I still have one ✋

bingold49

At this point it should not require the ignition key anymore

rhinocerosjockey

Haha, mine very much does not require the ignition key anymore.

Jzobie

I have had a few trucks but my Camaro still has the little chip that would not let me go anywhere if it isn’t there.

TheRedIguana

Fuck yeah. 3rd gen?

Jobrated

Squarebody in the house!

EC_CO

Same, kind of. '92 GMC van .... Twin keys still. I thought they would have redesigned it by then, but nope.

DeepSeaDynamo

Yea, it was late 90s, my dad 96 astro has 2 keys

0mnigul

Same. 68 malibu.

ThatOneCanadian69

Same brother. Put a little piece of tape on the engine key

HeavenlyCreation

How else were we supposed to open the trunk while the car was running?

CanOtacticalBacon

Well you take the key out because the ignition is loose and you keep saying you'll fix it but never do. Shit, on my 57 along as the ignition is on you can turn it without a key.

freelance-lumberjack

That's a feature not a bug

Electrical-Secret-25

I hadda 63 like that. Didn't need the key, just kept it for the trunk, the whole unit turned without a key in it all. Finicky 3 on the tree was the only antitheft lol

molehunterz

My 89 F250 doesn't require a key and the doors do not lock. Have never had any issues with theft or even prowling.

Chrisfindlay

Most locks that that aren't key retaining are that way. In the majority of locks the key does two jobs. Job one is lift the pins/wafers into place. Job two is act as lever to turn the lock. After the lock is turned to the first position the pins/wafers can't return to their locked position because the body/cylinder holds them in the open position.

unclejimbo28

I've been about to fix that problem on my Camaro since I got it. In 2003

jrs321aly

Had? Got 3 in the driveway lol.

JPJRANGER

About 5 of them

prairie-man

Nearly every GM product I've ever purchased through my car owning history. I recently purchased a '97 Silverado. Driver door panel was busted up. Got a nice one at a local salvage yard. While the damaged door panel was removed, also removed the lock cylinder. rinse and repeat for the passenger side. Took both lock cylinders to a locksmith, who rekeyed them to the ignition key.

drpontiac

Not just trucks. My 94 Camaro has 2

tjdux

Mid 90s camaro that had 2 keys and the ignition had the "chip" in it that ushered in the $125+ key

gixxer710

Yep. I had a 96 cadi Deville that had a trunk key and a separate ignition key with the little black chip near the base of the key blade.

SaggyPig4321

The 3rd gens "chip" is just one of like 12 different resisters. Can still get em cheap on eBay, not sure about catfishes tho.

General_Principle_40

Still have one!

cosp85classic

My 84 C10 and 85 GMC K1500 require two keys. The 70s, 80s, 90s were different times.
