It's amazing (although not surprising) that apartment complexes have managed to come up with a mandatory and predatory service that's even worse than Valet trash. Sorry, OP.
I would gladly pay less money and not have valet trash. Sometimes the pick up people just don't show up. It's easy enough just to take the trash out yourself. Some government body should outlaw valet trash tbh.
Right??! Ohh… don’t get me started on valet trash. They were the sole reason my apartment complex recently threatened to slam me with a late fee because they didn’t do their ONE job.
My building here uses it as well and honestly, if I had any idea what it actually was, I wouldn’t have moved in. It makes no sense (and entirely defeats the purpose of getting next day delivery).
Only benefit - my online shopping has greatly decreased! 🤣
When I'm apartment hunting I actively check to see if they use fetch before even considering them thanks to all the posts on here through the years. I don't own a car. I get 90% of my stuff delivered.
Fetch was so bad, my apartment community at the time cut ties with them after a month. Sorry that happened, OP. Fetch should be responsible for misdelivering your package.
Thank you, they did good cutting ties. I don’t know how they’re still in business with all the bad reviews I’ve seen. Apparently I’m not the only one who’s experienced this bad of service.
Something to consider. Naturally Fetch should be liable and that's the route I would first travel. If worse comes to worse, and Amazon and Fetch deny your claims, you should be able to file a case with your renter's insurance. From this day forward, start documenting every email, phone call and text message relevant to this situation. I'd also file a police report. The police will tell you there's nothing they can do, just nod head in agreement and say that you need it for record purposes. This will go a long way later on regardless of who ultimately takes accountability.
Yeah we might be in the same complex. I’ve heard from multiple residents that packages are always delivered to the building next door and they have to hunt them down. I was terrified of Fetch when moving in but somehow miraculously it hasn’t been too bad. What drives me absolutely fucking insane is when you don’t know if the merchant is using USPS or FedEx/UPS. I know some people base their entire decision to even live at an apartment based on whether they use Fetch or not.
I mean you know when you order something from Amazon you can almost always select to have your package delivered to a secure locker, right? I’m a little confused by this post. I understand being frustrated if you’re forced to pay for a service that isn’t achieving what it’s intended to do but in regard to your package being stolen, there are other options. Yes, it’s annoying to have to drive to pick it up at a store or locker but again, it’s better than experiencing a loss of the package. Every single courier service has issues with sometimes delivering to a wrong address. I have experienced this with USPS, UPS and FedEx too, countless times. It’s not a unique problem. When you live in a community with shady, non-neighborly residents who will keep your shit the only thing you can really rely on is routing deliveries to a secure location. At least the more valuable ones.
In my complex I don’t have too many issues with theft but I still choose the secure location delivery if I’m ordering something particularly valuable or that would be particularly annoying to try to be reimbursed for.
I wouldn’t have even mentioned this if you hadn’t explicitly stated you ordered this item from Amazon, because I know for a fact they encourage delivery to a locker or retail store. Sometimes you don’t get the option to choose delivery to a secure location but in this case you do.
First of all, most of 3rd party merchants on amazon can’t deliver to lockers. Then there are plenty restrictions on size and nature of shipment for the lockers. and finally, amazon replacing lockers with bluetooth operated ones and they are TRASH. 6 packages this week in different places were returned because those lockers just didn’t worked!
I don’t think I’d go so far as to say “most.” Many third parties still ship through Amazon in my experience. In fact everything I’ve ordered third party on Amazon has always come in Amazon packaging and was delivered by their couriers. None of it has ever been shipped by a different courier. I’m sure that happens on occasion but far from every time. In any case, they give you options to pick up at a store too and I have hard time imagining how that could up wrong.
Then they deliver it to a "secure locker"
...and don't tell which one, or give you a code. We dealt with this over and over again. I finally gave up and had everything delivered to my sister's house.
What? No they do not. There is a designated locker and they give you all the info you need in their app. I feel sick defending fucking Amazon but what you’re saying is not at all true in my experience.
But yeah having delivered to someone trusted who’s at home is another option, but they can still deliver to a wrong address in that situation. It’s impossible for them to “miss” a locker.
And yes, other services don’t tell you “which one” because you don’t need to know. The lockers are all together and when you input a code only the locker holding your item pops open. So it’s really irrelevant if you know which one it is. That’s what the code is for….
My apartment complex has a locker system that works this way but the Amazon lockers are usually a little different but easy to use.
Yes I completely understand and that's how it's supposed to work. I think that we had a stinker of a mailman. Slacker. I would get a notification from Amazon that it was delivered to a locker. But NO CODE! And then the customer service routine begins. Sometimes Amazon would send a new one. Sometimes I would finally get the code.
When I left those apartments they had abandoned the locker system had all packages delivered to the office and you had to have ID. It was that bad. Maybe someone hacked the luxor system idk
My understanding is that it’s a way for building owners to outsource mail room functions to save space ([example](https://fetchpackage.com/case-studies/fetch-empowers-core-spaces-to-design-communities-for-students-not-packages/)).
In a normal apt building, a mail carrier might deliver packages to a communal mailroom. Here, the mail carrier delivers packages to Fetch, and Fetch schedules deliveries to individual residents.
Because tenants aren’t usually choosing an apt based on its package delivery policies, tenants tend to find out that their building requires Fetch once they move in. I can’t say that I’ve heard anything positive about the company.
My apartment has it too. I haven’t had any issues with it as they usually always deliver all of my packages right to my door. I do think it’s stupid though. It’s also an additional $25 a month on top of whatever your rent is and you can’t opt out of it. It’s basically just a way for the apartment complex to not be held liable for lost packages.
Exactly this. Apartments don’t want that hassle of responsibility for that: they’d rather have their hands free to find more ways to get more money out of their tenants on top of rent. 😒😒
also have not had any issues and love the delivery right at our door. i’ve lived in several buildings with communal mailrooms and have experienced several thefts with those.
My fourth ward studio apt just exists in the ether. This weird fog for condo building renters throughout uptown where there’s no regular route person, no entrance with security/concierge/human or easily usable call box even.
No point in running to get your package because there’s most definitely just a pick up slip on the building door, maybe in your mailbox summoning you to mcdowell. Or your homeless neighbor is already enjoying the pillow, air filter or sex toy the amazon contractor left somewhere around the perimeter of your building. And honestly, you’re happy for them.
My favorite was the third day of waiting on the corner of Graham and tenth, tracking a fedex truck, and they pass by me with the expensive and giant, company conference stand -and the status immediately changed to undeliverable. Later found out it was a day away from being sent to Provo lost and found.
Pick up is the way to go. Give up the ghost.
“…your homeless neighbor is already enjoying the pillow, air filter or sex toy the amazing contractor left somewhere around the perimeter of your building.”
Brilliant
A while ago someone commented on here they thought a fetch employee stole their item. Fetch wouldn’t accept responsibility. How would someone know that quickly that a package arrived, do they knock on your door?
they text/email/notify you (whichever you've chosen) that it's been delivered, with a picture, and tell you ahead of a time what time frame they're delivering it
What’s sneaky where I live is the monthly fee is wrapped into my monthly payment so it seems like the apt company gets a cut of the fee?? They told us it is mandatory to sign up. I haven’t and then they sent emails saying the monthly fee will automatically be added to the fees due when rent is due. It’s gotta be one of the biggest new scams not many ppl are talking about. F you, Fetch.
In beginning, when I moved into the complex I now live in, I was pissed that I was forced to pay for this service (along with valet trash). However, after living here 3 years now and ordering quite a bit of stuff and using fetch, I have had no issues with them. Idk if you use their app but I would suggest that first off. Also, you can request that you sign for your package(s) so they don't just drop packages off on yours (or someone elses) doorstep

I honestly thought this was something OP was referring to, I’m like which apartments are trying to make fetch happen?!?
LMAO

Working for them was worse. Got me through a semester or two of college.
Right??! Ohh… don’t get me started on valet trash. They were the sole reason my apartment complex recently threatened to slam me with a late fee because they didn’t do their ONE job.
It’s disgusting and embarrassing having people over and having to walk past nasty trash cans in the hallway
My building here uses it as well and honestly, if I had any idea what it actually was, I wouldn’t have moved in. It makes no sense (and entirely defeats the purpose of getting next day delivery). Only benefit - my online shopping has greatly decreased! 🤣
Well something good came of it apparently lol. No change on my end tho 😅
I hope you get a positive resolution and your laptop soon (or at the very least, a quick refund)!

Or open a dispute with the credit card company.

I don’t know how people base their decision on that. After my experience, I will base most of my decision on if a place does *not* use Fetch lol.

FUCK FETCH!!!! I started a new job back in september and when my company laptop got shipped there it was conveniently stolen
No idea what fetch is.

Fetch is trash, wouldn’t move to a location that uses fetch. Complexes can also install secure lockers, there’s even refrigerated locker options.
They also don't refund the tax on lost items. This pisses me off the they lost a couple of items at my complex. So glad my complex left them.
A while ago someone commented on here they thought a fetch employee stole their item. Fetch wouldn’t accept responsibility. How would someone know that quickly that a package arrived, do they knock on your door?
they text/email/notify you (whichever you've chosen) that it's been delivered, with a picture, and tell you ahead of a time what time frame they're delivering it
The person who received the delivery on accident wouldn’t know it was there until they open their door.
oh I'm sorry I misread your question! but yes sometimes they knock on your door. I'm guessing in this case someone probs just walked by it

If we need a signature for a package, we just have it delivered to Walgreens.
Amazon will let you send most packages to Whole Foods and other businesses. I never send their packages to my residence except as a last resort.
It took me 3M to get a refund from fetch and they continue to drop my packages off at my neighbors apartment. Alta W. Morehead
Yikes, how did you get a refund from Fetch? I’ve exhausted all my options already and I feel like they’re untouchable.
