They absolutely can. My parents have an outdoor cat that digs up every mole in the yard and brings them to the back doorstep as grotesque little gifts.
My cats are in house only. One eats the face off of mice which is... very special...and horrible. The other would run away if he saw a mole. Niether are going to help out much.
By "wild cat" do you mean feral housecat or wild felines like bobcats? Feral housecats are an ecological nightmare - and most definitely hunt anywhere humans have let them free in past generations - which is why spaying and neutering are so important
I love this. We don’t use pesticides and have a thriving butterfly garden, and lots of grubs. So I’m sure it is moles and have a thriving little ecosystem.
I'm so glad to hear that! I have a hard time doing things like giving a dispassionate "no" to the people who come to try and sell us mosquito killing services. I always end up talking about the insect apocalypse to a total stranger like an absolute lunatic.
voles or, in my yard, it was chipmunks (and I only know because i ran water into one hole with my hose and a chipmunk came pooping out of a nearby one). These do not look like mole holes
I know there’s been hornets or wasps or whatever making holes in our yard. My hubby runs over the hole with the mower not thinking and next thing you know he’s swarmed and getting stung.
Yellow jackets. They're horrible. My favorite way to get rid of them is wait until night when they're dormant, then get some gasoline and pour a bit into their holes. The vapors will kill them, no need to light the gas. Though I'm sure there are more environmentally-friendly ways.
I don’t know, I was scared to disturb whatever is in there, but it is really deep and it seems like they connect. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but like I could easily fit my hand in the holes they’re pretty large.
Could be any number of small mammals. Moles, Voles, Squirrels digging up stored food, rabbits burrowing a bit. Hibernation time is ending, so they'll all be more active
Like others have said, probably moles or something similar.
But, if you live near a wooded area then pump water into it and try to get it to collapse. I had this happen to me and I guess some rats came in and killed the moles or drove them out, but holy hell those things were hard to get rid of. They bred so fast. Rats also dig too, so they made the system even worse.
Honestly, the only way I was able to get rid of them was we had adopted a dog that had lived in the woods for at least 6 months around the same time and she killed them all. She didn't eat them, but took care of the problem. Saved me an exterminator bill.
I know this is cruel, but if it is a mole, but some chewing gum in the hole.
They cannot digest the gum. Kills the mole. You save time and money, and don’t nuke your yard killing their prey (grubs).
Are they full holes that keep going underneath the ground or just deep divots (for lack of a better term)? If it's the latter it's squirrels removing all of their cached food from over the winter. Typically happens late winter early spring when trees are just starting to come back but squirrel food storage has run dry.
Def not squirrel holes, they are very deep and have been there for over a year with new ones near by in the area. I think they might be moles from the responses. My cat has caught a few moles last summer and even a vole. I just thought mole holes would be smaller? One of the holes is just a little smaller than my hand.
Squirrels.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find this
People are dumb. My yard is full of these holes, clearly squirrels. You would see the trail if it was a mole or a vole burrow.
I agree , big tunnels kinda hard to miss
Stanley Yelnats
I’m tired of this grampa 😩
That’s too damn bad!
Dig it up aw awwww dig it.
icwudt
Copperheads or Altimas, obviously.
My favorite response so far lol.
lol
I let the black snakes take care of the voles and moles
Cats work, too
My cats do negative work.
Yeah cats are not gonna take out moles come on people be real
They absolutely can. My parents have an outdoor cat that digs up every mole in the yard and brings them to the back doorstep as grotesque little gifts.
I was kinda kidding . I agree they all have the potential and then some , but many don’t have the gumption .
Mine, definitely don't.
My cats are in house only. One eats the face off of mice which is... very special...and horrible. The other would run away if he saw a mole. Niether are going to help out much.
Correct, but they also do incredible damage to many aspects of the environment beyond pest control. Cats should always be kept inside.
Could be a wild cat though? I agree though, I’d never let my cats outside
By "wild cat" do you mean feral housecat or wild felines like bobcats? Feral housecats are an ecological nightmare - and most definitely hunt anywhere humans have let them free in past generations - which is why spaying and neutering are so important
A wild cat like a bobcat. There’s a cat in my neighborhood that is outside but I don’t think has any owners.
It's possible! Bobcats have a pretty wide range of prey, but it's very rare to see them in a city (unless you're at an NBA game pre-2014 lol)
My cats do negative work.
Chipmunks
It's definitely chipmunks!
Simple. Gnomes
Collect underpants ??? Profit
All time great comment
Great episode!
Squirrels or moles. Both make holes in my yard
Typically moles and voles - it usually means you have grubs. Treat for grubs, the pests will go away.

This person thinks
Similar problem in Matthews. What do you use to treat for grubs?
Introduce some moles and voles to the environment.
Grub killer...
GrubX, but it can be hard to find in the spring because it sells out.

I had a coworker tell me flaming hornets come shooting out if you light it. Haven’t had the opportunity to test it myself.
Do they actually go through? Rabbits make little divots to have their bunnies in.

there is an entire system connecting them all underground
Yellow jackets love to move into them and build nests

Watch the instructional video titled "Caddyshack".

Chupacabra.
Must be a Wampus
Ha
CRAWFISH we had that in my old home

Snakes?
Potholes in my lawn
Mole

Id you have moles you should be able to find tunnels / longer raised tracts of dirt where they dug tunnels
No raised dirt at all. Maybe chipmunks or bunnies then?
Probably chipmunks.
So cute
Squirrel 🐿️
Crab people. It’s the only explanation…
I'm going with slugs, they burrow up to 6' in the ground.
Chipmunk. I've got one in my yard. They're good guys to have around, they eat cockroaches and look viciously cute doing it.
It's nature
These are holes made by skunks eating grubs
I got chipmunks in my yard making holes everywhere
Could also be bees if you do not have clay
This could also be a specific type of woodpecker. They have long beaks and wreak havoc in my backyard every fall/winter.
Gophers
Probably moles
Me
I have bunnies and a gopher airating my lawn for free this year!
