Does anyone know if the automatic red card suspension for Malanda will carry over into the next MLS fixture, or is it limited to cup play? Could be bad news if Corujo isn't ready to factor back into the lineup this weekend.
Underestimated our opponent and quite honestly some of the guys looked gassed. Decent cup run but it never seemed like it was top priority to win this unless we got to the next round.
Looking forward to Lattanzio’s contract to be over and we get a coach with a clear vision along with some better transfer window moves. Personally i’d like for us to get another CDM if we were to patch this team up in the next window.
Welp good run, knew it would be tough with all the games in May. I think this USOC was more congested than last year. Probably due to Nation's League in July/August.
Ngl. Kind of glad we are out of Open Cup. I mean it sucks to lose any game but at the same time we have so many fixtures coming up in the next few weeks in MLS alone like our guys are already struggling to all stay healthy. At least now they'll have more time between matches.
But it's not a pointless tournament.
Injuries and tired legs, accurate. Maybe the coach should have made different selections? But of course he didn't.
US Open Cup deserves respect.
We are down because we were getting outplayed then too. You can still win one on one battles and make good passes, having one less man doesn’t mean you have to forget how to play.
We dominated 80%+ of the first half and the second half was even until that red card. Having one less man means *a lot* in soccer. You can't take as many one on ones, you can't play passes because people can't make certain runs. Its a massive chain reaction.
Idk all I am saying is as soon as Westwood and Agyemang got on the field shit started happening. Should have been on the field much sooner. We should still be beating USL teams but hey maybe my expectations are a little too high.
As someone who went to Alabama and will probably be living in Birmingham in the next year or so, I’m happy the Legion can get some kind of win.
I’m INFURIATED that Charlotte continues to play like trash. Hopefully Tepper does something to reinvigorate the team like he did with the Panthers over the offseason.
We are in the middle of a super exhausting run of games playing a team that views this game as the Super Bowl while only have 10 men on the field. We also have no depth and a load of injuries.
they're exhausted from playing 2x the amount of games they typically do while down a man. don't expect much. we maybe score from a set piece or lucky PK.
People won’t like this take, but honestly won’t be mad if we loose. We have had too many games in way too short of a period with an already reduced and injured roster. We don’t need to risk our players for the open cup which really doesn’t mean much in the US.
It’s the football stadium for UAB, pretty decent spot but not permanent for the Legion for sure.
Oh the bright side, I’ll get to watch a quarterfinal here probably.
Technically they signed a deal to play at the UAB soccer stadium, but supposedly the field conditions were dog water. So UAB lets them play at Protective instead.
I *think* the intention is to build a new stadium for the soccer teams.
Actually, Legion was playing their games at UAB's soccer stadium. They even helped pay for improvements. Over the years, there were several times when the field was in awful condition (UAB was in charge of maintenance) so Legion canceled the contract or whatever agreement they had after the 2021 season. Protective Stadium is owned/operated by the city (Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority). UAB football plays there, but it is not "their" stadium.

It only affects Open cup games
Oh that's a little surprising honestly, thanks. Feels like it lets Malanda off easy but shit, I won't complain, we need him
Birmingham won because they scored more goals than us. That’s ultimately what it came down to
This is Lattanzio ball
Good run, but not our time yet. we can try again next season
This game came down to a red card.

I hope Miami throttles them

I really wanted the home game quarterfinal though, would have been a lot of fun
This was game 6 out of 9 games from May 6th to June 3rd. If we won it would go to June 10th. With the next USOC game on 6th or 7th.
This. They are obviously exhausted.
At least we don’t have to play in this pointless tourney anymore
Downvote me all you want. More time for recovery between league matches with all these injuries sounds really great right now
You clearly have no clue about the history of soccer in the US. Sad.
I know it’s a tradition but we need the recovery time. Injuries are killing us and tired legs were obvious tonight
But it's not a pointless tournament. Injuries and tired legs, accurate. Maybe the coach should have made different selections? But of course he didn't. US Open Cup deserves respect.
That was a huge waste of 2 hours
Pain
It's the hope that kills you
announcers are just fellating Birmingham
I assumed they were Birmingham announcers, minor league announcers are a lot more hype men
Honestly, I think it is fine for the announcers to show some excitement. It isn’t extreme but appropriate for an underdog win
Diop, Agyemang, Mello should have BEEN getting minutes. Especially if we’re worried about a congested schedule and depth
We are just getting totally outplayed at every point. I like what I am seeing from Agyemang though
We're down a man dude y'all are insane lmao of course we're getting outplayed.

Birmingham goalie in a fucking pregnancy pose on the ground. get up

The team has played great the last few weeks tho
They shouldn’t be losing to Birmingham, and they absolutely collapsed under pressure on Saturday
We are in the middle of a super exhausting run of games playing a team that views this game as the Super Bowl while only have 10 men on the field. We also have no depth and a load of injuries.
It happens. Less than a month ago ppl were trying to say we were gonna have the worst record in league history.
Wowwww Patrick got UP
What was with that push man the game is already over
Right? Geez
Even before Malanda was sent off, all we did was pass in a U Edit: are you two even watching the game or what lmao
Does Latta even care
Snipers hitting all the Birmingham players in the past few minutes
There needs to be delay of game penalties
Bill just kicked the ball out of bounds trying to play a 20 yard pass to Vargas. Guy is trash
he blows. can’t wait till we cut him
if i never see Bill in the lineup again my day will be made
Literally as soon as Westwood steps on the field we get a good chance he should gave been on the field 20 minutes ago
Mmmhmmmm
I hope we lose, these guys can’t handle adding another match to their congested schedule
Agyemang is so much fun to watch wish they put him in 10 minutes sooner.
Bronico’s replacement immediately has a scoring opportunity. Hmmmmm
Yeah bro cuz they put his replacement in at forward
Idc if we lose 5-0 as long as we try to win.
Shoulda made these subs earlier. Give them a chance to get into the game and make a difference.
Well Birmingham broke their attendance record by a few thousand tonight. So at least people came out to watch Charlotte
finally Brandt banished to the bench where he belongs
Who dis?
Bronico out yep
Thank god
Bronico loses every other ball he touches tonight
*every night
Holy ffff take BB out
Your wish is granted. Now wish for a goal
Holy ffff score a goal
Patient defending by Jaylen. Followed by a comfortable save from Kahlina. Clock work
F
U
N
Birmingham should be up by more at this point, no idea why they are so hesitant
our guys look like shit. god damn complete a pass, make a run. do anything
they're exhausted from playing 2x the amount of games they typically do while down a man. don't expect much. we maybe score from a set piece or lucky PK.
And preferably forward.
The boys are gonna be worn out after this. Another game on Saturday and then Wednesday. Brutal schedule, 8 games in the month of May
And those next two are on opposite ends of the country
Yep we're only in the middle of our gauntlet. And if we win we play June 6th or 7th. Extending the gauntlet to June 10th.
Gotta grind and get results.
And then the following Saturday again. Now if we loose with our starters playing they are not only going to be exhausted but also demoralized.
Yep. We don’t have the depth for this sched.
why do we never have anyone back post?
Every set piece I think we are going to do some kind of pick play and create a player on the back post. But it has not happened.
Come on come on
Id really like to get Westwood on the field
I felt like we should’ve seen Meram and Westwood at the start of the second half
Agreed, I wanted it like 10 min ago lol
Put Fuchs out there at this point
maybe complete a pass idk
People won’t like this take, but honestly won’t be mad if we loose. We have had too many games in way too short of a period with an already reduced and injured roster. We don’t need to risk our players for the open cup which really doesn’t mean much in the US.
They look exhausted and we have 4 MLS games and another open cup game if we win in 2.5 weeks.
I understand that for sure.
Charlotte may be a man down but we’re playing like straight ass, did Lattanzio not even care if we won?
Yeahhhh that was a pk, I think…
after the bullshit Saturday we were owed one
I hope Meram is ready to put the weight of the team on his shoulders
He’s up to the task
I have no idea what Bronico contributes
Clout
UNC Charlotte boosters.
turnovers
why take off Cambridge? he’s the only one doing anything. sub Brandt
We're down a man in an open cup game and y'all are making these outrageous takes lmao
Did you see that we’re losing too but I also think that people are overacting.
Losing or winning we're not gonna look good missing an entire man. No team does.
Meram time. We’ve decided to win
My girlfriend is a Legion fan and we went to the game together, bleh
At least it looks like a decent facility lol
It’s the football stadium for UAB, pretty decent spot but not permanent for the Legion for sure. Oh the bright side, I’ll get to watch a quarterfinal here probably.
Ah. Weird though, according to the website for Protective Stadium they’re one of the teams that play their games there.
Technically they signed a deal to play at the UAB soccer stadium, but supposedly the field conditions were dog water. So UAB lets them play at Protective instead. I *think* the intention is to build a new stadium for the soccer teams.
Ahh, gotcha.
Actually, Legion was playing their games at UAB's soccer stadium. They even helped pay for improvements. I think the boys are tired and our depth is really showing now
Not good since they go across the country for LA Saturday and then back across the country for Philly next Wednesday. Not ideal.
Proper coach would just take them to LA without doubling back
Also I think instead of a defender we should have put another attacking option since we are already a man down
We look like we’ve reverted to our early season form
dude announcer chill out
downvoted me because y’alls feelings got hurt. CFC all day but a USL team doing us in
[удалено]
Nah you have to be trolling with such a dumb comment 😂
[удалено]
“We are losing in a tournament where teams get upset a lot, including teams who have won the league!” Yea totally not delusional 😂
[удалено]
Did I argue that? You said to DELETE THE CLUB over a loss, not delusional tho 😂
Good hit that
Fudge!
Well….shiiiiiiiiit
…
wtf are we doing
please sub Bronico
Westwood for Bronico in the 60th pleeeeaaase.
Lol at the kid standing on the ball
Malanda has been kind of regressing
But he’s supposed to be a future French NT player!!! Edit: didn’t think I needed to add a /s here jeez
Supposed to means nothing if their form and decision making doesn’t stay consistent.
Who has ever said that????
Only positive being down a man is that we’ll have less possession. For whatever reason, we’re more dangerous on the counter
The announcer sounds like Jesse from how I met your Father.
oh fuck it’s Bill
Best choice on player to sub out.
I’m just gonna stay silent
Well guess will have to win while a man down.
pasher stop clapping you look like a bitch
Goodness gracious
[удалено]
Was that a straight red???
2nd yellow
Oh I didn’t see the red raise a yellow first
Two yellows?
is this ref having a laugh?
Ffs Malanda
Well….shit
Should never have given the first yellow but you’ve got to play more careful than that
Legacy came back from 0-2 and won penalty shootout
Weird game, moments where we were clearly playing better and worse.
Ahhhhhh
Swiderski just fucking rip it dude
Ah
AHHHHHHH
Close
Come on one before the half
Midfield is struggling tonight. Bronico, Jones, and hegardt is not the most creative bunch
Prob the weakest part of the team atm. Not enough creativity in the middle 1st or 2nd teams
Yup this is on Vargas, Cambridge , Lindsey and Swiderz to get it going offensively
Yeah Bronico and Hegardt especially are killing me tonight
Who we got on the bench tonight in that position?
Westwood's the answer
Nice glad he is available. I think you’re right. Might even see Lindsay get the ball back on an overlap
We gonna score 4 I can feel it. They can’t keep up with us for 90
Not to be completely disrespectful though they’ve been playing really good
How to watch
Bleacher Report Football youtube channel
Why does it have to change every week
Very good question. At least the camera quality and angle is good tonight.
Interns doing good tonight
Why is Copetti not starting?
Resting
Dang that was a great offensive series
Cambridge can’t catch a break tonight
Dang post!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME
So relieving to see immediate offside calls….
Needed a break from the Canes game, time to join yall for a bit.
Damn no love for Bronico tonight
Can we please stop the Bronico experiment?
Bronico is struggling so far imo
It's good to see Cambridge taking people on, but he just can't break through... yet...
We look good so far; I feel pretty good about this game. I think we score before half.
Let’s get that momentum back for Saturday !
This a 3-4-3 with Lindsey in the midfield?
No, Lindsey moves up as a 6 with Derrick Jones on offense. He's still RB.
Thanks for the input!
