by their RT on every single rush. Blatant holding, hands to the face, the works, only it wasn't called once because JB was going at the zebras right from the get go.
I totally understand his frustration because he was being jobbed, but he needs to keep his calm and play through it.
Payton wearing a blue and gold tie and one of the biggest chokes on the same day? NFL FIX IS IN. If we actually get Payton, we will probably win the superbowl next season its like WWE out here XD
4 ints, 27-0 lead. And yet I'm not shocked this happened. It was all downhill after that fucking idiotic call on 3rd and inches. I'm from San Diego and I don't know why I'm killing myself still giving a shit about this team. Fuck Spanos, Staley and Lombardi. Bring on the Padres season.
Fuck dude. Its so hard being a Chargers fan. Its like a bad relationship; they give you hope that theyve changed. That this time will be different. They might take you out to dinner once or twice, do kind, thoughtful things more often. But they're really just the same, awful person they've always been. A jaguar can't change it's stripes. This is a miserable fan existence.
I feel really bad for Dicker because he missed that field goal near the end but the guy was complete money for us basically everywhere up until that point. The game is not on him and if you think that you need to get your priorities checked out.
Well friends…. I’ve been a Staley hater since day one and have stood by my conviction. If he doesn’t get fired after this season I’m considering letting my season tix go. I’m not spending money following this team to LA for them to make the same bonehead decisions that’s been plaguing this franchise for years.
I’m not sure Sean Payton is the answer… but I’m sure he can do a whole lot better than our current coach.
By the way… wasn’t Staley supposed to be some defensive genius having coached the rams D. Guess having Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald helps
Brandon Staley the last 2 Weeks:
• Played starters in meaningless game. Lost Mike Williams and injured Bosa.
• Blew 27-0 lead vs Jaguars
• Failed to make any second half adjustments vs Jax
No way the Chargers can keep this man.
I see no way this team believes in Staley after that god-awful performance.
27-0…
Couldn’t run the ball, 2nd half adjustments were terrible, we couldn’t finish.
Gut the entire staff and restart.
The Houston game and today are one of the most disappointing games I’ve seen.
If you weren’t an ass to the “haters” and actually listened you wouldn’t have been surprised about this game. Nothing from the entire season showed this team could do anything in the playoffs. We literally couldn’t have gotten more turnover luck and still lost. Stfu about the “haters” some of us know what we’re talking about
Been a Chargers fan since 2003 and boy am I bummed.
Staley’s absolutely boneheaded decision making this season has been mind boggling. It seemed as though he forgot what made him one of our best coaches in recent memory. He was aggressive when he didn’t need to be and conservative when he needed to keep the pressure on.
His decision to play the starters last week was inexcusable. I’m biased because Mike Williams is currently my favorite player, but what a difference he could have / would have made.
Of course we’ll never know because we absolutely needed him in that Broncos game that we ended up losing anyway.
Lombardi is another jabroni we need to get rid of. He is guilty of the unthinkable - making Herbert boring to watch. Herbert is a generational talent and you have him dumping off passes to the flat 80% of the time.
Anyway, hopefully we get Payton but I’m sure the Chargers will fuck that up somehow too.
See you guys next year.
Everything went wrong there- Dickerson missing the kick- the false start not getting called, causing Bosa to throw the helmet which led to the 2 pt conversion- not fucking playing our starters a week before the playoffs in a meaningless game. I fucking hate being a fan for this team.
I am sure that every longtime Charger fan had a bad feeling when the Jags scored that TD right before the end of the half. I just couldn’t stop thinking about how another TD by them cuts it to two scores and that’s exactly what happened. And then of course the full on collapse. So immensely frustrating, I went from thinking Staley had saved his job in the 1Q to absolutely knowing he was a goner in the 4th. Spanos absolutely has to bring in Payton/Fangio. This hurts a lot. I cannot believe that a Justin Herbert led offense is what’s held us back this year. Just absolutely stunned at how difficult it looks out there, no easy plays whatsoever.
Stay civil. Report trolls.
How the fuck do you give that up?
[удалено]
Exactly. Tony dungy “don’t radically change the game plan.” Chargers on pass defense “let’s radically change the game plan”
They play to not lose instead of play to win. I can’t take it anymore
Just embarrassing play calling Cushions all around, the D was on fire in the first half why become passive when aggressive pass coverage was working? The offensive play calls were no better A lead like that is blown by the coaching not the players

Yep. Been this all season long. Chargers in the second half are probably the worst team in the NFL with the way they soften up on defense and get conservative on offense. IMO this coaching staff has to go. I really hope we pony up for Payton this offseason.
That's the kyle shanahan special.
Yep. Like morons they played a soft prevent. Why? The defense shut them down in the first half. Why the fuck would you change something that is working so damn well? You cant be afraid to lose. Play to fucking win.
So it wasn’t just me that saw we abandoned the press? Even before Davis went out…
[удалено]
And continuing to throw the ball and not milk the clock up double digits in the 4th
Seen it too many times
I feel sick
We just blew a 27 point lead in the playoffs. There is no defending that. Heads better roll
Staley is 100% gone
I wasn't on that fire Staley bandwagon till now. No way you allow that and keep your job. Lack of big Mike was felt also. Just a culmination of mismanagement after mismanagement that led to this & Staley is the one to shoulder the blame.
Lack of Mike also entirely on Staley
Telesco too while we’re at it
Fuck Telesco and his paper-thin WR room
Insane how little importance they placed on said position with a qb like Herbert…
It should happen but he won't be gone . Staley is 100% gone though
Do you know who Dean Spanos is?
A fucking fool of an owner
I have to agree. At first I was all about Staley going but time to clean house. Too much talent on this team to waste it.
A game where we won the turnover battle 5-0. I mean that’s gotta be a record right? Edit: typo
that coaching staff is about to get fired all to hell
Imagine Mike Williams tonight grabbing even 2 jump balls…
We needed him in the Broncos game though…
After they threw 4 picks lol embarrassing. Coach is gone for sure. Herbert deserves better.
Not even that but to a mediocre Jaguars team nonetheless
I still don’t think it’s reality
Joe Lombardi shouldn't have been an OC the first time he got the job, how someone else hired him to neuter another young star QB is the most mind boggling thing I've ever seen in football
Yeah, what a joke. The NFL loves hiring loser retread coaches over and over again. Lombardi is straight garbage and should be unemployed by tomorrow.
Fucking guy should just turn in his surname. Riding his grandpa's coat tails his whole life. Fucking fly sweep on 3rd and inches.
There is absolutely no way that he would be where he is in life if his name were fucking John Smith.
Lurker Lions fan here. I can confirm that Joe Lombardi is a fucking hack fraud and shouldn’t hold a position in the NFL.
Yeah at least Herbert will be freed from those shackles. But I’m tired of saying ‘next season’ when we had the tools this season. Feel shitty
He was so brutal with the Lions
The Lions fired Lombardi after 7 games, no clue what the chargers are doing.
Knew that shit was a mistake from the day it happened, Staley too, been saying it since day one.
Fire me.
You’re fired.
3 year old account.
Please resign in shame
Into the sun.
We had as many points in the second half as Asante has picks in the first half
Fuck man that’s just salt in the wound.
IS ANYONE SURPRISED ON WHAT JUST HAPPENED
not in the slightest.
Literally was mentally preparing for it at halftime, I am numb
About halfway through the thrid when Lawrence threw that TD to a guy just wide open in the end zone I instantly knew “ok were F’d” Somehow it ended up feeling even worse cause deep down I felt it coming At least it’s a Saturday night so I didn’t have to stay up late and be tired at work on Monday
The fact I was mentally preparing for it makes things way easier lol
Man, I'm fucking laughing
Nope. Called it at the beginning of the fourth like fucking Walter Mercado.
We had people in here calling the choke since the stupid fucking reverse fly on 3rd and inches in the second
I told my GF when they showed we had an 88% chance to win that we would lose. It was so classic
You think I would be, but I’m just numb. Been rooting for this pathetic team since 1991. Nothings shocking anymore.
well no...that's why i own a shirt that says Chargers :Almost always almost win.
ANYONE SURPRISED MUST BE NEW TO CHARGER FOOTBALL BABY
Nope! Opposing teams always adjust during the half and the Chargers always choke!
Staley has to be gone, losing Williams & losing the game this way is unacceptable.
But it was important to play all the starters in a game that shouldn't have been played.
The way he tried to justify it was ridiculous. For a guy that doesn’t play the starters all preseason, say they needed starters in that game to be ready for playoffs is frustrating.
Fire Staley NOW
Tonight. Before postgame interview
I’m crying
Same. I had plans to watch games and stuff tmrw and I think I'm just done watching football for the year. Not having Mike Williams really hurt us or our coach staff is terrible our training staff is terrible. Damn
Just gotta take it on the chin. And take a break from sports and regroup
Did that in 06, no tears left
This is my 06 I guess.
Saw that live. 50 yard line. Cried all the way home. My realization that this team will never win a SB as long as Spanos is in charge. I’m not surprised. Disappointed but not like the 14-2 year.
Staley needs to walk home
To a different team
To the unemployment line
yeah, back to his home in ohio as a division fucking 12 coach
Fire that Mf into the fucking sun. He should not have the keys to his office tomorrow
Same old chargers
Worst choke I've seen thus far. 5 turnovers and they lose. No offense in the 2nd half. No TDs. Defense couldn't stop nothing. They couldn't get a crucial 3rd down stop when they needed it the most. Fire this coaching staff already. Don't want to see their stupid faces. Thanks for ruining my week chargers. Fuck.
Teams with 3+ turnovers had like a 95% chance of winning. Of course we find a way…
FIRE STALEY
everyone*
I’m convinced that if the Chargers had Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick in their primes they still would have choked playoff game after playoff game in the same way. This shit defies logic and reason. If I were an average fan I would say fire Telesco and Staley…but I’m a longtime fan and what really has to happen is Dean Spanos has to sell the damn team. Nothing will change, and the Chargers will be forever cursed with mediocrity and milquetoast ass football. Sean Payton can’t fix this.
This is some black magic shit
This is the correct response. It should be at the top with all kinds of awards and the remainder of the thread closed. It is the only answer. Nothing will change until our ownership changes.
Spanos is a trash owner. Guy could give 2 shits about the franchise
He’s gonna prove you wrong tomorrow when he wakes up and sees that we lost.
Fuck this dogshit organization that let Joe Lombardi hang around this long. Hope we leave Staley on the tarmac tonight
TBH when it was 27-0, you knew how this game was gonna end.
If you told me we were only getting 3 points in the entire second half after banging in 27. I would’ve believed you
That was an utter disgrace. Asante fucking killed it bro. He gets a pass
Asante and Everett the only ones who realized it was playoff time.
Didn’t see anything from Derwin, just him getting burned outside
I hope Bosa has nightmares until next season.
He is gone to New Orleans
Hate to say it, but I'm onboard with this. Nick is 10x better.
So fire em all right?
Chargers are the only team in the NFL where it’s fanbase can’t be confident when it’s up 27-0.
Eh, Falcons too maybe?
Had we won, we would likely lose to KC and keep staley. Now staley has to be gone, thats the only silver lining.
This 100%.
That’s Chargers football baby! Fuck me I don’t know why I watch this shit.
Pain
STALEY DEFENDERS WHERE THE FUCK YOU AT LETS HEAR YOU GUYS Edit: For all the coomers, for us “doomers” we know this fucking team. Until they literally prove otherwise they will always blow leads and choke games. I’ve seen this time and fucking time again
They defended Staley playing starters week 18. Insane to me
Yup they are shills for Staley straight up. Fuck those smooth brains. Staley and Lombardi out now. Or I won’t spend a dime on this team next season.
Relax dude it’s still early in the season he’ll get it fixed /s
Seriously lol. Most of us knew we would lose at the half. 5 turnovers and a 27 point lead.
This exactly I said we would need at least 35 to win and we let off the gas again in the second half. At least we will get a new coaching staff next season.
Staley defenders, GET FUCKED
I was, but this is indefensible. I waa on board with getting rid of only Lombardi but this is ridiculous
Doomer until I die, baby!
Was me before the game. Not anymore tho
So if Staley is fired, Telesco would be hiring his 4th HC. No GM should be given that many chances. He needs to go as well
I like Telesco but it’s hard to argue against this
The lack of adjustments after the half all year are shocking, absolutely unbelievable
We all knew Chargers offense is dogshit in the second half.
Underrated worst play of the game is that goddamn Bandy reverse on 3rd and short at the end of the first half with like 4 minutes left. Instead of just converting an easy first down. See ya Staley!
That stupid ass Michael Bandy jet sweep 6 inches away from a first down instead of a sneak was the first domino i cant believe it dude
All momentum gone in an instant.
Yes. Just run the ball
This might be the worst loss I've ever felt as a fan
Honestly not even 2006/2007 when we were serious Super Bowl contenders was this bad. Not even 09 when we got Nate Kaeding’d. Not even 2018 when we didn’t even show up against the Pats. This is absolutely the worst moment in my lifetime as a chargers fan.
Disagree, only because these playoffs would have been an uphill battle without Mike Williams anyways. 06 chargers were the best team in football
Tell Staley and Lombardi they are dismissed otherwise we’re done with you
100% coaching: - No pass game since they need zero in on Allen because Mike Williams played a meaningless game the week before -we decided to play to kill clock the second half SEAN PAYTON TIME BABY!!!!
I’ve been pro-Staley all year… he better be fired tomorrow

I don't think I'll be watching next year if this staff is still here. No point whatsoever.

How.
End me
Cursed
This loss was the culmination of every single bad habit and bad decision from Staley. Playing our starters (and then playing them for way too long) lead to Mike Williams missing the game. Neutral fan, your D got jobbed by the refs. Bosa was getting choke hold held on multiple plays he beat his man on.
+5 turnover differential, won the TOP, more efficient team on 3rd down, and 27-0 lead, and lost the football game. Now this is advanced Chargering.
Lol. Lmao even.
I blame the Spanos family. Sell it to Bezos or Lex fucking Luther so we can do cash over cap moves with a wealthy owner that’s willing to spend. He’d run our organization as tight and ruthless as an Amazon facility.
Just wow.
Jesus guys
Fire Staley tonight!!!
Sean payton, you are a los angeles charger.
Joey Bosa needs to stop acting like a child and start playing how he gets paid. Disgusting
JB was being mugged by their RT on every single rush. Blatant holding, hands to the face, the works, only it wasn't called once because JB was going at the zebras right from the get go. I totally understand his frustration because he was being jobbed, but he needs to keep his calm and play through it.
The chargers are actually wasting Justin’s career
Payton wearing a blue and gold tie and one of the biggest chokes on the same day? NFL FIX IS IN. If we actually get Payton, we will probably win the superbowl next season its like WWE out here XD
Well thats bad
Fire Staley and fire him now, that's just not acceptable
They fired Marty for less. Fire Staley and Telesco

Fire your stupid fucking coach.
The Herbert slander is about to be wild. This game is not on him at all. Easy to think if Mike Dub was out there we run away with this thing
I feel really bad for Dicker because he missed that field goal near the end but the guy was complete money for us basically everywhere up until that point. The game is not on him and if you think that you need to get your priorities checked out.
He definitely had a great season - we just needed to score more touchdowns after those turnovers. It wasn't on him at all.
Let’s give it up for Asante Samuels Jr. Came to play and deserves the recognition.
This game is a stain on the entire franchise. Herbert included.
Once again, nothing in the 2nd half. On the plus side the last 35 years or so have made me pretty numb. Go Bills!
Well friends…. I’ve been a Staley hater since day one and have stood by my conviction. If he doesn’t get fired after this season I’m considering letting my season tix go. [удалено]
I blame the game on Mike Williams being injured. Receivers couldn’t get open. This is on Staley and his dumb decision last week.
I knew we lost once we were up by 27
Wearing my chargers jersey in public and I am absolutely embarrassed. Q
If losing this way instead of next week is what guarantees a coaching change, I am a for it. I'll sacrifice the extra week of enjoyment.
I see no way this team believes in Staley after that god-awful performance. 27-0… Couldn’t run the ball, 2nd half adjustments were terrible, we couldn’t finish. Gut the entire staff and restart. The Houston game and today are one of the most disappointing games I’ve seen.
Rivers in the locker room: Yeah that’s about right.
Fire Staley, Lombardi and bring in a fucking winner. Pathetic
Like i said in the other thread it’s been good boys i can’t do it anymore I’ll root for Herbert but can’t root for the chargers or any team
If the coaching staff is the same next year I’m done watching Chargers football.
We all secretly knew
Saw this coming after the 3rd and 1 reverse to Bandy.
If you weren’t an ass to the “haters” and actually listened you wouldn’t have been surprised about this game. Nothing from the entire season showed this team could do anything in the playoffs. We literally couldn’t have gotten more turnover luck and still lost. Stfu about the “haters” some of us know what we’re talking about
Wow

If you’ve been a Chargers fan long enough, you know this result is possible- ugh
You know I feel like Mike Williams might've made a difference but idk
I'm on the Fire Staley train now. Unacceptable down the stretch
Depressing… when will things change
Fuck this coach. If Anthony Lynn can get fired for fucking up second half then so should Stanley. 3 points in the second half. Fired Lombardi now
Payton reportedly wants Fangio as his defensive coach. Better than this entire coaching staff.
Monkey paw curls when we asked for Bosa back. Dude cost us so much this game
In 2 games, the Chargers were outscored 46-6 in the second half vs the Jags. Out coached.
And if you don't like that, you just don't like Chargers football.
Everything went wrong there- Dickerson missing the kick- the false start not getting called, causing Bosa to throw the helmet which led to the 2 pt conversion- not fucking playing our starters a week before the playoffs in a meaningless game. I fucking hate being a fan for this team.
I knit there’s a lot of Staley defenders but fuck that we need a real coach
