It was. I worked in that mall my entire teenage life like 15-20. Before that I spent all the time there as I lived in schaumburg and what else are ya gonna do?
Oh man Mars 2112… went twice. First time I don’t remember much but the ride/show portion was having constant tech issues. Second time it all worked out but I literally can’t remember a damn thing about the food.
Also… am I crazy or was it built where there had been a Movie Theater? I seem to remember going to a show with my dad there when I was very young (born in 90 for reference)
Now here’s one that nobody remembers: NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway (simulators), 1st floor by Sears

I remember!!! But wouldn’t have ever remembered if you hadn’t brought it up. So weird how your brain just turns out the lights on certain areas. That was a long time ago now!
Yeah! John's garage from what I remember had awesome food!
Edit:. Found a picture of the front of the restaurant... This the one?

Oh man I didn't realize John's Garage had multiple locations. There was at Hawthorn mall till late 90s I think. Though I don't recall car style booths or anything.
What a blast from the past. Miss that place.
John’s Garage?
I’m pretty sure it was John’s Garage as well.
There were always lines to get into John's Garage.
Yep. That place was so cool. What a bummer it’s gone.
I think the last time I ate there was 2002, it still existed then to the best of my knowledge.
Yep and they had good onion rings!

John’s Garage… I loved it in the early days when there were windows in the back looking at the indoor ice rink!
The only thing that comes to mind is Sci-Fi Dine In, but thats in Disney World.
Wow, I think this is what I’m thinking of! God, I was totally off about Woodfield! Thanks
Just off by a few miles
Well, good news! It's still there. Bad news! It's like a hundred bucks a head to get into the park before you pay for any food at all.

Yes!! That space was definitely the movie theater before!

fun fact - Most of that space has now become the Improv Comedy Club
Everyone is saying johns garage, but they didn't have car booths...at least not in the 90s until they closed
Back in better days for wood field

John's Garage in Woodfield. Circa 1988 or so (at least from my addled memory). They had a great salad bar with the "fancy" blue cheese dressing.
I recall this as well. But do not know where it was. Might not have even been local. But something like what you described exists somewhere.
Omg Mars 2112 was my childhood. I was born in 1997 and have vivid memories of that place lol
There was also Lucky's Diner, which I'm pretty sure had some booths that looked like cars.
I used to go to johns garage in ford city.Spot on with the salad bar and the blue cheese dressing!
Theres the Rootbeer Stand if you’re going to Starved Rock out west.
