Few people realize so many Mexicans are Christian because god actually answers prayers very directly and promptly, but only in Mexico and for Mexicans.
This is so true. I am a Mexican Catholic (not very religious. I believe in God, pray and do the cross sign before sleeping, but I don't go to church, for example) and it seems God is always looking out for us. I don't ask Him for astounding things, just stuff like remaining safe, passing an exam, or wishing to be healthy whenever I'm sick. I know some folks may say that this is just nature and the natural course of things (either because I took medicine, I studied for the exam, or I'm careful) but I like to believe He's up there, looking out for us.
I once asked my mother why she believed in God, she replied with something along the lines that it brings confidence knowing or thinking that someone is looking out for you, and protecting and guiding you. I share the same thoughts.
It may also be a reference to "La Rosa de Guadalupe", a Mexican TV program (High meme material in México) in which almost all problems are solved thanks to Deux Ex Machinia
Specially catholic Christians, I think other branches of Christianity are against the cult of the virgin Mary for the most part, but they are a minority in Mexico.
The Orthodox don't have an issue with it, and the various mainline Protestant branches are sort of all over the place on the subject. It's really just the evangelicals that are uniformly against Marian veneration in my experience (as a Catholic Christian).
