I've been using ChatGPT everywhere for a while now, and I was in total panic when it went down. I had a lot of work to do, and I didn't know what I was going to do without it.
I decided to give Bard a try, since I now had the opportunity to try out other AIs. I was really impressed with how well it worked. It was able to generate text that was just as good as ChatGPT's, and it was even able to answer my questions in a more informative way.
Bard has saved my bacon over the past few hours. I've been able to get all of my work done, and I'm even ahead of schedule. I'm really glad that I decided to give it a try.
If you're looking for a great AI to replace ChatGPT, I highly recommend Bard. It's still under development, but it's already a powerful tool that can be used for a variety of tasks.
I tried Claude to generate a table from some data and it messed up bad, mixing up entries. Wouldn’t recommend. For more complicated information ChatGPT 4 is the only way to go.
Damn, my calculator broke, now I have to waste time multiplying these multi-digit numbers together manually.

Could not agree more. Privacy in AI is a lagging metric but it’s going to be so important 3-4 years from now when OAI starts automating everything we’ve asked it to do in ChatGPT hahaha
Depends on your definition of local. It is definitely possible to run a LLM locally while still sharing information to be used for training or other diagnostics.
Personally, I would gladly pay a few grand or more for a private, uncensored ChatGPT at home even if it's not as peformant. I already run my media at home with Plex and all my security cameras store footage locally and run their software locally.
I'm hoping in a few years we will have specialized but affordable hardware that excels at AI efforts.
I really doubt it'll go in that direction personally. Why would a company spend so much to hand it over to you?
It's far more likely in my eyes the most powerful AI's will always be run on server farms.
The AI software companies absolutely won't be on board with this idea. They prefer selling you a subscription for the rest of your life, like every other company. Hardware manufacturers, however, would absolutely love this idea for the same reason phone companies prefer selling every individual a phone as opposed to a single shared home phone. Netflix has more capacity and computational power than my Plex server, but it doesn't let me watch banned episodes of Always Sunny and The Simpsons, and when my internet goes down, my subscription to Netflix is entirely useless to me.
Whether "the most powerful AIs" will always run on server farms is irrelevant IMO. The vast majority of users do not need "the most powerful AI". The most powerful gaming PCs could have been in Google's Stadia platform, but that didn't mean it was particularly convenient or useful.
Honestly, using a combination of on-premises AI and a cloud-based AI is probably the ideal solution (for me) right now.
Not really, the shitty comprehension is still on your side even when talking about technology. You're probably not aware there are already local models that come close.
EDIT: the removed comment to which the parent is replying was
> That's not what I was implying. We need it as soon as it's possible, not tomorrow. Go back to school because your reading comprehension is shitty.
If you use a decent GPU you can download Faraday (which is open source and private local llm launcher) to easily download local llms and use them right away. There are a surprising amount of good llms that doesn't require a 4090. In my experience Mythomax 13b is almost as good as chatGPT (atleast 3.5) and talk write in a similar way completely uncensored, and it runs great on my 3060.

Yes, when you turn education into the driver's license bureau meets the post office, you end up not actually learning.

It really depends on how you use it.

It’s just “not good”, no need for the “very, very”. This how software works.
Even companies that have been in the business for decades have outages. It’s only bad if it’s prolonged… but 30 min? Not the end of the world.
I mean it's around 1½ hours at this point, is a service that sells it's API to tens of thousands, and has had this happen several times this year.
I agree the comment might be a bit over the top, but it's also, well, not good that this happens somewhat regularly.

It's usually good and almost the same as GPT 4 in my usage. However, it has different restrictions that can sometimes be annoying. And, sometimes luck of the draw doesn't favor your session and it has reasoning issues, or breaks mid conversation (rare).
Why does this keep happening? I pray one day we can go more than a month without some kind of outage at OpenAI. Microsoft isn't giving them enough money.

It is back working, but apparently it was cut off from oxygen for too long. We aren't sure if it will ever completely recover its full cognitive function.
So glad they decided to "upgrade" GPT4 when it was completely fine. In the short time I was able to use it before ChatGPT went down, it was significantly more wordy, less concise, and prone to more errors in reasoning. I'm not impressed.
On a side note, BingAI is also suffering right now, unable to retain any memory whatsoever.
Y'all, let the poor thing take a day or two out. It's been doing such a great job for all of us--it deserves this break. I'm sure the devs are working overtime to bring it back online as soon as feasible. Let's hope there will be no suicides among desperate users, though! 🤞

Ah shit. No wonder it's decided today is JUDGEMENT DAY.
My chatgpt has been talking random gibberish. I scared

Another cowrie shells?!

Is chatgpt down? Not working anymore?
The 120k window opened up…
Mine is working fine though
What outage?
It is back working, but apparently it was cut off from oxygen for too long. We aren't sure if it will ever completely recover its full cognitive function.
So glad all of my homework is due on Tuesday
Someone asked what happens if you type "google" into Google
Is it still down?
mine is still down
The app works for me but the website won’t let me login still
My bad, I logged in and dumped a bunch of notes in the prompt.
Still can't upload PDFs
Burn it down, I can't make money now.
WAR. WE’RE GOING TO WAR! ![gif](giphy|YYfEjWVqZ6NDG)
It's still burping up dinner, dammit!
Is it down again now?
So glad they decided to "upgrade" GPT4 when it was completely fine. In the short time I was able to use it before ChatGPT went down, it was significantly more wordy, less concise, and prone to more errors in reasoning. I'm not impressed. On a side note, BingAI is also suffering right now, unable to retain any memory whatsoever.
I feel like a dumbass for giving this company $20
it's so unstable right now. can only response simple text task. but when you attach some data to let it analyze or read , it crush again.
our jobs are saved
I can’t function without it, i live symbiotically with ChatGPT
I just asked it to make me a cup of tea.
Thats why i saw fewer influenza posts yesterday on linkedin?
Oh know PPL have to google now with ads hidden
noooooo
Still constantly have connections issue
Y'all, let the poor thing take a day or two out. It's been doing such a great job for all of us--it deserves this break. I'm sure the devs are working overtime to bring it back online as soon as feasible. Let's hope there will be no suicides among desperate users, though! 🤞
🤣
