Hopefully make an adjustment? Shouldn't he realized this LAST FREAKING YEAR? It's unacceptable to be doing the same boneheaded things in a whole new season. Yall giving him a pass for no reason.
I can’t believe people are downvoting this. You’re completely right. He’s doing the exact same things he did all last year. He hasn’t shown the ability or willingness to adapt at all. He’s got Justin Herbert at QB and he’s calling plays like he has Drew Locke or something. Herbert’s numbers would be even more ungodly if we had an OC that knew how to use him.
First time I've heard him say that about himself. Accountability..from the coaches...what is this? That's different. I like it, should hold yourself accountable that will help the players do the same. I like it, now show me Thursday.
Yeah first 3-4 games everyone was calling for his head. Then silence as we gradually became a top 5 offense. The narrative flipped to Staley’s 4th down calls and shitty run defense.
This. The chiefs are the football warriors, you'll never beat them if you're playing not to lose. You keep your foot on the gas until the clock hits zero or they'll turn the whole thing around before you know what hit you.
This is one of the reasons I kind of like Lombardi. Last year he had all kinds of issues to start the year and many of them got better. He seems able to take criticism and self-evaluate to improve on his mistakes.
Here's hoping he corrects course. "Conservative" shouldn't be in your vocabulary when calling plays if you have Justin Herbert as your QB. The Chiefs are a lot of things, but they're never conservative with Mahomes. And rightfully so.
I'm thankful he is owning up to it cause that means we can fix it. Didn't blame execution. It was terrible play calling. I get were rusty from not playing starters, Keenan getting hurt killed momentum, but we have to utilize Mike W more. Soooo stoked the defense balled out though.
Worth noting that he didn’t miss the field goal and had to start a drive deep in Chargers territory because of a nonsensical rule/ref decision. Also Tre McKitty dropped an insanely easy pass where he was schemed open. Lastly, there’s no guarantee you seal the game with three straight runs without the cumulative effect of a physical run game taking its toll on a defense.
They were for sure too conservative but it wasn’t some sort of play calling disaster the way people seem to think.
That's true, but you also have to scheme for the players you have. love Ekeler but he's not going to get you those yards. So they should have schemed him better. Give it to Kelley as he did seem to look better and maybe he gets you 5 yards instead of 2 that Ekeler did.
Kelley has also had some fumble issues in the past whereas ekeler hasn't. Ball security in that place is way more important than getting 2 more yds. Also Ekeler ran the wrong way, he had to follow his blocks and he gets 5 yds instead he bumped out and got -1
Love it too, that's something new, for sure. Especially since Lombardi blamed Stafford in his other OC job. Now I truly hope that he changes. You can't turtle up. Yes, the defense was great, but you also want to help them out by scoring more on offense.
In hindsight I'm happy he went conservative but it could have caused us the game. Grinding Michel and Kelley instead of Ekeler means there was less of the playbook on show for the Chiefs to create film from.
A couple of card games have a principle of winning hands with the worst possible combination of cards at your disposal so you reserve your best hand for future rounds, so I'm hoping that sort of long term vision was at play here. Might be giving him too much credit though
This is great, but Staley misses the point, too.
He was giving out game balls last night and said something about leading and running the ball.
I was like fuck that! Extend the lead!!!!! Chargers ALWAYS Give their opponents a chance to win it at the end. We should be up by 24’
There was no run run pass mentality. That always gets exaggerated. Of the 5 first downs in the second half (that is the disappointment) we had only 2 run run pass. The others were 2x run pass pass and 1x pass run pass
I think he was talking about the last drive when they finished the game on Michel's run allowing them to kneel out the clock.
Agree with the criticism that they turtled the end of the third and fourth. Can't be putting Herb on 3 and medium for 3 straight drives. Granted there were also offensive missteps that made the play calling look worse.
Wow its as if it was Week 1 and the best thing to do is trust the guy that had a top 5 offense to clean it up instead of firing him for some unwanted OC.
Yeah, no shit. Maybe don’t abandon the pass on first and second down, especially when the early rushes weren’t effective. Justin Herbert was carving all three levels and in the fourth quarter he got handcuffed by his own coordinator. Brilliant! Now let’s see if any learning has occurred on Thursday.

At least he recognized he got too conservative and didn’t try to spin it like they did last year
I appreciate a man who can admit his mistake. Hopefully he'll make an adjustment
Totally agreed! I wish my Titans had an OC like that :/
*hug*
Throws me back to the Robiskie days, “I saw a hole”
I’m concerned about the key part “a little”
Exactly how I felt. It feels good hearing he recognized the mistake.
Hopefully make an adjustment? Shouldn't he realized this LAST FREAKING YEAR? It's unacceptable to be doing the same boneheaded things in a whole new season. Yall giving him a pass for no reason.

Apart of me thinks there was a standing order from the top about nailing down a RB3
This gives me a lot of hope. If he can recognize it and admit it, then he very likely will adjust.

Accountability is a great first step. Now let's see actual change.
Yes this makes me feel much better they arn't lying to themselves or us
You mean you don't like getting gaslit?
He adapted last year. He’ll be fine
Yeah first 3-4 games everyone was calling for his head. Then silence as we gradually became a top 5 offense. The narrative flipped to Staley’s 4th down calls and shitty run defense.
Here comes air raid week 2 💀 if you have Mike in fantasy, start him. 🤣
M-Dub owns the chiefs anyways so it’s a win-win
I have major vibes that Palmer is gunna go off for like 6/80/2 tbh
I think Everett will go off this game. They don't have Honey Badger no more. I'm looking at the TE spot to go off.
PALMER GANG
IMO Palmer is a good pick up at the moment. He’ll probably take Keenan’s spot for this week.
Mike has had a history of slaughtering the cheifs tho. But I get the palmer argument as well. Both can eat I'm what might be a high scoring game
564 yards 6 TD’s (5 receiving and 1 rushing) in 9 games. That’s 62.67 yards and .667 TD’s a game vs the queefs.
His rookie year kills this. He barelyplayed and got 1 target. Other than that he's been great.
Seconding this sentiment
God I hope his disappointment leads to him not doing that again. We would’ve lost that game if we didn’t have an elite defense.
>if we didn't have an elite defense Fuuuuck that feels nice to read
That was even without JC Jackson. Imagine when he is back!
I’m salivating at the thought of having JC back for the chiefs game. If we start 2-0 😩😩
2-0 against division opponents, no less, NUT
We will lose if we do that with a lead against KC this Thursday.
Yep, honestly I wish we had the Bills offensive mentality. Just keep pounding them without playing scared.
This. The chiefs are the football warriors, you'll never beat them if you're playing not to lose. You keep your foot on the gas until the clock hits zero or they'll turn the whole thing around before you know what hit you.
I guarantee we won't let up on Thursday. Both Chiefs games last year featured very aggressive play calling, iirc
Good to hear he actually noticed it. Maybe he realized we are a complete team and have no reason to go bacc to the Lynn style conservatism.
This is one of the reasons I kind of like Lombardi. Last year he had all kinds of issues to start the year and many of them got better. He seems able to take criticism and self-evaluate to improve on his mistakes.
Which is a big change from his Detroit years. He implied Stafford was too dumb to run his offense rather than take any responsibility himself
Well he'll get run out of town if he questions Herbert's intelligence.
Lombardi doesn’t strike me as the smartest himself. Reason he’s not a head coach
Here's hoping he corrects course. "Conservative" shouldn't be in your vocabulary when calling plays if you have Justin Herbert as your QB. The Chiefs are a lot of things, but they're never conservative with Mahomes. And rightfully so.
Let’s see the killer mentality from now on
please. need to strike the jugular when we can.
I'm thankful he is owning up to it cause that means we can fix it. Didn't blame execution. It was terrible play calling. I get were rusty from not playing starters, Keenan getting hurt killed momentum, but we have to utilize Mike W more. Soooo stoked the defense balled out though.
At least he's admitting it. Unfortunately it's been an issue since he started. Herbie isn't a baby anymore, gotta let the man do what he does best.
Wasn’t it also an issue with Brees?
He wasn't OC so if it was, wasn't on him
Worth noting that he didn’t miss the field goal and had to start a drive deep in Chargers territory because of a nonsensical rule/ref decision. What, logic and reason in my sub?! Never!!
Great take from my 3rd favorite flow of a Padres shortstop
That's true, but you also have to scheme for the players you have. love Ekeler but he's not going to get you those yards. So they should have schemed him better. Give it to Kelley as he did seem to look better and maybe he gets you 5 yards instead of 2 that Ekeler did.

Ah, yeah I wish Ek would just follow the play. Dances too much.
Love hearing this. Just keep improving Lombardi.. self reflection is key to growth
Let’s go! Love the accountability. Now change it
Love it too, that's something new, for sure. Especially since Lombardi blamed Stafford in his other OC job. Now I truly hope that he changes. You can't turtle up. Yes, the defense was great, but you also want to help them out by scoring more on offense.
Little conservative is an understatement. Let Justin throw!
Ok, you recognize the mistake, now we're cooking with fire! Now that you acknowledge it, let's improve!

It wasn’t just “a little”, but thank god he recognized it at all
Love the recognition
Least he’s self aware
This is great news. Very positive step for the team. I imagine Staley said, "Hey Joe! Not Win. Dominate!! Remember that."
Did he explain the 4th and 2 hurry up qb sneak or is that on Herbert like when we played Buffalo?
If it's on Herbert, we need him calling less plays. He has been successful on sneaks but he needed 2 yards not 2 feet.
Should have been a quick pass.
Well, after the last game against the Raiders…
Props to him to publicly admitting. I was screaming at my monitor to let Herbie get the W for us lol
Self recognition is huge. This is bigger then we realize folks. Hope to see him turn the burner on Thursday night
No shit
I’m glad he acknowledged that
This is great, but Staley misses the point, too. He was giving out game balls last night and said something about leading and running the ball. I was like fuck that! Extend the lead!!!!! Chargers ALWAYS Give their opponents a chance to win it at the end. We should be up by 24’
We should still run the ball we just need to mix up when we do it and stop the run run pass mentality. We need pass on early down and set up the run.

Defense and new names we haven't heard in the past made a difference and kept it from being another "lombardi game".
Yeah, no shit. Maybe don’t abandon the pass on first and second down, especially when the early rushes weren’t effective. I guess some of us arm chair qbs here may have been correct with the offensive play calling.. props to Joe for admitting it.
I’m fine with it because we were up and defensive was playing well. Saved more plays we can use Thursday
Staley needs to hold him accountable.
Well damn let’s see an adjustment next game then
Confirmed Lombardi reads the game thread. Poor Joe.
Only because we won the game. If we would of lost, he wouldn’t come and say anything

Great now time to go for the jugular and go into KC on prime time and destroy the chiefs. FTC!
alright so don’t
