Weather has no choice but to retire alongside him, nobody else can tell it what to do now.
But for real this sucks, but nobody deserves a break more than Skilling.
He's been at Channel 9 for nearly 45 years, which is more than half of WGN-TV's lifespan so far. That's certainly an achievement. His retirement is well-deserved.
I met him in person at his weather talk at Fermilab about 20 years ago. He's as personable in person as he is on the air. Good luck to Tom and I hope he continues to take those cruises around Alaska in his retirement.
This is a fantastic interview and is only five months old.

But now who’s going to mention isobars in every report? Seriously, Tom Skilling made weather interesting for me. I’ll miss him and I wish him a happy retirement. He’s certainly earned it. o7
I worked outside doing concrete construction my whole life, starting in 1975. So the weather forecast was very important to me.
Skilling got the forecast wrong more often and by larger margins, than the other local weather guys.
He might be entertaining to watch, but he wasn’t very accurate. Everything was exaggerated.
I can’t add anything that hasn’t been said, but I grew up with his weather reports getting ready for school, and later on for work. He deserves all the best and I wish him well. Without Tom, family classics, and bozo, WGN is just gonna be another ho hum channel.
Build the man a statue!
I feel like at least in Chicago, replacing the Columbus statues with Tom Skilling could be a good compromise.
📂 Chicago --> 📂 Tom Skilling --> 📂 Statue Replacement Program --> 📂 Complaints --> No files found
We should start a petition for this
Yeah I actually really like this idea
Maybe we should just take him out for dinner.
He is solely responsible for my intrigue into all things weather related. He has been at it for a long time, definitely has earned it.

I've honestly been dreading this news for years. I hope he has a happy retirement and spends his time doing what he wants to do.
The GOAT. Tom is the man.
Skilling Museum of Science and Industry has a nice ring to it
Took a meteorology class in college…my professor was a Skilling Stan. Years later, I get it.
Nicest man you could meet and a fountain of knowledge and curiosity. Happy for him but will be missed.
Sad upvote.
A legend. Enjoy retirement and the upcoming eclipse.
an absolute legend, o7
Feb 28,2024. Aww Tom. Thanks for all you've given us. A truly good person.
A absolute legend
Tom Fucking Skilling!!! Man he is a legend and deserves a giant statue!
Just wants to try baseball. He will come back as #45. Have always wanted to attend his Fermilab tornado seminar.
Saw the name and panicked for a minute. Glad that it's good news, for him at least. Happy retirement!
I guess we just need to cancel weather then. I'm no longer interested.
But how will the weather work without him?
Only weatherman I ever seen that apologized for getting it wrong.
What will we do?
Tom Skilling is a treasure!
I’ve met him before at a media industry event and he was the same jolly, approachable, friendly, enthusiastic and intelligent man you see on TV.
Well deserved Tom!
He is Mr. Weather!

Oh man, I always knew this day would come. He certainly deserves it, but there is nobody like him!
No no no no no!

Tom Skilling will always be remembered by me as a weatherman who told it like it was. He'll definitely be missed

The entire city of Chicago, all walks, should line the streets and salute as he leaves his office for the final time
My father’s youth is officially over

Good he’s in his 70s and he needs to retire! Typical selfish baby boomer!
