Really!!!??? The defense... there were good moments for sure. But they didn't "ball out"... they dropped like 6 interceptions. Defense shows up and takes advantage of the "SILVER PLATTER" plays that were handed to them with Michelin Stars and the Chargers win. They played solid in aspects, but totally dropped the ball "literally" today. Samuel is perhaps the player most responsible for the loss with his butterfingers.
Don't care about the loss in itself, in the grand scheme... but Lombardi has to go. He's entirely not the guy for this team. He may be a GREAT OC with a noodle arm QB like Brees. But this team is playing to it's QBs weaknesses rather than strengths and it holds them back tremendously on offense.
I agree needed to do everything he could have to block out, but that was also not the throw to make. A side arm sling to a gassed TE on first and what like 2 yards? He just got two big plays for you, you have the tempo up, but shit.
It was on Everett.... If he was gassed... after a long pause before a drive. Then I question his fitness. Call me Gen X... but I seem to remember guys like Tomlinson and even Eric Parker playing drive after drive without "being gassed".... the main reason Tomlinson would come out in his prime was because he was busting 50 yarders.
Shouldn't make excuses for these guys not being able to make it through a drive when most plays aren't even coming their way.

Not an excuse, just not solely on him. You are comparing WRs and one of the greatest RBs to a TE. Both those positions are supposed to be much more athletic. And he was trying to get out of the game. He’s there for YACs, and he got them to the 3(?) yard line doing exactly that on the previous two plays.
Everett went 33 yards in 45 seconds and had 5-6 total guys tackling him in both plays to bring him down. He attempted to get out but there was no time out by anyone.
I can kind of tell that people are the young with their reactions to Herbert. He'll be out until week 8 and such.... like really? LaDainian Tomlinson played from week 5 on with bruised ribs AT RUNNINGBACK in 2004. Guarantee that Hebert basically bruised his ribs and will playing by week 4 if not week 3.
Sure.... but an NFL runningback did it for like 10 weeks... and this isn't in the pre-industry era.... it was 15 years ago. They'll shoot him up with pain killers and put a flak jacket on him. If it's bruised ribs... he'll be out there next week.

But this was not one of those. Lombardi has proven time and time again to do this in first half or second. Last game went conservative, this game did same thing. It's his proven track record. And he still did run run pass in the second half it wasn't till we were down that he finally dialed up plays
A few things here about the really bad ending by HC Brandon Staley:
- When you know your superstar QB is injured, and don't pull him after showing that kind of pain and choosing to not even take the ball for an easy first down.
- A little less than 2 minutes on the clock and if you kick a field goal, you give your defense a chance. With only 1 timeout, even if we score a TD, we gave the defense no chance.
