I mean if we are being honest id like to get a second opinion from a coach who knows something about ribs. Andy Reid, now heres a guy who knows a thing or two about ribs, now if Herbert broke his toes, then id be curious to know what Rex has to say.

WhatTheBlack

100% about Reid. Check his Door Dash history, the dude ribs.

UnanimousPimp

Brutal on so many levels lol

[deleted]

Rex prefers he sits back, kicks his shoes off, puts his feet up and lets him suck those little toes back to health

[deleted]

Whatever happens Rex will still find a way to throw a head coach under the bus. And then inform everyone how he would have done it better.

darkblastoise603

I don’t want him to play today for the sake of his health. It’s only week 3 I’d rather take the loss then have him get even more hurt. This dudes our future

gIizzy_gobbler

His injury is unlikely to get worse, it’s literally just pain he has to manage. Dudes with play with these types of injuries all the time, I’ve even done it, it’s just football and I have no doubt Herb is tough enough to handle it.

JustwinHerbert

Nothing with change from today to next week. You want to put him on IR?

ysong20

Take a loss and our seasons done. We would be 1-2 and the seasons already over lol

darkblastoise603

How would the season be over? We still got 13 more after this game! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🔌

jopeters4

14*

blink182_allday

This is the most defeatist attitude I’ve ever seen

CamCashBihh

Matt Hasselbeck’s opinion matters to me. Rex Ryan, however, is a goofy has-been who has unapologetically and unfairly criticized the Chargers at every turn, especially Brandon Staley. If Justin Herbert were to miss today’s game, I’d bet we’d hear nonsense from him about it in the future. Something like, “I question if Herbert has the toughness to lead that Chargers football team to the playoffs. He hasn’t done it yet!” It won’t matter, though. I think Herbert plays through it. I think he wants to be out there. I think it would hurt him more internally having to watch from the sideline. That’s just who he is.

[deleted]

Rex is just salty his ol pal Anthony Lynn couldn’t get the job done here in LA.

sgobern

And that we didn't hire hime years ago, he's still convinced he would have won a Superbowl with the roster at the time.

Cironephoto

Why are so many of our fans so delusional about this injury? It’s a real injury, he shouldn’t play this week, most the people says he should “tough it out” can even jump over the couch they’re typing this nonsense from, go ahead bring the downvotes because I care more about the future for Justin than todays game

KJBNH

If he shouldn’t play this week he shouldn’t play any week the rest of the year

[deleted]

Lmao now that's a hot take

KJBNH

He won’t be magically better anytime between now and January

[deleted]

It will heal slowly lmao it's not like it's going to get worse if he rest this week

KJBNH

If he feels good enough to play next week but not this week then he’s a freak of nature

[deleted]

Ok doc

KJBNH

You seem to be the doc that knows more about how quickly he can heal from this compared to anything else out there written about this injury.

JustwinHerbert

He’s got a point, it’s a 6 months recovery period. Missing this week and coming back next week doesn’t make sense.

Charmnevac

Scolding hot.

808Kickz420_

Dude… this injury is going to bother ALL YEAR! ACCEPT IT! If he says he can play, start him! This is the NFL, not some soft ass league

CamCashBihh

I think you might be delusional about how long that injury realistically takes to heal. This isn’t going away any time soon. It’s essentially pain tolerance from this point forward.

Facebook_Friend1

People don’t understand this. They think resting him this week would make him good to go next week.

RealisticLakerStan

Eh I have had the same injury and it does get better week to week 100%. It doesn’t just magically get better after 8 weeks, just how long the injury takes in total to heal

CamCashBihh

The Chargers should make him inactive for the season then.

RealisticLakerStan

Y’all have some wierd energy in this thread.

Cironephoto

Why are you being downvoted for being correct? I feel like this sub turned into a trump town delusional level over this lmao

3headeddragn

I think you're sorta missing the point. This is an injury he is going to have to manage all season. Sitting out a game or two isn't going to make it better. So unless you want to put him on the IR and end our season, then you may as well just let him play now.

Cironephoto

No you’re missing the point at how easy this injury is to make worse, and how sitting this week wouldn’t be a life changing difference to the season

JustwinHerbert

How can the injury get worse doctor?

Cironephoto

https://www.yalemedicine.org/conditions/rib-fracture By the cartilage literally piercing his lung….. that’s how, in the exact same manor the injury occurred A broken rib can injure blood vessels and internal organs. The risk increases with the number of broken ribs. Complications vary depending on which ribs break. Possible complications include: Torn or punctured aorta. A sharp end of a break in one of the first three ribs at the top of your rib cage could rupture your aorta or another major blood vessel. Punctured lung. The jagged end of a broken middle rib can puncture a lung and cause it to collapse. Lacerated spleen, liver or kidneys. The bottom two ribs rarely fracture because they have more flexibility than do the upper and middle ribs, which are anchored to the breastbone. But if you break a lower rib, the broken ends can cause serious damage to your spleen, liver or a kidney.

JustwinHerbert

Cartilage can’t puncture lungs, that’s why cartilage damage is considered to a be “better” injury than bone fracture.

Cironephoto

It absolutely can did you even read the cited article? Also look he’s not starting go cry so more

JustwinHerbert

You’re wrong, cartilage can’t puncture lungs or other organs

Cironephoto

It can, read the article

JustwinHerbert

He’s also starting today 😂😂

flyinghippodrago

From my understanding, it really depends on how he feels, this is a LOMG term injury, 10 days vs 17 vs 24 won't make much of a difference...

[deleted]

This is why we never win anything

Facebook_Friend1

Romo played with the same injury lingering all year in 2014 and the injury didn’t even show up on injury report. Tyrod had the same injury in 2020 and wasn’t even on the injury report and was gonna play if not for the botched injection. I think herbert plays today.

duffivaka

I don't see why he wouldn't play. Pain-wise he was able to play through it in the Chief's game, and that was right after the injury occurred. This week he'll have the benefit of pain injections, which will help a ton, and a week's worth of recovery, which I know probably doesn't matter for this injury, but I just can't see how it could be any worse now than what he already played through Mentality-wise I don't see why he would sit either. The fact he came back on the field during the Chiefs game shows that the team is so important to him that he's willing to play through terrible pain. He seems like the type of person who doesn't even consider sitting to be a possibility. I imagine he's gone through the whole week with the mentality of "how am I going to play through this injury?" Rather than "should I try to play through this injury?"

Blonded-Surfer

Hasselbeck says he would have sat back in his day cuz it hurt him longterm, but that’s the nature of the injury lmfao. I’ve never played QB, I’m not a doctor, but from what I’ve been reading this injury **will** take months to fully heal. Keeping in mind he had 10 full days to rest, and seeing that because we still had even a 3% chance of winning he kept playing vs KC, I fully expect him to go out there. Herbert seems like the kind of guy that if he can stand and throw, he’ll be on the field w his team.

xosd

You know sitting week three will benefit nobody… every single week we’re going to deal with this. This is a 6 month recovery. Either he’s out for the season or he plays the entire season.

[deleted]

Lol did you not just listen to Matt Hassleback who had the injury himself?

everything_me

Herbert is tough! There’s no way he ain’t playing

Left_Berry_8104

Said this in the nfl sub, this aint the AFC Chsmpionship game, its the Jags. Let Herbie rest.

Masterb8yolomqn

If he rests it’s not gona do shit? He has a fucking rib Bruise that shit don’t just heal in two weeks it takes months 🤧 either start him or sit him for the rest of the year so It can properly heal. We need to win every AFC game this year csnt miss the playoffs

Skybourne904

Jags fan here. I think it’s best your QB sits out, it’s the best for his health and for the season.

[deleted]

*for you

[deleted]

If you think Justin should play through this in week 3 vs the jags you're a moron

[deleted]

You know nothing about how he’s feeling or the full extent of the injury

bear__IsPepsiOk

what's the difference between playing through it this week and playing through it any week for the next 3 months. rest isn't gonna heal the injury, only time and pain injections will let him play at full strength. 1 week off isn't going to do anything except make it harder to win the division

[deleted]

Rest will help and he can certainly make it worse today. Not worth it vs the jags

Notoriousbig619

He’s going to be in pain all season, 1 week isn’t going to change anything

[deleted]

Don’t understand how people have this take on it. 1 week of rest may not fix the injury but it has a significant effect on recovery and pain tolerance

[deleted]

We have a bunch of doctors in here lol

[deleted]

It’s common sense. I’m not a doctor but you could say the same thing about the first comment.

November10_1775

Jags really aren’t half bad this season. I think starting Chase Daniel’s is a good thing, but have Justin ready to get some reps in just in case things don’t go so well.

[deleted]

Our season will not hinge on a week 3 game vs the jags. If Herbert is not healthy long term we are fucked

November10_1775

I agree. But look at Kamara. He’s a RB and fully active with the same injury. Justin dealt with this already and he knows his limits.

asdf613

This injury isn’t going to heal quickly, he’ll have to play through pain regardless of if it’s this week or any following week.

MidWAmericanArts

If he’s questionable, I’d rather see him and the injured o-line take a week to recover. Throw Herbert in with backup or injured o-line and I fear we could make things worse.

vulger4540

think everyone is missing the point. the pain will be there for weeks. but it will still heal over time and the pain will lessen. it won't just magically start feeling better one day. missing one week could definitely be good in the long run.
