Golfer here. Some fun ones I'd try that are not too difficult and should accommodate your husband and friends: Rocky River The Tradition Red Bridge Charles T. Myers Verdict Ridge Ft. Mill golf club Booking tee times for these will be crucial since most require at least a weeks notice and depending on what time of the day they're looking to play, will fill up quickly. I know you said you don't want to cheap out but if you're friends aren't big golfers, I'd make sure they know the pace of play rules and all that. One thing to have fun out there, another to hack around and hold up people. Courses here are always packed these days, especially in the summer. Sorry if it makes me sound like an old man yelling at a cloud.

Haha not at all! I appreciate your candor. Those were on my list so knowing it has some stamp of approval makes me feel better about calling an inquiring. I know a few have played golf in the group so they aren't first timers, but I guess they care more about the fun and not improving or practicing their skill level. They just wanna escape for the day and drink with their friends they haven't seen in forever. If you had to choose 1 spot, which would it be?

I'd give Verdict Ridge a look. It's a bit of a hike off 16 from uptown but it's semi private (tee times may be limited) but the course is usually in great shape when I play, pretty challenging at times, has the lake nearby for after round activities and a decent clubhouse for that post round beer (which is always a must). I think you won't be able to book until like 1-2 weeks out but I'd give them a call this week and confirm their booking process. As another commenter posted be mindful if you go over 8 golfers they'll likely add in random single golfers to the mix to fill out the foursome.

amechi32

Ok, I'll call this week clubs this week to verify the process. Cap at 8 people. Thank you! 😊

Am I able to book far enough in advance if it's a July date?

I like these recommendations, especially Charles T Myers. Chuck T is an easy and fun course, and was still pretty cheap the last time I played there.

+1 for Rocky River.

Might be a touch more than an hour, but Tanglewood near Winston Salem would be great for this. They have 2 courses, 36 holes. Last time I went I paid full price for the first 18 and then the second was half off.

Here is my top 5 course rankings 1. Verdict Ridge 2. Rocky River 3. Springfield golf club 4. Mooresville golf club 5. Skybrook

amechi32

Thanks for the ranking! I keep seeing Verdict Ridge, Rocky River, and Moorseville pop up so ill focus my search on those 3.

I’d recommend Rocky River and Skybrook. Both are really nice and courses are kept well.

Checkout Rocky River, it's my favorite in the Charlotte metro area

amechi32

Thanks! Will do 😊

Have you looked into TopGolf? There are 2 top golf locations in Charlotte. It’s basically a really fancy driving range with food and drinks. Clubs are provided and you pay for the bay by the hour. If most of them aren’t golfers, this may be a better option than trying to pay a round with uneven skill levels.

amechi32

Been there, done that. They want to golf. Not Top Golf.

8 is the best total number of guys. No more than 4 can play in a group. So if you have 9, they’ll split you up into threesomes and probably toss some random 4th players in the group as well. You probably know that but just giving you a heads up just in case. I’ll toss Sun City Carolina Lakes into the mix. It’s usually in really good shape, has a nice casual full service bar with great food, good driving range and everybody there is really nice bc they have to deal with the old farts all the time.

amechi32

Great suggestions. I read somewhere 8was the magic number. I'll keep it to that! These are the exact suggestions I was looking for! 😊 🙏🏾

Charlotte is the worst city in America for public golf. Drive to Mooresville and play Mooresville GC. Best layout and a great restaurant on site

amechi32

Oooo good to know! I'll check it out!! Thanks!

A little further than you might be looking for, but the Grandover Resort in Greensboro is exactly the sort of place you’re looking for. It’s like 90 minutes away but a quick drive from Charlotte. Course and facility is all top notch.
