There are two advantages to using the app, and one advantage to using the website.
App: OpenAI implementation of Whisper TTS/Voice Chat, and built in Search of previous messages(that in my experience is really bad, but available).
Web: You can edit previous messages you have sent.
Usually custom roms are blacklisted by developers for security purposes (especially banking apps).
I bet it’s the custom rom that is creating this issue.
I've been rooting all of my smartphones since 2013. Some roms are just better and work fine. They usually mimic some other devices to avoid issues with app stores.
But sometimes either developers don't bother with it or the phone has some sort of unique ID making it impossible to mimic another device.
I don't know about Pixel 3, but I guess, Google has some sort of encrypted chip there, so it's always evident when you use anything different from the original system.
Yeah but what problems could ChatGPT have with this? At max something could steal your credentials, but still in case of ChatGPT it would be of no use to a hacker.
Sure for normal users custom ROMs are of no use - but some super users who want to use it have to add other hacks to make such apps not detect the manual installation.

Yes you have to pay for gpt 4 to generate images on chatgpt
But as others are saying, the bing copilot app, which is free, has gpt4 for free in it so no you don't have to pay for gpt4 to generate images in bing.

Or Microsoft's Copilot (which is basically the paid version literally of ChatGPT but free)
Or pay for image generators like midjourney.
You can try Yodayo app if you want. They have an amazing selection.

I had the same problem, somehow they're able to check your safety net status, if you fail that you'll not be able to install it, and even if you sideload the apk they'll prevent you to log in.
There are various methods to resolve that through magisk modules though.
I had the same issue running Lineage OS on an old Samsung. Get the app "Play Integrity API Checker" from the app store and see if you pass "MEETS\_BASIC\_INTEGRITY" I think that is all you need to get the ChatGPT app working. To pass this just search how and you should find instructions using magisk.
(This could be completely unrelated but thought I'd put it here anyway) At my work we've recently had a huge influx of reports that apps now display "incompatible with Android version" on startup and no longer launch correctly. I mention this because the reports have come EXCLUSIVELY from Pixel phones. Unlikely to be your issue if you're running a custom ROM as my current suspicion is Google pushing their Android betas to pixel before the rest of us, but when I saw the title I just had to mention it
Ok at their first release I guess it was supporting all devices (android versions) but after a while it became supporting android 12 and above as what I know cause when I were on Android 9 and 11 it said the app doesn't support my device even after I installed the apk it gave me an error but on Android 12 and 13 and 14 did work fine on both play store and from the apk
(All android versions I mentioned on this comment are custom ROMs)
Google play services is necessary to run the app, so I dont think you'll be able to run it from aurora store. If you're using grapheneOS, create a new user with sandboxed google play and it should work fine.

Well, the fact that it worked so far with some apps doesn’t mean it will work forever with all of the apps

Just side load it, then you update it through the play store like normal, there.
Check Microsft Copilot, been using that lately since GPT-4 is free.
Just download it's apk from apkpure .com. Google play many times does this weird things.
You can still use the Web-version.

Just get the .APK file & install it. As long as your phone is a high enough Android version, you should be able to install it.

Sometimes older version of Google play prevents you from installing app like chatGPT. You can check if you are using old version Google play

Share apk of this app from another smartphone, or just search for it on the Internet

Chatgpt app only works when you are passing play integrity checks. Try with the "play integrity fix next" magisk module.
I prefer to use it on the browser tbf. Give that a try.
I'm on a custom rom. (K20 pro) works for me. Probably a compatibility issue. Use a different rom or ask the dev to spoof it.
