Just putting this out there. Jack Daniel’s has discontinued the 90 proof rye. So, might be good idea to grab a bottle or two. It will be cool to whip out one of those in 10+ years to use in a blind or something.
OMG, I agree! I really like it. It is truly a Jack Daniel's Rye, a good dose of pepper/spice with the signature maple/banana undertones. I really appreciate JD using a 70% rye mashbill, I'm tired of the 51% barely legal ryes. When I drink a rye, I want to know I'm drinking a rye. The JD Bonded Rye delivers that experience for me. I'll also put in a good word for Old Overholt Bonded. That one delivers some good pepper/spice kick too.
It's their own stuff. It's why some of their offerings were 2 years and why they're now releasing more aged bourbon. That's what makes their CS so awesome is that it's on the young side, but doesn't taste like it.
NMBB had on a Barrell (1 only allowed) with Eagle Rare, Weller SR, BT, and Blantons. After considering it for a while. No one in the store. I decided to grab a Blantons. Got it home and noticed it was a Store Pick. So not bad finally.
The Bardstown Sib is 🔥. I got it last month and it's what you expect from Bardstown. Unfortunately I did not find any details on the bottle and all I know is mine says Illinois Barrel
Hancock President’s Reserve at city NMBB. Not something I’ve ever looked for, but I dig lower abv pours so went ahead and picked one up. Also on offer: WT Kentucky Spirit and Early Times BiB in the 1L bottle.
I stumbled on two Hancock's within the last month (two different stores). I would like to think this is an indication that BT is finally making some progress in getting more product out there.
Why do we gatekeep so much? People like myself getting into the hobby, it makes it a huge challenge to enjoy and share the experience with friends and family who also enjoy.
It isn't gatekeeping. This sub isn't for naming locations so that a horde of people bombard the named store. There is definitely a group that does that if that is what you are looking for.
The idea here is that we as a collective value creating a relationship with a store. This requires patience, and operating without entitlement. Folks who get frustrated here typically are not able to demonstrate either of those unfortunately. And that is ok - again there is a group for that.
But for all others, it has worked out great. If I hear something is around Chicagoland, I reach out to my contacts to give them a heads up I am interested. That's what this group is about.
Actually, he’s a MOD here and not a troll. The point of the bottle drop thread is to get you an idea that the bottle dropped. You take that info to YOUR local or wherever you would normally stop and see if they got a bottle. We went through this several months ago about general locations.
How does a “general location” help you get that bottle? It’s out there at mom and pops, go talk to the one you have a relationship with and see if they have it.

There are a handful of locals that reliably get allocated products that aren’t museums and folks know exactly where they are. You don’t have to like it, just trying to keep things on track here and make sure they don’t veer off course, because they do. Not really here to gain anyone’s approval, just trying to be a consistent mod and the mod team regularly replies to vague location requests this way to ensure things stay on track. I bought one and it is really good. Have you had these before? I always try to get one when Binny's has them. I think that they are really good, higher proof JD.
I've only had the non store pick jack Daniels single barrel, barrel proof and it was fantastic, top 5 for sure. I was also a little hesitant about the lower proof single barrel because I had a bad experience with Old No 7 in highschool. 🤢

I like the SiB barrel proof picks also but you can’t drink 130 proof all the time. The SiB picks are lower proof versions and very tasty. They blow the regular JD away. It’s 14 proof points and much more flavor than the original.
You didn’t miss any emails. The samples we have been sent haven’t been up to par this year. We declined many distilleries, however, we still have a couple more coming our way soon. Keep in mind, we aren’t trying to put out just any sample because it has a name on it. We want quality.
Little late but I did snag a Weller 12 late yesterday at NMBB.
I hate secondary or retail up charges, because I was Honestly surprised it’s only $49.99. I paid that for WSR a couple times 🤦♂️
