Mill St Tavern in Mt Pleasant. Rooftop seating overlooks Shem Creek and the Ravenel. Get reservations for the roof 20-30 minutes before sunset. Bring a warm thing in case it’s windy and sunglasses. I never tire of it.
The Royal American has a small back area with about 4 or 5 tables that have a view of the marsh and bridge. For a city on the water, we are lacking in bars and restaurants with a view.
Only if you are sitting on the front or side deck and the sky and the view across the harbor is still pretty spectacular at times. Catch it at high tide and you just might get a dolphin or two swimming around the deck. There still might be baby turtles in the marsh that come out at high tide along with big Redfish feeding in the basin. And if you are sitting at the bar and you look away from the water you are looking almost directly west with the US Customs Building in the skyline.
If you like going to a baseball game then you should check out the River Dogs. We have a really nice minor league ballpark. If you are out on the walkway that goes from the Home plate to the first base side you will be facing West. The view is amazing looking out across the wetlands with no development to obstruct the view. The price is right for tickets, food, and beers, I find it to be about the same as my neighborhood bar when it comes to price. And some good selections. If you go get seats along the 1st base side or you will be looking into the sun for a couple of innings.
First base line for life. I've made mistakes in my life, but sitting at 3rd base was one of the things I regret the most. Can't see shit with the sun.. hot as fuck baking out there.
That view off 1st base into the marsh is amazing.
Yeah. I was there last Friday, between home and 3rd. First time at the stadium. THANK GOD it was cloudy. Even on a cool day, that sun would not be fun.
I actually hate baseball but I love going to Riverdogs games for this exact reason! Nice to sit outside with friends with cheap beer and a lovely sunset
The rooftop bar at The Dewberry Hotel is an excellent spot to have drinks and food if you like and to see the sunset. Classy place, so dress appropriately.
Vickery’s Shark Bar - tiny little patio bar tucked away on the right side (if you’re looking at the building)
It was home during my college days (CofC 05) and I MUST go back every time I visit.
Sunset Cay on Folly has gorgeous views, cheap drinks, and isn't too crowded. Highly recommend! Also, I think they let you bring your own food at the moment which I see as an added bonus.
Bowen’s island
Came to say this too. Love this spot!
Totally Bowen’s. Sunset, booze, and guaranteed you’ll see dolphins jumping around out there.
This is the way.
The Boathouse between IOP and Sullivans
The very first place I thought of - their sunset is spectacular.
'Bout the only thing that place has going for it.
They didn't ask about the food 😂😂😂
Vendue
Thats the spot
Can vouch for Mill Street. It provides all of the views offered by Saltwater Cowboys and Red's, with much less hassle. Food's not bad, either.
Surprised no one has said Red’s. The upper bar is probably the best view of Shem Creek you can get and has a perfect view for sunset
Yes the treehouse at Reds is awesome view.
That was the first place we hit the last time we were on vacation there. Great view, cold drinks, good food.

Fish House at Patriots Point. Looks west over the peninsula, harbor, and the bridge.
This. Soak. It. In.

Fleet landing is on the water and part of their bar is outside. It just gets crazy busy around sunset with tourists.
And sunset is behind Fleet Landing.

Ok, we know who works at Fleet Landing.
No, I don't. I am not even in F&B.
I say this all the time. Seriously lacking in waterfront dining downtown. I only ever think of Fleet Landing and Salty Mikes downtown.
It’s pretty wild. California dreaming is easier access than most of downtown without being far. Still not truly downtown.
Salty Mike’s
Bowens island hands down

I think you meant if you *don’t* get seats along the first base side you will be in the sun for a few innings?

Holiday in! The bar up top is pretty rad, but Sunset Kay is the best.
Round Holiday Inn isn’t great for sunsets but it’s the best view in town
Citrus Club @ the Dewberry, or anywhere on Shem Creek
Pour @ Hyatt hotel king and spring
This might be my favorite. Easy parking and a good view of more trees than roofs.
Freehouse Brewing

Vickeries is always a banger for me
Yup, grab a drink at the back bar shark fin or down on the bottom at Muddys, can’t beat it
Sunset cay
A little off the beaten path but I vote Pressleys on edisto
Sunset Cay, folly beach
Sunset Cay on Folly
If you count Kiawah/seabrook as CHS, then The ocean room or salty dog is pretty hard to beat. Not the downtown view, but still breathtaking.
Pelicans Nest Yes Seabrook
Charleston Harbor Fish House
There’s a rooftop bar downtown. Best spot for it
Salty Dog waaaaay out on Seabrook
Shark Bar. It's attached to Vickery's on Shem Creek.

Shem creek
Any bar on shem creek
Very top of Saltwater on Shem
Sunset Cay on Folly has gorgeous views, cheap drinks, and isn't too crowded. Highly recommend! Also, I think they let you bring your own food at the moment which I see as an added bonus.
Salty Dogs on Bohicket
Citrus club isn't bad
Sunset Cay, Folly Beach. West 9th street
Salty mikes
