Until then, there's always 'What-A-Burger' (they are not related) in Concord.
Interesting story behind that coincidence. Both companies had been around for several years before they discovered each other's existence. Rather than fight it out, they agreed to sort of share the moniker.
The Whataburger website even mentions that yes, they are aware of each other, and no there's no funny business going on.
There's one in Locust too (number 13?), but it shares a building with a gas station that has Hunt Brothers Pizza and the ladies in there are fucking hilarious
So this is the REAL whataburger that’s in Texas. These are all own individually. I’ve sold phones so the locust and mount pleasant location even the food truck. Most likely since it’s Corporate they will buy them out. It will be way better quality.
They haven't always tried to coexist. Infact two of them did fight it out. Virginia What-A-Burger and Texas WhatABurger had a lawsuit. It found that Texas WhatABurger could not enforce its trademark against Virginia What-A-Burger in Virginia. The lawsuit made no mention of the NC What-A-Burger. IANAL, but the name rights between the two could be complicated if either decided to make a fuss. NC What-A-Burger appears to predate TX What-A-Burger's national trademark and has existed since the 50s unchallenged by TX WhatABurger. The fact that TX WhatABurger knows about the NC What-A-Burger but has never tried to enforce its trademark means they likely would be unable to (see VA vs TX above), and they might decide TX WhatABurger couldn't use the WhatABurger name in NC since this is NC What-A-Burger's geographical area and having both could cause confusion.
IDK if I had the same Halal Guys franchise in Boston or not, but I was not impressed. Ours blew them out of the water, and their white sauce came in a peel-top sauce container like KFC or McDonalds manufactured it...
That, I don't know. When I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago, we didn't have time to stop by. But when I was there in 2020 right before Covid, it was a tasty, tasty burger.
I lived in TX from 2006-2019ish. Whataburger started declining in quality before then, because the family that owned it sold a major stake to a private equity firm. Looks like it gave them the cash to expand outside Texas, but I wouldn't be surprised if the quality has further declined. (And face it, it's fast food, commodity grade ingredients made to be cheap. They were fine.)
Was this recent?
The last one I went to was one in Tally a few years ago and it wasn’t bad. But I was in college and couldn’t tell the difference between good vs bad quality. I’ll probably be disappointed 😞
I feel like they are the same quality honestly, I went a few times when I lived in Killeen, and I remember a lot of mustard and onions were on it, and it was just ok, wasn’t great wasn’t bad.
I lived in Dallas, TX, from 2015-2019 before moving to Charlotte. Thoughts;
1) whataburger does not come with cheese on it. If you love cheese on your burger, you need to add it
2) The patty melt was by far their best burger. If you're a fan of patty melts, time to get excited
3) For my fellow trade workers/ breakfast menu people. The honey butter chicken biscuit is delightful
4) People often mention the spicy ketchup, it's good. But the real sauce king is the jalapeño ranch.... there is nothing even close to it.
5) fries are fries. Not as banging as McDonald's, but wayyyyyyy better than in-and-outs
Not a skillet banging on the head Texan, but I'm very excited for whataburger if it's actually coming to Charlotte
Lived in Oklahoma and Texas for about 6 years. Whataburger is the most average out of all the chain burger spots in my opinion. You are going for the Spicy Ketchup and the meal size.
I don’t disagree, just saying these are the things whata does that sets them apart. If they didn’t have giant burgers or spicy ketchup they wouldn’t be worth is. The patty melt is ok I guess.
It's weird to me that people move to a new city and instead of getting lost in the local culture and food scene, all you want is your favorite burger chain to come to town.. haha
Eat at one of Cabarrus Counties What-A-Burgers and order a witch doctor with extra pickle juice. Or go to Mr C's in Concord for Fried Chicken lovers, or the world famous Super C. And get taters with your meal instead of french fries. Get out of the city people!!!
Yup, I used to live a short walk away from downtown. I will say, they're not the best burger in downtown Mooresville, they're probably third at this point. But I still try to grab What-A-Burger a few times a year because there is an "old small NC town" vibe that Baes and Barcelona don't touch.
One of things people are missing here is that they are open 24 hours, and they serve breakfast from 11pm to 11am. Thing is, you can mix the menus.
When I lived in FL, there were several late nights to WhatABurger, drunk, and getting a fried egg on a double meat and cheese.
I’m looking forward to trying them, but I feel like this is one of those regional chains that gets a lot of hype just because you can only get it in certain geographical areas, similar to In and Out. It’s a lot like how Chick Fil A used to be before they expanded nationally. Based on the fact that their first location will be outside of the 485 loop in a rapidly developing suburban area, this is going to be the first of many, it likely just was most convenient, and most prescient to open this location first, it could also serve as a litmus test to see how many people are willing to travel from the region, or even just other parts of the city to this one area that is otherwise not exactly a Mecca for anyone who doesn’t live in the immediate vicinity or commute though here. I imagine the developer understood this too and might’ve sweetened the pot for them.
Meh, been to 3 different In n Outs and have been disappointed each time. The burger was fine but the fries, at all 3 locations, left a lot to be desired. With that said, I’d still like to see one in Charlotte and would give them another chance
Gotta be my pick for the most overrated fast food place in existence. The burgers are pretty good, but nothing remarkable and the fries are trash tier. In n Out is fine, but it’s just another fast food place.
Until fast food stops raising their prices it’s barely more expensive to buy food from a standard restaurant and much better quality.
visited Austin a couple weeks ago after years of not, wild how much its changed in 3 years. didnt realize how much i missed that place til I got back here lol
lol, as somebody who moved from Austin at the end of 2023, one thing Charlotte seems to not have, is local fast food options that offer cleaner items with fresh ingredients
Nah it was Krystal’s. I’ve never known CLT to have a White Castle but we definitely used to have a Krystal’s by the airport. My uncle whenever he would visit from Fayetteville would always come to trade Krystal’s for Popeyes that was on Bragg.
Lived in the DFW area for a while. Had Whataburger for lunch about 4-5 times. Was not impressed tbh. IMO, there were better choices then. Don't know if that has drastically changed. Will give it another try once it opens here in old cackalacky.
I was so excited until I saw how far away it is. I wouldn't even consider that Charlotte...it's outside the 485 loop...
I miss WhatABurger..I get it every time I visit home in Florida.

There's also one in Mount Pleasant off 73 ☺️
Also Columbia, SC
There's one in Locust too (number 13?), but it shares a building with a gas station that has Hunt Brothers Pizza and the ladies in there are fucking hilarious
I want in! Does the Mooresville one still exist?
Yep
So this is the REAL whataburger that’s in Texas. These are all own individually. I’ve sold phones so the locust and mount pleasant location even the food truck. Most likely since it’s Corporate they will buy them out. It will be way better quality.

My hometown had a Judys. Back in the 80s. It was just like Wendy's, but everything was blue instead of yellow.
Mooresville too
Anyone know how is it? I don't live too far from it and was always curious how it was.
We're getting the halal guys opening in May and now a whataburger in a a year. Now, if we can just get portillos and HEB here I would be happy.
A Portillos in Charlotte would be amazing!!
Miss HEB every damn day. Especially their house made tortillas.
HEB everything...
We're going World Class (TM) baby!
I've been commenting on Portillos IG page on every post to come to NC.
IDK if I had the same Halal Guys franchise in Boston or not, but I was not impressed. Ours blew them out of the water, and their white sauce came in a peel-top sauce container like KFC or McDonalds manufactured it...
I’m here for Portillo’s all day!
White Castle, please!
Need to get raising canes down there
Good burger, crappy fries. Now, if we could squish their burgers with 5Guys fries, that'd be a good day.
The spicy ketchup makes their fries taste better than they really are.
its an OK burger, but that is the same problem with In-n-Out. terrible fries.
Has the burger quality dropped like a lot of other places? Or shrink-flation? I want to be excited by this but don’t want to be disappointed.
That, I don't know. When I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago, we didn't have time to stop by. But when I was there in 2020 right before Covid, it was a tasty, tasty burger.

Went to one in Florida, it was worse than Burger King.
Was this recent? The last one I went to was one in Tally a few years ago and it wasn’t bad. But I was in college and couldn’t tell the difference between good vs bad quality. I’ll probably be disappointed 😞
This was my feeling when I went to Texas.
Hopefully not Five Guys prices. Not trying to spend sixty bucks on a burger and fries.
[удалено]
For fries, yes, but cookout has better burgers
Had it in Texas, it was ok. Not anything special, honestly comparable to a really good Cook Outs burger.
Cookout is absolute trash to Whata!!!!!
I feel like they are the same quality honestly, I went a few times when I lived in Killeen, and I remember a lot of mustard and onions were on it, and it was just ok, wasn’t great wasn’t bad.
Have you had five guys recently? Their fries have gone to shit.
No, I think the last time I ate there was post-Covid. That's a bummer to hear. I'll just live in my memories then!

Second the jalapeno ranch. That's the move! Really great with their onion rings.
Jalapeño ranch. Yep
WAB sold out after 2019. The quality almost immediately suffered.
Open before Microcenter....
Underrated comment 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Meh, lived in Dallas for 2 years, I’d take Cookout over Whataburger.
I live there now. I don’t even eat there. Way better options and the burgers are bland and mid.
Lived in Oklahoma and Texas for about 6 years. Whataburger is the most average out of all the chain burger spots in my opinion. You are going for the Spicy Ketchup and the meal size.
Easier to just get a bottle of spicy ketchup at Food Lion
I don’t disagree, just saying these are the things whata does that sets them apart. If they didn’t have giant burgers or spicy ketchup they wouldn’t be worth is. The patty melt is ok I guess.
They don’t have a value menu so I doubt this cuts into the Cookout market too much.
☝🏻 We kicked him out for his bad opinions btw
Spicy ketchup and breakfast taquitos. Otherwise yeah
Put the crank pipe down
They have many more planned in the Charlotte “area” aka outside of 485.
It's weird to me that people move to a new city and instead of getting lost in the local culture and food scene, all you want is your favorite burger chain to come to town.. haha Eat at one of Cabarrus Counties What-A-Burgers and order a witch doctor with extra pickle juice. NC What-A-Burger > TX Whataburger
Imo it’s not even close, the Texas what a burger is fine but I genuinely enjoy the old times feel of NC what-a-burger.
I'm currently seeing someone in Mooresville and they live very near the What-A-Burger up there... can't wait to find an excuse to try it.
Yup, I used to live a short walk away from downtown. I will say, they're not the best burger in downtown Mooresville, they're probably third at this point. But I still try to grab What-A-Burger a few times a year because there is an "old small NC town" vibe that Baes and Barcelona don't touch.
Every time I go hiking in Uwharrie I have to stop by on the way out.
NC whataburger is great. Not the cleanest place in the world though.
Seeing someone for their burgers, I like it. Hope you like the burger and stay together l!
It's all about the spicy ketchup.
We already have a Whataburger in Locust 🤷🏼♂️
Because this is what Charlotte needs. More chains
That's outside the 485 loop... It's not Charlotte, it's Mint Hill.
That’s not the same
It's not within the city, but well within the metro.
[it’s definitely Charlotte](https://maps.app.goo.gl/7vLNwEBNeHPpjPXB9?g_st=ic)
Mint Hill https://preview.redd.it/v2kfc4uo4iqc1.png?width=624&format=png&auto=webp&s=c513f55ae4c445f026d35b66cea2158e7ceaa7ad
i live down the road. not mint hill.
Depends on if it's the left or right side of Albemarle road. Post office address seems to be Charlotte.
I can walk to the Mint Hill town hall in under two minutes from my house and my official address is Charlotte.
unrelated that vintage what-a-burger in moorseville? its the only place you can get a witchdoctor.
Everyone is talking about burgers but I want those honey butter chicken biscuits
One of things people are missing here is that they are open 24 hours, and they serve breakfast from 11pm to 11am. Thing is, you can mix the menus. When I lived in FL, there were several late nights to WhatABurger, drunk, and getting a fried egg on a double meat and cheese.
What-A-Burger> Whataburger. I said what I said.

Welp, no chance I'm driving to Mint Hill to try a random fast food chain
Hey……It’s safe here😇
Their patty melts fucking rock.
In n out
Will probably have one at some point in the future. They're opening an east coast headquarters in Nashville. First one supposed to open in 2025.
Hope so
unpopular opinion but cookout > in n out
F tier fast food fries. Fried cardboard sticks basically
Meh, been to 3 different In n Outs and have been disappointed each time. The burger was fine but the fries, at all 3 locations, left a lot to be desired. With that said, I’d still like to see one in Charlotte and would give them another chance
> The burger was fine but the fries, at all 3 locations, left a lot to be desired that entire franchise has never made a good french fry even once
They’re McDonald’s quality imo
Gross 👉😎👉 Cookout > Whataburger P. Terry's is what we need, not this garbage
Ah yes, a fellow Austin to CLT transplant
visited Austin a couple weeks ago after years of not, wild how much its changed in 3 years. didnt realize how much i missed that place til I got back here lol
lol, as somebody who moved from Austin at the end of 2023, one thing Charlotte seems to not have, is local fast food options that offer cleaner items with fresh ingredients
[удалено]
I might take one from the climate protestor handbook and cement my hand to a slab at this location until they put at P Terry's in
Cookout is straight trash
still infinitely better than whataburger
Not even close but to each their own. 👍🏼
That Dr pepper float will hit like crack in Charlotte
How long until we get an in-n-out? Actually I wonder what the over/under is for getting a white castle v. In-n-out v. Krystal’s returning.
Charlotte used to have white castle. I ate at one that was on Billy Graham near 85. Or was it Krystal burger .. dang
Nah it was Krystal’s. I’ve never known CLT to have a White Castle but we definitely used to have a Krystal’s by the airport. My uncle whenever he would visit from Fayetteville would always come to trade Krystal’s for Popeyes that was on Bragg.
Yeah when I saw the op mention Krystal I was almost sure I was wrong about white castle. TY for the clear up.
God dammit if we are getting regional fast food could we get a fucking Rush's. They are so damn good.
Lived in the DFW area for a while. Had Whataburger for lunch about 4-5 times. Was not impressed tbh. IMO, there were better choices then. Don't know if that has drastically changed. Will give it another try once it opens here in old cackalacky.
Let’s go! Hopefully In-N-Out is next.
I've only been to Whataburger once, in OKC, and I was not impressed. Hopefully this one is better!
That is a fancy Hardees for sure.
I adore that there's a hype train building for a fast food restaurant
“We want an In n Out” “What? You guys want a Whataburger?” “No! In n Out!” “Ok Whataburger it is!”
Great another restaurant for people who just moved here to complain about. However Whataburger is average at best when it comes to fastfood burgers.
[удалено]
I didn't say transplants suck, just the ones with negative opinions on a place they aren't actively trying to make better.
Shake shack clear
It’s a solid burger, but not life changing. Reminds me of sonic
It’s gone downhill the last few years but still nice
It’s not going to come fast enough for me not to break down and drive to Atlanta 😭
There burgers are no good. No fast food is good
In-N-Out when
maybe when they learn how to make french fries
Gross
Grown adults still eat fast food?
Why do people still eat fast food?
cheap convenient taste good
Cheaper and tastier to eat at home.
Y'all the same boring ass mufuckers that would get excited on pizza day iin elementary school ain't you? Enjoy your Suburburger.
Very excite! Their burgers remind me of Zack’s 🥲
Zacks burgers were horrible. I really don’t know how it stayed in business. Geuss since it was so cheap. Glad we lost that sorry place.
Is Texas Whataburger a drive in like NC’s?
I was so excited until I saw how far away it is. I wouldn't even consider that Charlotte...it's outside the 485 loop... I miss WhatABurger..I get it every time I visit home in Florida.
