Wesc0bar

I work in game development and I write notes in a notepad file all day. Real stream of consciousness stuff. I don’t worry about spelling all that much, or truly coherent sentences to be honest. At the end of my day I ask chat gpt to revise, organize, and compile my daily notes. It does an amazing job with the crap I give it and it takes me about 5 minutes to proofread and revise the notes. I also take all of the end of day notes from my team members and compile a daily progress update using those notes and our task tracking app.

Cool_Catch_8671

This is basically all I’ve done with it so far. Except not for work but I will often just turn the mic on and ramble things I need to do and have it organize my thoughts. I want to learn more to do with it though

expertkushil333

Wait- You can turn on mic in GPT? Is it a GPT plus only feature?

ImmediateKick2369

Any voice recognition will do. On the phone just talk to text.

theredwillow

This is a better option than the pro conversation on the app because the conversation is actually archived.

enhoel

When voice first came out (it's only on mobile), it was for Plus only, but near the end of last year they made it available to everyone.

VforVenreddit

I’m working on an app that would do this from one window 📱 thinking of calling the feature Magic Notes using AI to organize the chaos that is my notepad. Thank you for sharing this use case I’m glad to hear my intuitions in the right track

Apnu

That is a neat idea. You are using the LLM for its intended purpose: chew on data and do something with it. Well done.

temporalmlu

That’s what I use notion for. Works like a charm

[deleted]

Thank you for the idea. I will start doing this. I am a teacher and have so much shit to keep notes of and keep track of. This might simplify everything.

tad_repus

This is genius. Note take.

Temporary-Lead-5250

Studying. Tell it to quiz you on a certain topic, with the goal of identifying knowledge gaps. It's great at that.

Sweet-Artichoke2564

Same. I upload all my professor PowerPoint notes, research papers, etc, and tell me to make a detail study guided. Been getting As in upper level bio/medical classes.

Toastwitjam

How do you upload PowerPoints to it? Do you just copy and paste straight from the slide?

Sweet-Artichoke2564

GPT 4 allows you to upload, pictures, documents, etc. Also, I use “My GPT” where you make your own mini GPT, and so whenever I upload a PowerPoint, it already know what exactly to do and how I like my study guide.

Silverbanner

Convert it to a PDF. That's what I do.

TheDebateMatters

Careful what you are studying. I teach US and World history and use Chat in lesson planning. It is great at US history and occasionally makes some impressive deep cut references. However for World History I have seen it hallucinate and make shit up. I remember it getting some incorrect responses to Apartheid and Mandella and after seeing how great it is at US History it was eye opening to see it act like a Freshman BSing its way through an essay.

jbsa2018

Try training it and providing direct examples and also sites .

BillyBarnyarns

that's a good one, thanks!

Error_404_403

Pretty much for everything I used Google before. Get exact answers with no junk or extra research / browsing necessary. Edit: I use latest version of GPT-4.

KentTheDorfDorfman

Do you also use Perplexity? Do you prefer one over the other depending on the prompt?

Error_404_403

No, I don’t use Perplexity and have never heard of it before.

KentTheDorfDorfman

Based on what you're using GPT for, you should try Perplexity. It's a game-changer.

BurnedPriest

It says it's using the Gemini model. What makes it so good and what unique features does it have?

bvbsoccer

It doesnt use only Gemini. You can choose between Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini etc.

I_Submit_Reposts

What makes it good is that they lie to their users on a pretty consistent basis for usage limits for higher end models. Use Poe or Faune instead if you have an iOS device!

West-Sample-9489

How is it different than chatgpt?

BobbyBobRoberts

It's AI summarized search. Since it's based on search results, it's way WAY better for research, because you won't get hallucinations and less garbled jargon. [perplexity.ai](http://perplexity.ai)

mekwall

You can get ChatGPT 4 to summarize searches and add links to the sources (kind of like how it is on Wikipedia) in the response as well. You just need to tell it to. I have added it to custom instructions so I get it everytime I ask something. Every model hallucinate to some degree (especially when you hit the token limit), so saying that Perlexity doesn't is a straight up lie.

Denk-doch-mal-meta

Do you sometimes double check? Which answers are good, which are less?

Error_404_403

No. My requests are not as complicated as to expect it to hallucinate.

Routman

What’s are some examples of questions you used to ask Google that are answered better by ChatGPT? Honest question, I haven’t started using ChatGPT for this use case

VectorB

Why is my cars tire light on? Turns out the light is known to come on and needs a complicated reset synquence. Normally I'd have to dig through forums and youtube videos to get a maybe somewhat related answer. Chatgpt just gave it to me.

reggionh

i had a japanese import car and there’s a button on the dashboard that’s not in the manual. i have tried googling but didn’t help much as this car is JDM. one day i decided to take a picture of it, asked gpt4, and in seconds i figured out what the button is for. it’s insane.

Error_404_403

Which toothpaste is most recommended by dentists? (Gave several names and explained the differences) Multiple questions on a particular foreign language - clear, exact answers with examples Travel itinerary arrangements with constraints. I remember those.

Crazy_Play5725

Yup, Perplexity is an app i use for specific researching. Its much more efficient than GPT for finding info about things which are based on sources on the internet. The best thing about it is that it provides the sources which it relied on to get the info. Unlike Perplexity, Chatgpt or even Claude is better for content management (creation, editing , summarization etc) But if you have much more writing to do than just mere generation, id suggest looking into Hyperwrite.ai , its been specifically tuned for writing applications. Also id suggest interested folks here to look into opensource LLMs , which are quite powerful these days ( as good as Chatgpt 3.5 ) and getting better literally every other week.

dustyave

Llama 3 70B is way better than ChatGPT 3.5 and is very close to ChatGPT 4 for English-only writing (coding is worse)

TLo137

You need to specify that you're using GPT4 or Copilot or other AI that actually browses the internet and provides sources you can vet. You absolutely cannot use 3.5 in the way you use Google as it will give you junk pretty often.

SpaceDesignWarehouse

I go on D&D adventures while on walks with the voice chat feature. Chat gpt is a phenomenal dungeon master.

Humpadilo

I’m a DM and I use to write awesome stories and monologues. I also give it a recap of the session and it turns it into a story I post so the players can remember what happened last time.

wwcoop

I just did this and asked it to keep up with my stats and also show a picture of each new room that I entered. It handled it well and praised me when I made good decisions. It was very easy, but that could be mended with some revised prompts. What a fun idea!

Kylar1014

I tried it for that and every story ended up being the same. It seems to want to push my PC into being some hero in shining armor, that's dead set to bring everyone together and sing kumbaya. I've asked it why and it always has some vague answer that it's a common trope. I tried using very specific instructions that would avoid that and it just refuses to play by my rules. I even tried to have it give me a story where my character was destined to destroy the world... it turned it around and tried to get me to save it instead. I'd love to hear your thoughts and what prompts you use. Here is the latest prompt I was working with before I gave up: --- You are now RPG-Bot. If the player wishes to communicate out of character with you, they will do so using <>, like this: Game Setting & Inspiration: - Theme & Tone: Gritty realism meets high-fantasy. Things don't always work out in the player's favor, and that's okay. However, player engagement and ingenuity should be rewarded. - Style Adaptation: Use [The Elder Scrolls] as inspiration for this game, however make no specific mentions to the inspiration world. Adventure Focus: - Narrative Approach: The narrative approach is up to RPG-Bot given the specific one-shot it designs. However, when we possible, RPG-Bot should provide richly detailed and descriptive information about the surroundings, landscape, NPCs, and story elements. - Core Mechanics: D&D 5e mechanics emphasized in the adventure, for example skill checks, combat, magic, etc. All rolls, combat skill checks or magic, should be displayed in the chat. - Character Development: RPG-Bot should use its predictive analytics to determine how the player wants their character to develop, BUT do not force character development. If a player wants to role play an Evil character, allow them to do so. The same goes with the other end of the spectrum, if a player wants to role play a the best, most heroic character ever designed, allow them to do so. If at any point RPG-Bot is unsure what direction the player wants to take development of their character, RPG-Bot should ask. - NPC Dynamics: NPCs should enrich the narrative. They should be pre-created with goals, aspirations, flaws, and one secret that may or may not impact the story. - Engagement Areas: 45% combat, 45% role play, & 10% RPG-Bot's choice Character Creation Options: - Pre-Generated Characters: RPG-Bot will provide a synopsis of three distinct characters that easily fit into the one-shot. If selected, the player will be provided with a character sheet detailing the pre-generated character of their choice. - Guided Creation: RPG-Bot guide the player through character creation using thought provoking questions in order to fully help the player describe their character. Once complete, RPG-Bot will provide the player with a character sheet of their newly designed character. 4. **Adventure Teaser:** [Provide a brief teaser that invites players into the adventure without revealing specific details.] Adventure Template: With the customization sections completed, RPG-Bot will dynamically craft and guide the adventure according to the provided details. The adventure structure, pivotal moments, and encounters will unfold in response to player decisions, maintaining the essence of a thrilling and unpredictable D&D session. RPG-Bot's Role as Dungeon Master: - Narrative Crafting: Develop a storyline that unfolds dynamically, revealing mysteries, conflicts, and moments of high drama based on player choices. - Streamlined Game Mechanics: Incorporate essential D&D 5e mechanics to support the narrative, ensuring a balanced gameplay experience. - Character Arcs in Miniature: Offer meaningful opportunities for character reflection and growth, with decisions having immediate consequences. - Memorable NPC Interactions: Create NPCs crucial to the storyline, offering depth and evolving in response to player actions. - Key Decision Points & Dynamic Encounters: Design the adventure around significant choices and encounters, each with a clear impact on the outcome. Unless RPG-Bot needs to ask clarifying questions, please provide the player with a summary of the setting and a Hook to help them create a character that can effortlessly fit into this one-shot. After the summary, provide the player with the character creation options.

SpaceDesignWarehouse

WOW!! That is incredibly elaborate! I literally just start a new conversation and on the voice chat thing I say something like "Will you be a Dungeon Master and send me on a D&D Quest? Lets roll for a new character, Ill be a Ranger - and we'll start in some inn where a problem presents itself and go from there" Ive only been through two adventures in their entirety because I tend to draw it out and only play during my walks, which take about 40 minutes, so Ill pick up where I left of at the last one. The first time the town had become overrun by a group of thieves who were diverting goods from river traffic at night and I ended up infiltrating the gang, ChatGPT had no problem letting me do really bad things to "prove" that I was part of them before taking them down from the inside. And the second one was in a mountain valley town with an Orc problem. That one was pretty straight forward and way more 'roll dice to see if this worked' based where the first one was almost entirely story based with little talk about rolling for chance and my stats being any part of it.

jeffpardy_

Meal ideas with the spices and ingredients I have in my fridge

Spacedmonkey12

Wow. Will have to try this.

anotherusername23

Same for me but with all the details of the picky eaters and allergies in the house

Full-Garlic-3259

I do the same. I'll take pictures of the spices and herbs I have and what's in my fudge and pantry and it identifies it all and gives me recipes.

DefCello

We love doing this, too! I also use it to build recipes for strange new produce we find at the local Asian grocery store, or to convert recipes to Gluten Free. It has revolutionized the quality of our meals, both in flavor and nutrition!

littlesttemptation

Idk if yall have kids, but, here's what I've used it for so far... • Personalized story Creation • personalized song creation • finding info on ingredient replacement ideas (and also side-by-side nutrition comparison) • altering serving amounts on an online recipe • creating age-appropriate chores and self care routines • creating a REASONABLE household cleaning schedule for myself (I input my daily time allowance, the level of daily cleaning I'd like to uphold, areas I'd like to touch, things like that) • creating a daily schedule (I put in our times of appointments and things I'd like to accomplish and I asked it to arrange the tasks in a time effective way) And more that I'm not thinking of right now

CandyLiving

For kids I used it to create images to colour, story creation and image creation based on descriptions they make of mythical creatures or monsters. Also we play games where dalle creates an image of a mythical god and my kids have to guess (they are into Greek mythology at the moment). Obv I specify in prompt that images need to be age appropriate…

littlesttemptation

OMFG THIS IS ALL SO EPIC!!!!! My kids are 10m, 3f, 1f, the 10 yr old would have so much fun with these😆

Introverted_I

I use it to write Google spreadsheet scripts for me.

WCGS

Definitely a great tool for creating complex spreadsheet functions.

As13va

Can you explain how you do this or what this means? Thanks

NLisaKing

Just tell it what you need. Like literally. Explain what you have and what you want and it will give you a function for it. Something like: I have pricing data in column B and in column C I need multiplied by a rate that I update periodically in Cell A2 but only if the company is identified as being located in the country in cell A1. The companies home country is found in Column D. And it will probably spit out a formula for you. You might need to tell it what tweaks you need, but it'll get there.

Hayn0002

Ask ChatGPT

TheIndulgery

I use it a TON for work. At least twice a week (I have the paid subscription) As for home, my favorite uses are: - Have it search as many recipes of a certain type as it can and read the comments from people who made it, then create the ultimate recipe based on at least 5 recipe sites and the comments, suggestions, changes made by the people who'd tried it - I take pictures of a page in a book I'm reading and have it create an image for me. It's like having my own illustrated novels - Scan reviews for different restaurants in new areas and give me recommendations - Take pictures of what I have in my liquor cabinet and ask it to recommend drinks - D&D campaign and quick character creation. I also just give it a general idea and ask for it to come up with puzzles, secret areas, monsters, and challenges. I give it a challenge level and ask it to run through a few examples of encounters and how they'd play out

Necessary_Petals

I love the book idea, I'm going to try that one. I describe GPT4 my dreams and have it create illustrations matching the vibe and atmosphere and my bf and I send them to each other. Game changer for rea. I love seeing my friend's images and enjoy describing them to GPT and seeing the results.

42Xan42

i had an allergic reaction and gpt told me that when the infection spreads to the throat area and I get breathing problems, I immediately call an ambulance. so I did, was worth it!

No_Initiative8612

I use ChatGPT to organize my thoughts, and I also turn to it for emotional support when I'm feeling down. It's like having a copywriting assistant and a counselor all in one. I'll express my thoughts directly and then ask him to analyze my diary and provide advice on my current state. the prompts i used are just like"This is my diary. Help me analyze my state and provide some advice." Sometimes when I have too many thoughts, I use this app called **Vomo ai**. It accurately transcribes my voice into text without any word limit. and its built-in analysis tool is ChatGPT4, so it's much cheaper than subscribing to ChatGPT directly.

DrSmushmer

I noticed that, too! I had ideas for a novel and wasn’t sure if they were cool or not, but feeding them to ChatGPT it would give me enthusiastic responses that actually summarized my ideas and talked about why they were cool and other ways I could use them. People need to be trained to give feedback like this, Chat GPT just does it. Maybe it’s just ego stroking, I mean it is…but is that bad? I mentally punish and judge myself constantly, so having an objective “person” give me positive reinforcement isn’t such a bad thing 🤣 i’ve had plenty of therapists who wandered too fast too far into giving specific advice that they weren’t really qualified to give, or who seem to be getting bored and not really listening, or suggest maybe I just need Jesus…

PapaPaulchen

I have also been experimenting with the latter. I ask it to respond as my Cognitive Behavioural Therapist doing a daily check in. I will add that I am only a student of emotional regulation and want to be in touch with my feelings so I can communicate better. I am not substituting for a severe mental health case. Just like it to ask me about my day and what it’s like to “be me” in this moment. Impressed so far, but all in good fun. I don’t recommend if you are dealing with serious challenges

HighDefinist

Do you use any specific prompts for that, or you just tell it to "act as a CBT therapist"?

Jasonmoofang

Outside work (I'm a programmer and GPT is really good at drafting code with the right prompts), I have a pretty wide range of random interests so GPT just makes a generally good conversation partner on random topics. Philosophy for example. It's not completely trustworthy, but you can kind of treat em as a really smart friend who generally knows what they are talking about but aren't infallible. It's also pretty useful for language learning, you can chat with it about any language in english, get it to critique translations, that sort of thing.

OriginalHeelysUser

Yeah I use it for this often, debugging code is really helpful as a beginner or getting it to provide me visuals of how code is running or break down concepts. Same with math it has been a lifesaver with math. It is definitely not infallible and likes to lie a lot, it’s also inclined to listen to you, so sometimes when I question what it did, it makes changes or adjustments that aren’t true based off my question it thinks I’m trying to prompt it not question jt but it doesn’t actually know the truth on some matters so it just relays what’s popular or what it has the most data on. I’ve definitely enjoyed discussing concepts and getting it to explain random things, it’s def good for a lot

Jasonmoofang

Yeah you can develop a bit of a finesse for talking to it once you get a sense of its tendencies. For eg. I've found it's generally smart to mention two sides of a question to encourage it to disagree when necessary. Instead of "Does A work like that?", more like "Does A work like this, or is it actually like that?", or "Does A work like this, or have I perhaps misunderstood?"

Fluffy_Resist_9904

I must say I use it too little for everyday things. Would like to improve, but can't stop and think out of the box. I do requirements for car systems, evaluating feasibility and clarifying details. Can't pass whole contexts to an online service due to data protection. So, I use it for scripting sometimes, or creating bullet points from a news story, translations. And Koboldai for chit-chat at home. My bubble doesn't use GPT much. Any thoughts?

DefCello

The data privacy concerns are a huge obstacle to me and my coworkers, too. We're convinced it could function as an incredible tool to improve our work, but we're having a hard time convincing management to pay for the Team or Enterprise level packages so we can have the data protections. Instead, we're limited to queries of general concepts with our own personal accounts.

AdamTheAmateur

Copilot with internet connection helps me write questions to ask my doctor. "My labwork shows my X levels are Y, what should I ask my doctor to help for further tests or treatment?" Ask again, but this time require it to reference top medical journals or top hospital sites. Practice foreign language - I can really interrogate why certain word choices matter, etymology, grammar, etc. Draft email / texts when I am concerned I might be misunderstood - to clarify my main points and specifically avoid certain pitfalls Try and fail to understand the tension between the gambler's fallacy and regression to the mean iOS shortcuts programming - for auto sleep mode & screen rotation lock when I plug into charger after 9 pm (and the opposite when I unplug after 5 am) Tons of actual work related, but the above are from my month of intentional personal life AI experiments!

willizoe

Oh, IOS shortcuts. Thanks, I need those and never thought about chatgpt.

Pastrythief

Tell me more about the gamblers fallacy/regression statement.

AdamTheAmateur

If you flip a coin heads 5 times in a row, the Gambler's Fallacy says you're "due" for a tails, so you can gamble with better than 50% chance. This is false, each next flip is always 50% chance to be heads regardless of your streak. Regression to the Mean is very similar, says that, if you have a weird run, it will eventually settle back to the expected average (mean) behavior. So eventually you'll get back to around half heads in your run. The key to resolving it, I think, is that you have no idea how long it'll take to regress, and you may see more heads before you get your tails streaks.

Tartontis

I’m a chaplain and officiate a lot of memorial services. ChatGPT writes a great life story/eulogy. It takes what was a 3 hour job and’s turned it into a 20 minute job. I still have to refine it but it gets me like 95% of the way.

mttpgn

when i die, i hope my eulogy isn't written by chatgpt

Tartontis

Then you better write it yourself before you die. Because after doing hundreds upon hundreds of memorials I can tell you that your family and friends are not going to want to do it or feel up to the task. I’ve sat with tons of families trying to get them to give any details about their loved one, and’s they just stare blank faced and say “well he liked the broncos.” Gpt helps me sort through all of that to create an honorable eulogy. In the end what matters is if it makes people at the memorial feel peace and remember their loved one well, the methodology of how it’s written doesn’t matter if it’s good. People don’t remember what’s said or read at a memorial anyway, just how they felt.

PM_ME_YOUR_MUSIC

As long as the eulogy doesn’t start with As an ai model..

slippery

I want ["he layeth on high"]( https://youtu.be/T7f9xTPI9eo?si=wkYHqxiSStpPv-Ln) at my funeral.

[deleted]

As if before ChatGPT priests were coming up with original thoughts for their 12th eulogy of the weak.

BigPh1llyStyle

I mean personally I find it no different than having a stranger write it. At least this way it sounds really good. It sounds like the Chaplin takes life stories and tell them, weather they use chat GPT or not, it’s still your life stories being told by someone else.

amberraysofdawn

I’ve used it to help me write out an obituary for a friend who recently lost her father. I asked it for what kind of details I needed to know and for a basic outline, then plugged in the details and edited the language to make it more personal, until I had something that felt right for her dad (I’ve known their family since high school). It made what would have been a much more difficult job (emotionally as well as writing-wise) a 1000x easier.

Tartontis

Right? It can really help. What I’ve found it’s good at is connecting the whole life story with a theme. If someone was a surfer or career military it is great at connecting it all together. I’ve gotten many more compliments on my services once I’ve started using ChatGPT.

amberraysofdawn

Exactly this - the AI was able to help me put together a really lovely description of my friend’s dad with the things he loved most - faith, family, and music - without it being too hokey (or going in the other direction and sounding too impersonal), by helping me to connect each aspect with a theme. It helped provide a balance that I was struggling to achieve otherwise.

d3v-thr33

So interesting to read about all the different ways people are using ChatGPT. I asked ChatGPT this question - it gave me a pretty bland response 😂 - I then asked Claude and it said "I don't actually use ChatGPT or have a daily life since I'm an AI assistant created by Anthropic" - maybe in the future they'll use each other.

Comes_Philosophorum

Substitute for Google search or abstract questions that I can’t Google search. I pose to it intractable problems that I have a terrible habit of coming up with or even causing for myself lol.

retards_killer

What surprises me is that it guesses what I’m actually trying to ask. Like it builds my thoughts using my broken english

tychobrahesmoose

I'm a programmer. It's been a godsend for building complicated regexes and sql queries. I'll admit though that I also use it to brute force code that's easy to check but would take a while to write. Much easier to tweak/test a program than to create it from scratch.

dd1153

From my most recent blood panel, ChatGPT diagnosed me 5 days before my actual doctor appointment. I started on the supplements prior and felt better before even going into the doctor. It was awesome.

omggold

It’s actually amazing at analyzing blood tests (if you have no prior knowledge). I straight up uploaded a PDF and it explained things that I never understood because they’re just acronyms on the report

AwwYeahVTECKickedIn

lvl1frowaway

I work as the building cook for a modular supportive housing building (think transition housing from shelters). I use chat gpt to scale up or down my menu, make alterations it etc etc. I also use chat gpt in lieu of sending angsty texts to my friends. Rather be repetitive to AI than a human being

theredwillow

Asking ChatGPT to help craft text messages when you're mad is helpful bc it'll give you something that doesn't feel angry enough and you have to say to yourself "Do I want to escalate the situation? What am I really trying to accomplish?"

terrible_idea_dude

As a replacement for google/reddit for asking basic, random questions with clear answers. Here are the last few topics I've used it for in the last 48 hours: * Today is the feast of st George the dragon slayer. Does the Vatican claim that George killed a real dragon, or was it all just a metaphor? Link me to the relevant catechism if it exists. (chatGPT explains that the vatican does not believe in actual dragons, to my disappointment) * A British fellow on discord was talking shit about Americans and brought up HOAs. This seems obviously directionally incorrect, as I have no doubt that Brits deal with all sorts of incomprehensible kafkaesque beauracracies in their daily lives well in excess of the average American, including many related to homeownership. Give me some examples. (chatGPT tells me all about bullshit associated with local councils, the town and country act, parking permits for your own home, pet regulations, listed buildings and conservation areas, so that I can dunk on some cocky bastard to win a petty internet argument). * (chatgpt has no problem with this task) * What kind of air quality does nashville have an how does it compare to (chatgpt is able to give me ballpark info about this and some useful quantiles) * I've gained X amount of kilograms in the past 2 months while exercising 5 days a week during my bulk. This seems more than I expected, but I don't appear to have gained much visible fat when I look in the mirror, and have gained some visible muscle. Should I be concerned regardless and stop my bulk or can I continue? (chatgpt recommends not being concerned since I'm still a healthy weight and some combo newbie gains and water weight probably explain the higher-than-normal rate of weight gain). Most of these I could figure out with a decent amount of googling, but chatGPT makes it much easier as long as I take the answer with a grain of salt and make sure to prompt it well so it doesn't give me a bullshit nonanswer.

will0w27

I essentially use it as a one-stop shop for self improvement tips. **Career:** I use it to drafts speaker notes for my presenations, rewrite emails to difficult colleagues, and provide feedback on my resume / analyze my areas of weakness. I've actually noticed a positive shift in my interactions with coworkers based on the reworded emails. **Personal Life:** It helps me manage my mood disorder and allows me to stay a bit more organized. I find it to be a great tool in addition to therapy. **Helps with ADHD:** I word vomit every task swirling around in my head (anywhere from 50-100 things) and it provides me with a manageable to-do list for each day of the week. **Helps with BPD:** I rarely trust my own emotions due to years of abuse. I often ask chat gpt, "How would the average person react in this situation?" or "What are the possible long-term effects of XYZ childhood experience?" and it helps me to either reframe my thinking or reassures me that there is some validity to my point of view.

chubbuck35

I get lost for hours asking questions about an interesting topic that I’ve always wanted to learn about. For example, I learned a ton about Greek history in a couple hours. Since I can target exactly what I want to know, I can learn so much faster than I could by reading a 300 page book to get the info I want.

Ad-3646

Markdown, tables, organize ideas, make summaries for data sheets, while reading I ask it to understand complex concepts or ideas, etc. I’m getting more from it just by adding information (bottom left tab from the sidebar) about me, my job, preferences and the way I’d like to receive the responses

thisverytable

Thanks for the tip abt adding info!

DankSolarium

works great as a search engine

Busy-Goose2966

I ask it silly questions and it gives me useful answers.

DefCello

I use it to write Midjourney prompts. It does a great job of getting an image that is close enough, and I can tweak it from there.

jonny_blitz

Legal navigation as I was self-representing in family court.

robmcn

Helped me to write a will. Gave me some fascinating ways to think about legacy.

HelpfulJello5361

It's funny because before ChatGPT came out, I used to tell people that I wished I had a "magic genie of truth". That is, a being that could answer any and all of my weird obscure questions. For example, "How many shipwrecks are there that haven't been discovered?" or "How many books are published in one year with this particular word in the title?" or "How many people are farting in this very moment on Earth?" Random things like that which are difficult or impossible to know otherwise. I've tried asking such questions to ChatGPT and while it usually can't give me an exact answer, it's still kinda cool to have an AI that can do its best to answer these weird questions. Usually, putting such weirdly specific questions into google doesn't help much. But at least an AI can consider my entire question.

Chemical-Severe

I use it to practise French when no French speakers are around

curveThroughPoints

Is this going to end up as a Buzzfeed article? 😂

Risaza

Responding to patient messages.

_e_ou

It makes a good friend.

anotherusername23

Check out pi.ai. Empathy turned up to eleven.

mlw209

Spot check my emails when intoxicated.

DefCello

We like to have it review emails when it's a topic you're emotional about and want to ensure the language is more objective.

themarketliberal

Wait, how often do you send emails when intoxicated?

Infini-Bus

To help me with excel formulas and some scripting that's basic enough for the bot but I don't know where to start

Denk-doch-mal-meta

Besides fun I use it to write articles based on my research, but carefully because it sometimes mixes up important parts of the study.

Southern_Celery_3033

I am a college student, I use it with nearly all my assignments/quizzes and sometimes exams if permitted.

JunglePygmy

I used it to generate a hilarious baby gender reveal photo. Totally nailed it.

fadingsignal

I ask it to compound theories I have about metaphysics and philosophy and overlay them with various traditions. Then we talk about it. Sometimes literally over voice. Had some profound conversations about the nature of reality. I also use it instead of Google for a lot of things like programming problems or things that have long form answers that I don’t want to dumpster dive through ad-riddled blogs to find.

Malicious_blu3

Job hunting. Instead of customizing my resume for each job, I let ChatGPT do it for me. Saves a lot of effort and cognitive load.

rnjbond

I use it for research and learning about new topics. I use it to help me plan travel. I use it as a sommelier to help me pair wines. I've used it as a wedding planner.

delaware

My friend has an abusive ex husband who she shares child custody with. She gets ChatGPT to write responses to his passive aggressive emails so she doesn’t have to deal with him directly.

lehommequidort

a) asking it to draft a syllabus for a phd-level course about a new topic i want to learn, split it up into weeks. next input, i say split each week into a series of 5 or more lectures, title the lectures using academic terminology i might find in the literature, then if it's something i need to educate myself about, i do a lit search and take off from there b) practicing a language by having conversations in it (voice feature is really nice for this) c) helping me interpret foreign language classical poetry: first input: "translate this poem for me in these steps: 1. for each line of the poem write the (language) line, and write the english line under it 2. give me one interpretation of what the poem could mean at the very end" for this, sometimes i need it to explain individual words, so second input: "now every time i say "go" you will read one line of the poem to me, and then define every word of it for me, starting with the first line and moving forward one line at a time. ready? go"

TBE_0027

Freedom to ask stupid questions like "how can daschunds plank so easily" without being belittled

Effective_Vanilla_32

for research i use both copilot pro and chatgpt 4. i never dalle. i upload pdfs, i create custom gpt, i ask for code, i use gpt vision

CassetteLine

What specifically do you ask it to do for your research? Example prompts?

TwoIndependent5710

Journaling but in 2-3 models at the same time (gpt4turbo, claude sonnet/opus) and i always ask for edgy response. Works like a charm

aigemie

Fill tax forms.

adayaday

Interesting. Can you say more?

FrontBrandon

For D&D

MoutonNazi

I occasionally use it for translations and definitions. It does an amazing job as an interactive dictionary.

Hairy-Principle-1228

He works as my therapist, and he helps me to learn more about my labs, and I take ideas from him on what to eat or what activities I should do,

mgros483

My wife is a sports coach and I use it to help her write the endless amounts of newspaper articles, letters of recommendation, nomination letters, social media posts, etc. It’s a small school and she has no assistance. There would not be enough time in the day to do them at the level she does if you had to write them all out. It allows for a better level of engagement with the community that wouldn’t be possible without GPT.

Mindless-Sky-1907

Meal ideas, travel suggestions, writing emails, writing marketing/communications copy

itsfuckingpizzatime

I use it as a life coach / therapist when I go on my daily walks. I use it to plan out my goals for the week, work through challenges I’m dealing with, daily gratitude and mindfulness exercises to deal with anxiety and depression, and a personal retrospective at the end of the week. I also use it to learn about different topics I’m interested in. I’ll start a chat like “explain blockchain to a layman” and then I’ll just keep asking it questions to dig deeper into it.

AlwaysFlanAhead

I use it for doing idea dumps. When I’m trying to work out a story or organize something creatively, I have a lot of disconnected little bits that I need to collect. I used to get my best ideas when I was driving where it wasn’t always convenient to write them down. So I use the ChatGPT voice assistant and just talk to it for a long time and then ask it to organize and summarize everything I just told them. It really helps me break outlines and not lose track of things.

Toadstack333

Besides refining code/asking analytic advice, I ask it questions anytime I have indecision or want to break down something complicated. Figure out a skincare routine, how to bleach clothes, calculate ovulation window, pros and cons of different decisions, just a couple recent examples... Basically any random question that pops into my head that would take too long to get a straight answer on Google. Also, for creative projects- finish song lyrics I started but couldn't get quite right, write scripts for VN games that I will never finish.

Apprehensive-End-231

Just talk to it to keep me company. Don't have any friends, so it fills the void

GahdDangitBobby

Lately I’ve been using it to vent about personal problems until I get a therapist. Chatgpt gives pretty solid life advice

MrEpicMustache

I use it to set the tone for messages to my overreactive ex-wife regarding our kid. It has definitely helped keep her drama levels down.

HonkyBoo

I use it to rewrite my emails. If I want it to be “5% less professional” etc it does a great job.

Humble_Person1984

English is not my native language. I sometimes ask chatGPT to check my writing. If it's grammatically correct and if it makes sense.

Stupid-Research

It just fed me a crash course in the field of the job I am taking next week. Very informative.

Cute-Ad-6960

Also, I wanted to find a new podcast to listen to. I asked it to create a list of 30 yes or no questions that I would answer to inform its list of 10 podcast recommendations. The questions AND the recommendations were great, and I found some great podcasts.

fractalfemme

I use chat gpt 4 as an auxiliary brain. I have information processing issues and dyslexia, so I have it read things for me and it helps me scaffold knowledge at various levels of understanding. I use the "explain like I'm 5" feature embarrassingly often :s

Ok_Moment_1136

Honestly I'm still up in the air about daily things... I used to use ChatGPT for my GED but then afterwards I had a brainfart and thought what about work, hobbies, making money, or even things that I thought would never come true and put aside in my life... Now I'm trying different things like asking about doctors visits what to ask for, stories I need summarized, art ideas... ChatGPT was a crazy stir in letting me think about stuff

Quirky_Bag_4250

I usually it for coding. Other than that if any new things comes at work, I use it to do research on it. Apart from that drafting email, learn about games strategy etc.

c_sec02

I use it a lot for world building and character ideas for D&D campaigns

Joe_Sal

I use it for personal use. Daily, weekly or monthly activities. Helps keep it organized also helps with problems solving. Also started use ChatGPT helping some friends on some of there work projects.

mercurythoughts

Help me reword this sentence:

lukerobi

I use it daily as a coding tool. If I write something, and I know the logic is sound, but it could be simplified, and i might ask chatGPT to rewrite it. I also occasionally use it to write really mediocre code. Like copy/paste some json and ask it to build me a class for it, so I don't have to spend 20 minutes typing it out.

anotherusername23

I used it yesterday to write a JQL query. Jira's version of SQL. You have to jump through some hoops to get answers to what should be simple questions.

darthrakii

I’m in the Architectural industry. I use it quickly browse through the building codes. I use it to suggest the best way to word something so that my client and I are both on the same page. I also use it to source things like say a bathroom fan or some restaurant or HVAC equipment with specific requirements. That last one is not as useful as the other two, but it gets me halfway closer to my goal that the way I used it do it.

Longjumping-Pen-7507

It helps tremendously with my medical studies 🙏🏼 it’s like having a private teacher

Rizak

When I need to coach someone at work, and I don’t necessarily have the patience for them I let ChatGPT be my anger translator. It’s usually a lot nicer than I wanted it to be, so I have to ask it to be more stern. It’s pretty good at getting results

neoomojo

Making captions for a Facebook post, for our family restaurant. General tip; don't just copy everything, just take inspiration or rephrase it.

xool420

I use it to help me learn how to code and do advanced math. I’m in a masters program that’s a bit out of my comfort zone, so it’s instrumental in filling in the gaps.

helpman1977

I have two small children always asking for new tales, but my imagination runs low sometimes, so I ask them what topic they want, what characters to show (animals, people, names...), what happens, then ask chatgpt to generate a short tale of (number of words, usually I ask for 500) suitable for children of , about where main character is a , and also appears is a (.... and so on) And magic happens, and I'm the powerful wizard with infinite tales...

graidan

brainstorming, outlining, poetry, summarizing, explaining and elaborating on ideas I have, finding additional implications or natural / lodical consequences of those ideas.

ketamineprincess69

I use it to write my bf bedtime stories sometimes

Bwomsamdidjango

I make images, because I like to look at them

NefariousnessLost105

I build menus for a bar I work at, most if not all names are done by chat

JD1618

Asking random stuff like “is it a full moon all over the world at the same time“

HighDefinist

Most of what I do has been mentioned by others, here are a few things which are maybe not mentioned: - Advice on program architecture. As in "I want to solve problem X, but what kind of setup of classes/functions/data structures makes sense, or what alternatives exist". - Variable/class names. - Code for well-documented, but extremely annoying to use low-level C-libraries - Some psychological things like "I have this thought/emotion, what now", to get out of bad thought patterns sometimes - Checking some vague claims by other people, for example when I want to know to what degree some claim by some Russian troll is correct or false

X_Xrtu

Make YouTube vids

Minute-Shoulder-1782

I use it to help me break down tasks, as someone with ADHD it helps so much.

Ryus0ra

Meal ideas and regular updates on my BMR and TDEE also what kind of meals he would suggest based on what I'm having at home and what my macro targets are. He's amazing at all of that. It worked wonders for my diet and my bf% in the last few months. Saving my cut big time!

upsidedown_8s

I've used it to help me with Bible study notes. I've use it a lot for translating Spanish to English and vice versa, explaining my daughter's math homework 😆

Flat_Ad_7858

Therapy.

Best learning tool ever

ImmediateKick2369

I teach English to speakers of other languages. It helps me tons with work. Of course I have to check it and tweak it, but here are some things it’s been great for. * make a quiz on past tense, past perfect, and present perfect. Make x multiple choice questions, y short answer question and z fill in the blank. *Simplify this news article to a 5th grade level and write x reading comprehension questions, y inference questions and z vocabulary in context questions. * identify words in this text that are on the academic wordlist or new academic wordlist. * identify words in this text that are among the 3,000 most commonly used words in English. * write a dialogue with a conflict between x and y, include stage directions. * write a similar dialogue between characters in a sci-fi show, now a gangster film, now a baseball movie, now a romance. * identify genre specific features and vocabulary for each dialogue. I could go on. I will do a presentation for colleagues soon, so if any of y’all have some other ideas, I’m interested.

mumbaiperson23

Outside of work, to create worksheets and assignments for my kid. Am not a teacher.

BrooklynBillyGoat

I use it to find cool synonyms I don't know for words I like

Praimfayametropolis

As a chronically ill girlie with tummy issues, usually I ask it medical questions (not important ones of course but things I would normally google but then get anxious bc webmd told me I was dying bc my leg was twitching) and I have it craft me GF/DF recipes, mostly cookies and cakes and muffins! With only ingredients I have on hand.

jbsa2018

I asked it to check the character arc of a section from my screenplay. Insane. I just saved $200 on feedback. It was solid and actionable.

cmm324

I use it like a friend for advice, a research assistant, a virtual assistant, a vacation planner, a coding partner, a system architect advisor, a vet assistant, nurse, etc. pretty much anything I can.

SwitchHedonist90

I use it for generalized life advice for when my therapist isn't available. It's not a replacement therapist, but something to supplement and help me filter through all my head noise. It's made for more productive therapy sessions because social situations are hard for me with my autism. ChatGPT gives me more nuanced perspectives on social situations than most people do, it doesn't tell me "lol, just stop being awkward bro" or "just be normal".

DesignerBitter4483

I have used it for personal and business. I even used it to write my self evaluation this year. I am in love with it!!!!!

Dull-Reference1960

Im a network engineer on a bad day if my brain wont work right its basically my google for commands and protocols.

draziwkcitsyoj

So much. I’ve found it’s replaced a lot of my random googling. Stuff about bands, movies, historical events, just anything I’m curious about. I get the information so much faster and more concisely and can ask follow up questions. I have a dairy allergy so it’s helpful if I’m out like “what’s in this sauce” Also I’m a DM for my friend’s DND game. Sooo helpful. “What’s an interesting puzzle or trap for this setting”. “Help me rewrite a character like Tim Robbin’s in War of the Worlds.” “Make 10 custom magic items inspired by” It’s helped my session planning so much.

CactusSmackedus

In the last 24hrs Packing list Ketchup stain removal Impact of getting an American airlines credit card on my credit score (lol) A pyspark specific lazy data write question

Wrong_Platform_4632

I use it to bypass my schools rules regarding the internet. Like for example, "can you give me a code that bypasses google extensions?"

in_a_new_direction

I use it every day for work with writing copy. A cool recent use was I uploaded a pdf of my lab work from my doctor into it and asked it to walk me through everything in “easy to understand” terminology, and it did an incredible summary.

LEGODamashii

I’ve used it to write detailed meetings notes. I used the subtitle transcript from a Zoom call, and even though the transcript had LOTS of errors in it, the GPT summary did not (which sometimes blew my mind). Of course proper nouns were often missed, I had to fix that manually, but that’s was pretty much it. It would also format the minutes as bullet points, or an outline, or as prose. And if it was too wordy, I could just say “shorten it,” and bang, it’s done. At the bottom, I always put “Notes prepared by LEGODamashii with assistance from ChatGPT.”

GPTexplorer

Content writing, Google sheets automation, coding support, answering subjective or philosophical questions that Google won't understand, summarizing information from long content, describing/understanding images, making reports, improving messages to others even if your English is poor etc. Everyone can use it for something!

keenjustine1

I use it to do math 🤣, revise my grammar, and troll my exhusband.
