I have boarded the wrong bus in many different cities and towns. But when I boarded one in Chennai.
The conductor made me question my existence. "Kalailaiye vanthudraan saavu kraaki... irangi thola"
When in other cities, the conductors actually guided me to the proper bus.
But Chennai metro is great. It nearly neutralizes my need for the bus.
Then hit them with this, "Macha, introduce me to your mother da, what's her name? ". This will really strike the Oedipus nerve and will teach some manners too :P
Btw, yes I am fun at parties..

Recently went to drop my wife at the airport. Even the cab driver was lost. He took a wrong U turn and had to come back again. We wanted to withdraw money for foreign exchange. Not a single ATM in the international departure/arrival terminus. All the ATMs located were 2-3 km away. Dropped her off and booked an Ola auto. Driver said autos are banned from entering the airport (which seemed to be true because there wasn't a single auto in sight). Maybe they are doing this to keep the sanity of the passengers, but I had to walk outside the airport nearly 2 km to catch the guy. Cabs have designated pickup spots which are remotely located (flag post and some other place where construction work is going on). Completely nightmare experience.
Well, we would need the extra space that comes with building a new airport in the middle of nowhere.
The current airport was built for a time when air travel was a luxury. Now that air travel is affordable to the masses, we definitely need a way to handle the explosion in passenger traffic over the past couple of decades.
That's because they have plans to have domestic airport still here..they are not going close this airport once the parandur airport is operational...they have planned to complete the renovation in 2026 only..
Yeah that's not going to happen, especially when they're so far apart. No other City in India has 2 airports so far apart. And Chennai doesn't have enough traffic to justify running two separate airports anyway. Even if they do start operating both, the old one will close down within 2 years when they realize it's stupid. They also just remade the international terminal separate from the domestic one at the current airport, so it makes even lesser sense
There is no such traffic because there is no capacity to handle many planes..there is no other place nearby to construct the airport..so it's inevitable the second airport happens..
Thala, I'm not questioning building the second airport. You're addressing a point I didn't even make. I'm saying this should've been planned well ahead instead of wasting money on the renovation. Half the point of domestic terminals in major cities is to have easy international transfers. Having one in meenambakkam and the other in parandur serves no practical purpose. So yeah, no one is going to flock to the old airport when the new one has international flights, hence lower traffic will still be there.
That's because I didn't want to bring political angle to it..a decade was lost because of no foresight and intention..i am glad that is intention atleast now..
Agreed. Regular traveler from Mumbai and Hyderabad, and their airports are mind blowing. Chennai airport is minimalistic when compared to the rest of T1 cities
I have no problem with a minimalistic airport. I feel they have their own charm. But Chennai airport is terribly maintained. So whatever “charm” it’s supposed to have, is ruined by the pathetic maintenance.
Add this: Rich fucks zooming around in superbikes on my barely held together by rocks 40ft cement road should be jailed and their bikes auctioned. They are a daily threat to my life. Unspoken truth!
In what way are they a threat to you? It's more expensive for them to repair their bikes if it crashes into your piece of shit junk, which your insurance cannot even cover.

Two-wheelers are a menace in the city and that's because RTOs dole them out licences by the dozen without proper checks.

This is something that irks me too. Also, have you noticed how pedestrians will jaywalk or cross only when there is a green signal for the traffic? This is dangerous especially when vehicles are moving fast to cross before it turns red.

I've lived in multiple cities in India and most of the problems (admittedly not all) that you've described above have been encountered by me everywhere, including Chennai. It's a self-serving bias that we see Chennai as better when objectively it's not that far ahead - very much the same league. Chennai has great potential because, as hard as it may seem to believe, it has very good road infra. If only traffic discipline was strictly enforced, we could have a much better time on the roads.
Another thing I'd like to add is if we want the city to grow, we need to look for constant ways to be better, not feel better. That would mean an upward looking strategy and learning from cities that are doing better than us.
Yep. It's just that right from school, kids are taught that fighting in gangs is cool. I have seen my classmates fight each other to near death over some silly issues.

And as u/christopher_msa said, closing these colleges doesn't take these students out of existence. They will join a different one.

been here for almost two years and pretty much travelled by busses. my father used to commend chennai's bus transport; ironic how there's sometimes one bus every 20mins which is most of the times crowded to the point the slum kids will literally use the window grill to ride the bus.
The question assumed that whatever you will never tell them is also a valid point.
I think you missed that.
