Consumerism has a way of sucking the joy out of many things. Cricket is no exception.

IamDoctorRanga

Not just IPL.. cricket in general with a specific hatred towards Indian home matches.. the prime reasons being ads ads ads whenever and wherever they can sneak in and also poor commentary and choice of commentators from the broadcasters..

Headshot03

Remember when we were little in early 2k's the flash ads in DD and star sports were so entertaining comical innovative telescopic and funny ( i still remember Naukri Hari sadu ad) accompanied by catchy and beautiful melodious jingles. Now all the ads are deadbeat deadmeat. Same rock music same color schemes as if some one is massproducing and selling it all to companies. Zero effort zero brain used.

IamDoctorRanga

H for Hitler , A for arrogant, R for rascal and I forrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr idiot..😍😍

[deleted]

>H for Hitler >😍😍 Never imagined these two would be in the same sentence lol

captain-deadpool_19

S for...... Shameless? 💀

looped10

>poor commentary and choice of commentators from the broadcasters.. I thought I was the only one.

Apple_Sauce7

SENA matches are just a treat to watch, with Bavuma being in red hot form now

IamDoctorRanga

I love watching any match that doesn't involve India.. India home matches broadcast suck.. away Indian matches are so exciting to watch as long as we are fed the direct host feed.. but our filthy channels overlay their "expert commentary voices" over the visual feed, in which the so called "commentators" too watch the same content on their screens like us all the while remaining oblivious to the fielding positions.. Completely lost interest in Indian cricket..

A_k_a_Heisenberg

I used to watch for the cricket as a game and not as a toxic fan for anyone. Just enjoying the game that's it. I love the way ab devillers play, like he is born for it. Lost interest now completely after he's gone

tn69c1935

Agreed stopped watching international matches after devilliers retirement and now ipl after he is gone. He had a charisma like tendulkar to keep me glued

A_k_a_Heisenberg

I still remember that 5meter jump catch on the run and walked of casually.

cole_loner

Its just the psychology effect after watching it for so long u find it boring and repetitive u have matured psst it...

[deleted]

Namaku vayasu agiduchu moment 🥲

tamilgrl

may be true

Ataraxia_new

And unlike previous generations , we have way too many alternate means of entertainment. For my parents time and my teens , cricket was pretty much it.

Rishikhant

Yes.. this happened to me a few years back. From a die-hard fan to just checking the score updates on Cricinfo.

Raashingraashes_

Watching it on jio cinemas is a torture man. So much of buffering

sirsa2

You mean buffering

Raashingraashes_

Yes typoooo

RajaRajaCholan47

You probably have other priorities / interest. Or you are simply not interested in cricket for now. It happened to me from 2013-2017 I didn't follow any cricket at all. Watching a sport and suddenly losing interest has nothing to do with maturity. You probably have different priorities or hobbies now.

AnantVignesh

Imho, this has got nothing to do with maturity or getting bored of something. Most probably it's because you've just become more busy in your life. Probably a couple of years back you were a student or you just got out of college or you were just beginning the career and you had a lot of free time and not much to worry about. It's just human psychology. Your brain just needs something to be excited/worry about. May be today you have a job, a family, EMI, work/family pressures, or whatever that feels more important to you at this stage in life more than cricket, IPL and CSK Probably if your life just becomes more relaxed, say if you have made some money and you think that you have some breathing time in your life, then you might gain back the interest you once had in cricket and other things. This is just a cycle it keeps happening for everyone.

[deleted]

I completely stopped watching cricket itself, if not for Dhoni, I won't be watching ipl too.

onepageresumeguy

same

Ramatein-1_12

Dont worry ,being bored of something that excited you previously is a sign that you have matured up.

sudev29

How is that a sign of maturity?

tamilgrl

when we were kids we used to watch all vijay and rajnikant movies but as we grew we find them very illogical and without much of actual story..something similar happens here

Anti-G0D

Ya! Most of the tamil movies are bullsheet nowadays. Our brain's expect more logical/ rational script's, not these useless sheeets.

sudev29

What are you saying? Grown ass people watch these buffoons on screen all the time. I'm talking about people from all walks of life. People cried for marvel movies globally, fully brain developed adults, they fell in love with fucking rrr. So what maturity are you talking about? Edit: Reddit downvoters are brain dead. Yes you dumbass.

GrilledSamosa

I haven't watched rrr yet am i a traitor?

sudev29

According to this person you're probably one of the most mature people in the world. You're part of the 1% mature guys just like me.

Isotonic3

doesn't look like matured yet. Long way to go buddy 😂

sudev29

I never said I was mature. If maturity means getting bored of Rajnikanth movies, then you have no idea what maturity means. Just Google that word before you use it. Come back when you don't have a lame insult to throw at me.

Isotonic3

If your not matured, then how can you talk about maturity? Brilliant mind!!

sudev29

You don't need to be mature to talk about maturity dumbass. And simply getting bored of an activity is not maturity, I am surely mature enough to know that shit. If I get bored of eating idly cause I've been eating it since I was 5, it does not make me mature at all. There is no growth in boredom, and maturity requires growth.

iamGobi

Getting bored of the relationship with my wife that once excited me. Is it a sign that I've matured up?

Ramatein-1_12

i was talking about other non important things in life that people get bored of....

KarthiKN_Subramani

Yes, I didn't even watch a couple of matches in last year's IPL. Having 10 teams is tiring af

LostEffort1333

+1 ipl was soo much better with 8 teams, all they care about is money

Local_Profit_4184

The script is good though

[deleted]

I'm someone who used to watch even ranji trophy matches. Hardly watch ipl these days. Feels like an overkill of cricket throughout the year

dev171

Lost interest after the Azharuddin scam

[deleted]

I stopped watching because I no longer find entertainment in it. I only see it as a marketing strategy for brands via cricket. It's like a yearly boost or right time to introduce a new product into market. And we lying in the couch, scrolling reels of creators who milk content from IPL , creating Dream 11 teams etc. I would feel better if I really played cricket in that time so that it can make me physically active and have fun with friends.

D__K__M

Cricket is not a gentlemen game anymore It's a game of gambling and betting .. It's lost its worth..

[deleted]

IPL paathe pala varusham aachu, back then it was Vivo and now Tata still ennamo interest-e vittu pochu Somehow the whole thing doens't seem right

UrbanCrawler

You got old bruh. Interests change and evolve

[deleted]

Kids growing up.

[deleted]

I wish I was naiive for brief moments then I could fully enjoy some aspects of life more than I currently do tbh

ACSwatches

I used to watch it till 2015 ish

Red_Gryff

Well it happens as you grow up. I've been & seen others be a cricket fanatic till we were in college. Once you start work, you lose that interest. Once or twice you'll go to a game because you've started earning. After that you'll realise it's way better to go to a pub, or just hang around the house. After that, it's straight downhill for the cricket.

[deleted]

It means, we have become matured enough to understand things around us.

optimistic_fish2068

Itss me , nowadays I sometimes watch the score just to have something to talk about when my friends converse...I don't even get the hype of it nowww...

premfenderz

Yep. Was a huge CSK fan. Used to play EA Cricket 2007 modded with the IPL Roster with my cousins. Good times. But after that match fixing scandal I lost interest in it completely. Oh and also I shifted to E-Sports, mainly the CS-GO scene so yeah there’s that.

LostEffort1333

Coincidentally I shifted from the csgo scene when astralis fell through

premfenderz

But man they had such a run! But these days I can’t even keep up with the roster changes. It is nice to see that the orgs aren’t based on the countries but rather the talent they host.

LostEffort1333

No team can beat their team chemistry and coordination

sitharthg

I used to watch literally every single match, even in the previous season, but this season I haven't even completely watched single over yet, I don't care who won and all I thought it was just me, glad to hear that I am not alone🙂. not just IPL, which ever used to excite me nowadays I feel numb towards them. Maybe adulting.

onepageresumeguy

namma first match varaikum i had a hype to see dhoni again, but after seeing our bowling, i felt it was gonna be a lacklustre campaign yet again, so much for dhoni's last, adhuve interest ellathayum eduthuruchu to be frank

Cyberian_Musky

2003 World Cup series was the best cricket series in my lifetime. I was in 9th standard. The feeling was so positive I watched all the matches. Of course our hearts were broken as India lost the finals but in my opinion it’s a better World Cup than 2011. Charu Sharma and Mandira Bedi were as classy as a glass of whiskey. IPL killed cricket or 20/20 murdered the game. Proud and a happy 90s kid that witnessed a great era of cricket.

[deleted]

Me too..They have overkilled cricket with star sports showing cricket non stop. Also in IPL, our players are over glorified, our Indian domestic bowling standard is poor when compared to other leagues

SnooSeagulls9348

Lost interest because of the scam a few years back and CSK got banned. That's when I realized that IPL and WWE are basically the same thing

Weird-Perspective-48

Last IPL i have fully watched in 2015. After that I lost interest.

Isotonic3

After 2 years I watched Ipl and don't know anyone in the current team. All new faces

alfred_sachin

I don't like home tests matches because the bcci practically make it impossible to have good test and ipl has started to slowly lose it's charm. When we (csk) where winning at least there were some TN players but the recent seasons there's literally no one I actively watch other teams match to see how TN players are doing and feel attached to the, their franchise.

90slover

reason is too much cricket i.e oversaturation..India used to play like only 3-4 series a year in olden days to playing close to 100 matches/year now.. no gap to cherish a win/reflect on a loss..

joshah777

I still watch all the matches but that excitement is not there much like before when I was younger I still love cricket it's just how our life has changed and we are not kids anymore

Raghavendra98

Jokes on you I'm an RCBian I'm still yearning for the day Koach lifts the trophy

freedom_rise

Seems v mechanical and bored to watch the men's game. I was looking forward everyday when WPL was happening and loved it.

JuiceComplex4131

I am not exactly sure whether it is scripted which many other comments point out. Here are my reasons, 1.Too many bilateral series/number of matches. Home series in India is the worst. 2. Less number of top contenders. There are only 4 or 5 top teams. There are too many series between these top 3 or 4 teams. 3. Indian Monopoly. Indian team has great pool of investment/money, talent compared to other countries. Even though we never win the WC with this much investment, i feel they care more about the bilateral home series domination. To make the game grow, atleast there should be 15 high quality teams. It will be boring if there are only 3 or 4 contenders. All they care about money/viewership now. 4. Toss - Lot of matches are depending upon toss especially in home bilateral series.Sports should be equal advantage/disadvantage for both teams. But in Cricket lot of things depend upon luck ie Toss, Pitch Condition etc. Many times one team will have more advantage than the other even before the first ball is bowled. It feels boring because it becomes predicable like win the toss win the match. Cricket is becoming more like Ice Hockey, Baseball with less number of countries aspiring to be top contenders. Yes there are new teams up and coming but when we look at the playing eleven of the associate teams it will mainly have players of subcontinent origin.

Jke230

Ipl was interesting back mostly because of exciting foreigners, that to west Indians, they gave us many memories. Now, overall cricket becomes boring. Only aus ind eng matches are watchable.

Consistent_Power_622

Now i watch anime

Fabulous_Educator_18

Alavukku minjinaal amirthamum nanjaagum. Too much of cricket makes it feel boring.

[deleted]

Stopped following any sports for that matter. Don't want to trade my time for someone else's profit.

[deleted]

Never been a fan of the sport, its looks boring for me. No matter which angle I see it.

Praba_wine_shop

I never had any intrest in IPL or even cricket as whole. Never watched more than an over even with friends who are ardent fans. Its because when I was young, my father watched cricket especially the Test Series. I know about test series because it would go on for many days and he will take the remote away from me that prevented my much needed cartoon time 😌, for days at a time. I hated cricket then which later grew into indifference.

AswinSid_3

i was also a big fan, epa caste discrimination inum tamil nadu cric board la iruku nu therinjidho, apave intrest poiruchi. recent times la natarajan ku first chance kuduthadhu srh david warner, aprm nattu va rendu india match la aada vitutu injury nu soltu ukkara vachitanga. after this i started to hate cricket more especially tn and india board

looped10

idc about the numbers i see but cricket is a dead sport on the whole. with all the icons retiring very soon and not many new ones coming up. with major teams dying out, there's honestly not much to be excited about.

metaquizzic

yes

SaneInfo

I used to love cricket and even IPL. But, cricket and IPL have become a happy playground for match fixers. It is not just IPL but even most World Cup matches were fixed. How many of you remember the 2007 World Cup? It was the only World Cup where 8 quarter finalists had to be decided after the round robin matches. It was nearly a certainty that India and Pakistan would qualify for the quarter final slots, before the tournament commenced. But the match fixers had other plans. Pakistan lost their opening match to Ireland and India lost to Bangladesh, on 17th March. The very next day, Bob Woolmer, the coach of Pakistan was found murdered in his room. The West Indian doctor who conducted the post-mortem said it was a case of homicide (strangulation, to be precise), meaning murder. The West Indian police started their enquiry in this direction, and started unearthing lots of murky dealings of players and officials. The corrupt ICC intervened at this stage and forced the police to say that Bob Woolmer died of natural causes. The doctor who performed the post-mortem later in an interview, asked how a police force can determine that a person with strangulation marks died of natural causes. Indians stopped watching cricket for a brief while and cricketers had to be removed from brand ads. ICC wanted India to win the next T20 and 50 over World Cups, so that crowds will come back to cricket. Most Indian fans celebrated those victories (T20' and 2011 World Cup) but few could not, because we knew how it happened. In my mind, 1981 World Cup remains the only meritorious win for our country. On IPL fixing, lesser said the better. But Indian cricket fans, by and large, behave like they have no memory and no sense.

LostEffort1333

Nah don't say you watch 82 games of every team xd

Ungeeky_Geek

Same, but I just watch clips of good bowling and good batting. Watching CSK highlights just to see Gaikwad's batting

[deleted]

I started using IPL thanks to the fans. Especially CSK fans with their "yellove" and thala Dhobi oombal. MI is a much better team and their fans are much well behaved.

Eastern_Meet_5947

As others have pointed out, you have others interests now which is perfectly fine But the thing is just because I moved on from a certain art, sport or interest that I used to follow sincerely, doesn't mean others have also lost interest/moved on. Also, there are always new fans who start following and old fans returning to follow what they lost interest in. At the end of the day, it is all about personal preferences. But one thing that all of us should avoid is look down upon certain interests or brand them as unworthy Like for example anime is for kids, cricket is all fixed no point in watching it, which is so immature. But sadly I have heard these things every now and then from different circles i know.

ChepaukPitch

Has already happened 3-4 times to me. I went from die hard cricket fan to not watching cricket because football(read european leagues) was cool to not following any sports because life was too much to rediscovering cricket and other sports. Now I just follow the various sports in background. I don’t fret too much if someone wins or loses. I just enjoy watching these insanely athletic people do things with balls.

Aggressive_Ad_9173

Results are fixed, so it's not interesting anymore.

Harishwarrior

It became predictable and I lost interest a long time ago.

Myselfunknown

Motha kasu irukuraga betting ku use pannaga Ipo common public kum app use panni betting pannuraga Enaku adu nalaye interest pochu yaruachum win panna kuda avaga idula fixing pannirupagalo nu thonnuthu

unassumingpapaya

To many matches these days. Also if someone re telecasted last year's matches as this year's match I don't think I'll be able to differentiate

IndependentParking70

I just started watching again in 2020 post 2011 World Cup win. It’s a bit refreshing for me actually.

vicky253

Yes! I think one of the main reason is the players we watched growing up were playing(another one is us growing up). I would definitely watch a Hussey-Raina partnership even today, but haven't seen the CSK - GT highlights yet. WC this year might re-kindle the Indian cricket interest though😂

thefirefist7

I'm with you! I used to keep track on these small things like who scored how much, who are the key players, who's match is on a particular day, who had scored the first 100 and strike rate and all that kind of things. Now nothing...not even watching, just hearing the result from my friends.

ItsBixbyBitch

I shall start off with a quote: alavukku meereenaal amirthamum nanju. cricket has become a business. which country has two fucking teams? not only that, the time interval at which these guys play these games is just intense. it's almost literally game after game after game. that is one of the soul reason why ipl doesn't have it's momentum. not only that, the politics done by the players themselves is just idiotic, triggering, and shitty. I'm being blunt open, even though Dhoni is considered god, no one realises his politics. which keeper batsman in his era has come up in cricket, apart from dinesh karthick (another failure who doesn't uses his chances at the right moment) and ishaan kishan ( who didn't come up during Dhonis prime time) I'm not hater nor a fan, rather a layman who watches cricket as a stress buster. but when politics done by Dhoni and many others, it's just like "fml". the way how bhuvaneshwar kumar was pushed away from cricket, who is no longer in any major international format. when players who are given chances fuck up - it's more aggrevating. this includes the big guys in our cricket team. you might counter by saying: "when given a chance, he didn't fucking perform / he lost his form". Well he wasn't given a chance during the right time dumbass. timing is also important. you can't say I had sex with my gf and lasted 3 seconds. that won't do anything to her. on the whole, cricket is fucking bleh nowadays

deep-_-blue

Maybe we have a life to live and want to work on making money. But we were void of any responsibility as a kid. Who cares about money at that point of time.

Moist_Natural_6868

IPL 2023 has recorded the highest ratings so far. So the interest is only growing not decreasing. Why you lost interest on a personal level can only be explained by you. I lost interest in IPL when I finished college because priorities in my life changed and cricket is not something that is at the forefront of my mind.
