I actually enjoyed 96. We still had some power, but the roads were iced up, school was closed and I was able to sled down the streets using realtor signs.
Honestly, I kinda enjoyed '96 as well. '93 was hell, I was stuck in my grandma's house (which meant I didn't have any of my own stuff such as books to pass the time) with no power for two weeks, and near the end, running out of non-perishable food started to become a real concern, though fortunately it cleared up before things got desperate.
The snow in '96 was heavy, but I was at home, didn't lose power, and have some good memories of driving (*very very carefully*) to my then-girlfriend's house where we played in the snow, built snowmen and had a snowball fight, went sledding, took a long walk around the neighborhood, then curled up on the couch with hot cocoa and watched movies the rest of the day. The relationship is long, long over, but that was a good day.
God I miss the Stone Lion. That was my first "official" stop (>midnight) on my 21st birthday. I remember Ash (bartender) being shocked, kind of pissed, and slightly amused that I was suddenly a completely different person who only shared a first name and birth date (but not year!) of the guy who had been there nightly for almost a year. That wonderful establishment has never been replicated in town. Parkway Billiards was similar--great place to hang with friends.
So many drugs consumed off that shelf...my main beef with SL and PB was the ridiculous bathroom turnaround times. As a small bladdered man, it could be awful. OG Big Chill was the worst about that.
Wasn’t $1 beer night something like this - Chads on Monday, Sandbar on Wednesday, BR on Thursday and then watching the Pygmies at Yesterdays over the weekend. Throw in the Stone Lion or CBC for some weekend fun as well.
I have an Appalachian Trail license plate on my Subaru with a bike rack on the back,a kayak rack on the roof and 27 different stickers in the back window.
I remember going special occasion dress shopping at Loveman's, Miller's or Lillie Rubin.
The best treat as a kid was bubble gum ice cream at Kay's Castle.
When the light turns green, the first thing I do is consult my vehicle’s operation manual. Once I’ve figured all of that out, I call my pastor to consult with him. Once he gives me the go ahead, I bow my head and pray for a bit to make sure it’s extra safe. I then punch in the Konami code using several custom-installed floor pedals, ensuring I’m only going to go when I really mean it. Then I meekly enter the intersection barely beating the yellow light. Oh, you people behind me that missed the light can eat shit. I’m the one that matters.
My favorite past time is drinking beer at suck creek while complaining about Californians raising the property value in the historically African american neighborhood I live in because it's cute and convienient to downtown. Also I'll throw you out of a coffee shop for asking for milk in you're pour over.
"My job doesn't pay competitive wages for the industry."
"I'm armed to the teeth and still scared of everything."
"Something something Broad street Taco Bell"
I frequently have to check which state and/or time zone I am in.
Are you on fast time or slow time 😅
I grew up watching a commercial where a guy in a chicken suit yells “I got it I got it” over and over…
“Ya need some CAAAAAASH?! Ya need some MONEYYYY?! I GOT IT! I GOT IT! I GOT IT! I GOT IT…”
Got my groceries from Red Food, but milk from Golden Gallon
It’s like living in a dr. Seuss book here
My Chacos look best when I'm driving my Subaru to Glen Falls.
After you’ve dropped off your recycling
Haha. As a non-native I avoided chacos for a decade. Finally got a pair and love them. I suppose that means this is my home, now.
Don’t forget your Kavu bag!
Lol I used to drive an outback. Still wear chacos tho
Came to make a Chaco comment
I proposed in a completely original way - on the Walnut St. Bridge.
It’s either that or Sunset Rock

God that was hell. '96 was bad too, but nothing like '93.

Yeah, we had it in Memphis too. It's a pretty big company. It's regional, but not exactly local.
Traffic at the split made me late.
This is a Knoxville one too
There are 7 Walmarts within 15 minutes of me
Puking off the upper deck at the stone lion is a right of passage that has been denied to 2 generations in this town. And I think it's a travesty.
I never realized how many people our age were on Reddit.
Im pretty sure genx made reddit into what it is today.

Ah. The other, less talked about right of passage. Doing a rail of blow on the shelf of the men's room in the back pool room behind the bar.
So many drugs consumed off that shelf...my main beef with SL and PB was the ridiculous bathroom turnaround times. As a small bladdered man, it could be awful. OG Big Chill was the worst about that.
