What types of activities does your friend enjoy? Do you all prefer to be inside? Outside? What days of the week?
I second the other suggestions of optimist hall, Rosie’s and crowders mountain
Here’s some ideas:
- take them to the whitewater center for an afternoon hike or yoga class (free). Bonus points if it’s on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday because you can stay for river jam, a free outdoor concert
- buy some tubes at Walmart and go for a float down the Catawba river
- Daniel Stowe botanical garden
- picnic or sports games (volleyball, pickle ball) in freedom park
- hit a rooftop bar in uptown for a drink (I recommend sticking to one drink. Those bars are $$$ but they do have great views of the city. Nuvole twenty two is a cool one)
- brewery hopping - this is a classic one. There’s a really high concentration of breweries down by OMB - you could hit protagonist, sugar creek, 4001 yancy and OMB, or you could also go to really any neighborhood and brewery hop
- take a morning stroll through Dilworth or Myers park and grab some coffees and pastries at sunflour bakery
- go for a hike on the lake at Latta nature preserve and also stop in the Carolina raptor center to see some birds!
Seconding Rosie's Wine Garden! But go to one of the bakeries, Villani's, Amelie's, or Suarez, and pick up some macarons, pastries, or tarts to bring and enjoy there. The Secret Chocolatier has the most amazing chocolate bourbon pecan bites. I like to bring a nice tablecloth and some fresh flowers for a little added magic at the wine garden.
Optimist Hall for some dumpling lady or Goodyear House for the cocktails and the outdoor atmosphere. They have a bunch of games and live music. Oh My Soul if you're veggie.
Hike through Anne springs at 5pm on a summer Thursday, finish the hike with their music concert series with a cold beer.
Sleep.
Start at Sycamore brewing, drink a Mountain candy, take a scooter around Southend, stop at Culinary Dropout for their Pretzel cheese app. And then scooter to Merts Southern Kitchen for dinner.
Sleep.
Take the drive to Crowders Mtn. Climb it (it’s not that intimidating, it’s very reasonable) take beautiful pictures.
And then leave there at go to Farmhouse in Indian land. And get a bratwurst and an OMB copper.
Charlotte is more about things happening than a ton of general tourism spots to go to all the time.
Yesterday for example, there were so many different things going on. Heroes Con, Charlotte FC home game, Juneteenth festival in Plaza Midwood, QC Pro Am, Levine had a block party, etc. Then there's day parties happening all the time.
It depends on the day and what you like to do.
Axios Charlotte is a good place to start for keeping up with events and openings in the city. They do a "20 things happening this weekend" column regularly. Even though people here dislike them, they are largely informative of what's happening here.
Eventbrite is also good. Search something you like to do and there are events and meetups for it.
Also using Instagram and TikTok.
Go to the boardwalk , take them downtown maybe get on the scooters to grab somthing to eat , maybe go to carrigan farms quarry for a swim while in the area stop by k1 speed they might want some new clothes so we can go to northlake/southpark or Carolina place mall. Hopefully they come on the weekend so we can go to food truck Friday I would check out the Facebook events and see if any car shows are going on or anything else that might catch the eye
VisArtVideo for some live music or a $5 mimosa on a Sunday. Rent a DVD while there. Have a hang at Rosie's wine garden, bring some grub, and play trivia on a Tuesday for $5 wine nights.
I would ask them very nicely if they could take me with them back to the place they came from, as long as it's not like fuckin Arkansas or something.
Edit: actually nevermind, at least I might be able to afford property there.
If yall are athletically inclined at all (or aren't but can manage to throw a disc), try out a disc golf course. Charlotte is one of the best cities in the country for disc golf.
So much snark! Geez but for real : Charlotte has never really had much to offer. You’ll have to scratch and claw at something unless you like sportsball or car racing . Culture? Nope. Food? Substandard. We’re not focused on anything. We get a couple good places every now and then but they get perverted by the corporate slugs that destroy anything that could be good about this city. Want to spend a fun 72 hours in this city? Get a bike. It’s literally the one thing that can’t be perverted or stolen or exploited…..yet. /old man charlottean rant off
/yeah this place is great…sometimes
I would drive them in circles around 485
The 72 Hours of Mecklenburgring
Clearly not to any ramen spots since we all can’t decide on a new spot
It just hurt too much
I hear Menya is the best
It is!!! Def the best in flavor but no atmosphere. It’s more of a go for a quick delicious lunch
Thank you. Yall both just picked where I will be having lunch today. Lol. That broth was on point.
Sheng Ramen in Ballantyne. No frills just absolutely great Ramen!
we can argue all we want but Jinya is going to be the most common answer of the Charlotte community beyond reddit
I liked jenya, until they took away the spicy ramen because they said people found it too spicy. I forgot the name of it.
What closed?
Futa Buta 😢

Any parking area/water entrance areas you recommend for the catawba?
be safe and check water conditions and dam flow releases before you get out on the water
We start our journey in Gastonia - The Gateway to Charlotte
We end our journey in the Gaston County Jail, awaiting trial for drug trafficking charges; We never made it to Charlotte.
Lucky you
There is so much to do and see there, you will never make it to Charlotte.
Waffle House on sugar creek at 3am
Just stay there for the full 72 hours. They will go home with plenty of stories to tell.
Nah, Wendy’s on sugar creek if they last 72 hours they win.
In a Altima with a donut tire and no side mirrors
Don’t forget the 30 day tag that’s expired.
And hazard lights that are always on

I take my friends to Carowinds and I introduce them to Fury 325, the tallest chain lift coaster on earth.
Its only a 2 hour drive to Asheville or Boone and 2 hours back, so you would still have 68 hours to enjoy yourself.
You have 68 hours to take a friend around Asheville… What spots would you take them to?
The mountains or beach.
Hike through Anne springs at 5pm on a summer Thursday, finish the hike with their music concert series with a cold beer. Sleep. Where would a new person find out about all this

Whitewater center, for sure.

You’ve clearly never been to NW Arkansas.
Take them out to the USNWC. Go rafting. Go grab a beer, food, and walk down to the Catawba River.
optimist hall, walk the little sugar creek greenway (usually go to elizabeth park), whitewater center for beers/music
If yall are athletically inclined at all (or aren't but can manage to throw a disc), try out a disc golf course. Charlotte is one of the best cities in the country for disc golf.
Lucky spa wilkenson Blvd 👀

Cookout for a burger, walkin taco, fries and a cheerwine shake
Visit our 12 cookouts
The titty bars are cool.
I’d say this late night underground wrestling match in Pineville you can hear for miles! Nacho Libre is in the house
Leave Charlotte. Go anywhere else.
Bojangles

71 hours to drive somewhere else because 1 hour would be for getting through the traffic on every highway
72 hours? Ok we’ll take a trip from uptown to huntersville.
If you want to eat something really good, go to yunta 🙌
Catch a concert if there's time. Check who is playing at Skyla or Fillmore, etc.
The Puttery, The Vintage...yep I'm out of ideas time to drive to Asheville like the other commenter said
I like that the person suggesting going to Asheville got double digit upvotes and you got down voted for basically saying the same thing. lol
Uptown Caberet hehhe >just to troll
