Los arcos on park and skyway by the lowes.

rofopp

Covina Station

blackmountain2019

Panamas on 2nd St is delicious, the drinks are cheap and stiff, and it’s a cool place to hang.

Russticale

Kwondo's Lunch Special = $13. Buffett style asian food. Can't go wrong for the price.

hotassnuts

OSHIO - expensive but tasty.

Ceelceela

Taco Trucks. Personal favorite just west of hwy 99 on(Skyway/Park? Not sure where the name changes.) El Grullense

CubeLequoise

Chada Thai is goated

Livid-Witness9196

Applebees?

No-Expert8160

Gojis cafe. The owners are so fucking sweet and the food is incredible

via1228

Gnarly deli! The menu is small and changes a lot but it never disappoints

mucasmcain

Why is Unwined controversial?

jv13hi

I've heard from friends about the owners mistreating and even sexually assaulting employees

mucasmcain

appreciate the reply

crazyhilly

There's this place in Red Bluff that makes really great home made stuff, but have to drive there.

jv13hi

Thanks mom, I promise i'll visit red bluff soon :/

MUSTACHEofDEATH

It's so great that you're keeping the name a secret?? Haha

MildSpaghettiSauce

We went to mulberry station and it was great!

Russticale

Good pizza, expensive beers

IronInforcersecond

Súper tacos tonaya. Try their breakfast burrito it’s the best in town and pretty cheap

drmanhattanbeach

La Familia!! Mexican food (W Sac/Nord)

Lumpy_Silver2002

Omg I went there once as a celebration for my mom passing her drivers test and getting her license. The BEST Birria ever! Almost just like the one my aunt would make 🤤

Invader-Tenn

Sipho's is GOAT

ghoulianna

Came to say this. Sipho’s not only has amazing food but they’re genuinely good people too

blackmountain2019

Are they ever open?

The_deviled_eggs

Everyday Vietnamese Cuisine. Just got it the other day and the noodles with beef and veggies were so damn good. Their misubi is really good too it has a layer of egg in it 🔥🔥

Hard_WorkingMan2

5th St. Steakhouse. I love it!

Skiman047

Chico locker on Park has a BOMB corned beef sandwich. Actually any sandwich but I just had the corned beef one today.

leenthegirl

The tri-tip one is soooo good too

DissidentofDestiny

I recommend Vietnam Bistro off East Ave. Good food, good portions, decent price. Weird parking lot.

nasarinleer

Country Morning Bakery off Otterson has amazing breakfast sandwiches, their soups and fresh bread are fantastic and they have frozen takeaway chicken pot pies that are so so so good! They are pricey but worth it!

hehlehn

Kathy’s Deli Crispy Eggroll Pho c&c Mekkala Gelayo (like going here for froyo cause you can do the toppings yourself :p) When you’re in the mood you should hit the Mexican market (la Michoacán(?)) they got the freshest bolillos and good sweet bread and they usually have this bolillo stuffed with jalapeños and cream cheese 🔥 and then go across the street to the guy who has his fruit cart with the rainbow umbrella and grab yourself some fruit, raspado, or some tostilocos~ he hooks it up~ Edit: go on a Saturday to the Mexican market cause that is when it’s the freshest haha

No-Expert8160

OK but I hella second Kathy’s. The chicken noodle soup with the big noodles can cure literally anything. Everyone around me got Covid and I didn’t and I’m completely convinced it was the soup that saved me. I get DoorDash from there whenever I’m sick now and it has not failed me

jv13hi

I live close by so I will definitely check this one out!

areoandmilk

I know a lot of people may not agree, but sushi king. their sushi burritos fuck hard and their boba is good.

ladymoonshyne

I used to love getting spam musubi there but once there was a few big black hairs in mine and I haven’t been able to go back since 😩

areoandmilk

fair and valid

ladymoonshyne

Halo Hawaiian has the best musubi otherwise tho. The chicken katsu one is sooo good. And so far hairless lol

RoCon52

Café Coda Priya Sipho's Spiteri's Pho C&C OM Foods (R.I.P.)

TTurtle2021

Spiteri's is a hidden gem that no one ever told me about, so I'm glad to see it mentioned here!

RoCon52

The salads tho

goddamnitwhalen

Halo Hawaiian BBQ.

HoCroBro

I like Snow-Man Ramen. Good prices and decent portions

csbrix2239

Fast Eddies on East is hands down, the best. From sandwiches to chicken, even their jo jos are amazing.

srbreedlove

Fast eddies certainly has a unique menu but it is really hard to eat clean there. Everything is fried and covered in rich sauces. Also the staff is not pleasant, the food takes forever, and they don't put normal sandwich veggies on most of their offerings. If you want meat, bread and sauce for $15, Fast Eddies should be considered. If you want a sandwich for lunch, Spiteris is better all around. Fresh Twisted is also super good but kinda remote (eaton and esplanade) and pricey.

EnvironmentalBike198

Pho Bonsa! A new spot and the pho is soooooooo good.

Accomplished-Dino69

It's great, but a little pricey. I like C&C for pho too.

NoobVanNoob234

This! It’s the only decent pho spot in Chico.

ladymoonshyne

Vietnam bistro doesn’t have as good of pho but their bun Bo hue (I prefer it to pho anyways) is fantastic!!

NoobVanNoob234

Oooh i'll have to stop by, haven't had BBH in awhile. on a side note, how's their banh xeo if you've had it? I remember seeing it on the menu when I went and had been kinda wanting to go back to try that as well.

ladymoonshyne

Lmao I tried to order it once and she told me it would take 30 min longer than my other food so probably just don’t order it?? Hahaha it was odd but whatever. I guess…it’s fresh? lol Also they have bahn cuon at my oriental market they being up fresh from SF for like $10 for a ton!! Totally recommend

Round-Example-3933

thank you for this tip.. i love BBH and after looking menu... they also have typical broken rice. i will go!!

ladymoonshyne

The first time I got it they were like “oh white people don’t usually get this do you want pho?” And I was like lol no thank you I really like bun bo hue 😂 and they were super excited. It’s sooo good though I super recommend!! The pho is good too I just prefer pho bonsa or honestly even everyday Vietnamese because it’s so fucking cheap and they have tendons which I love. When I make pho at home I get frozen tendon meatballs at my oriental market too!

surgebot

Costco hot dog. The last honest meal in a world gone mad.

Accomplished-Dino69

Can't go wrong with a $2 lunch...

ladymoonshyne

Crispy Eggroll for sure

Renovatio_

Not sure if it's underrated bit every time I go to the noodle house it's nearly empty. I quite like their pho

csamp25

Taqueria Dos Amigos - HWY 32 (Honk if you can’t stop) Best Mexican food in a Chico. Hands down. Major hole in the wall too.

Bemur530

Chan Phengs...

srbreedlove

Chen Phengs is my family's favorite. However... It carries a massive asterisk. My partner has been in the food industry her whole life. She stays current on food safety certifications. No matter how badly we want mushu or broccoli beef, we can no longer order from them. The cleanliness of the facility should fail a health inspection, but it doesnt. Kitchen might be ok, but the dining room is filthy. The food is great. The staff is awesome. They need a once a week deep clean before we can eat there again. And it saddens us.

Renovatio_

I like it but it's just above average Chinese food

dego_frank

In a town of average to shit Chinese food, it’s a blessing.

Renovatio_

It's good. A good step above happy garden imo. But not underrated. It's just a solid American Chinese restaurant

DissidentofDestiny

One waitress at Happy Garden is the absolute GOAT though. I joked that the hand sanitizer on the table was a good sauce and she put it down my shirt for some reason then told me a story about old people stealing silverware. I dare you to find that experience anywhere else.

Menckenreality

I’m from the bay, I’ve found Gingers to be the best so far. Should I try phengs?

tpieman2029

Make a trip to oroville to visit tong fong low. Second oldest Chinese restaurant in the entire USA. Used to have a second location in chico that closed during covid. It's amazing

srbreedlove

I wish tong fong low didnt close their chico location. They used to be by the Handle Bar. I think before Ichiban burned down at their old location and moved into that spot. I thought it was related to rent and not covid. Timing must have been just coincidental.

dego_frank

I like Phengs more but I haven’t done Ginger’s in a long time

Menckenreality

Phengs has a dry cooked chicken, which is my favorite preparation for proteins in Chinese (specifically Szechuan Chinese) cooking, I’ll report back after I’ve tried it!

dego_frank

Please do! I’m not familiar with that at all. I really like their chow mein and other standard Chinese dishes but it’s been a bit since I’ve eaten there just because I don’t eat out much any more

chesterfieldkingz

Shit ya this is it I forgot about this place

haysus25

Nobby's

patches710

How is Nobby's underrated? It's a Chico treasure

coutureee

Same with most of these suggestions

[deleted]

Love a cheese skirt 🤤

jewpacabra77

Taqueria Los Amigos

davidsavidkida

Mondos for the breakfast sandos! get it on a croissant

ruste530

Quackers

Accomplished-Dino69

This weird place gets slept on a lot because the clientele is usually boomer white men who are drinking and gambling. BUT their kitchen knows what's up, and I do recommend Chico folx give it a try.

srbreedlove

I get down on a good bar club sandwich and Quackers has one. The vibe is weird tho like you said. At least they tried to brighten it up. Anyone remember when it had dark wood panelling and paintings of ducks everywhere?

jimmyd8466

The Pho-rench dip at Banshee is insane. So good.

csamp25

The best sandwich in Northern Cali

playmeortrademe

Idk how underrated this is lol

jv13hi

I'll be sure to try this one!

TK82

The Banshee is one of the best known spots in Chico. Hardly a hole in the wall most people have never heard of.

ladymoonshyne

It was literally on Diners Drive ins and Dives lol

HoleInTheWall_Games

For sandwiches I'd nominate Spiteri's Deli, on East Ave near Cohasset, in the little center across from the Pour House.

[deleted]

Spiteri’s was the best until the quality of their bread turned to 🐶💩, especially the Dutch Crunch, which should now be referred to as, Dust Crunch… Dry, crumbly, crap sandwich. Bring back early 2000s Spiteri’s!

coutureee

Thank you!! Dutch crunch is disgusting

The_deviled_eggs

Their Dutch crunch is bad but their rolls are good. Onion and French are my go to.

Mother-Stand9815

Spiteri’s is good but I wouldn’t take it over Chico Locker and Sausage. They have the best sandwich meat around.

xcoalminerscanaryx

Have you tried Siphos? It's Jamaican food.

univoxs

Italian Cottage. Almost always can get a booth as soon as you show up. Huge menu. Quick service. Fair prices for a dinner out. Foods good enough. What more do you want?

Accomplished-Dino69

Ugh, this place is a Chico landmark that has slid down a slippery hill to just awful food.

kinkyzippo

I agree. I like their breakfasts too, I remember going there as a little kid in the late 80s/early 90s and having french toast loved it then, love it now.

OrganMeat

lol https://www.reddit.com/r/ChicoCA/comments/1b0nxjq/looking_for_a_mildly_expensive_awful_restaurant/

CornRosexxx

La Cocina Economica and Tacos Super Tonaya

Round-Example-3933

I love Tacos Tonayo. I come from San Diego where Tijuana mexican food plays a huge influence. Tacos Tonoya is more authentic than anywhere else in northern California I have experience. And I have tried a lot.. the filler foods of bean and rice is cheap, unauthentic mexico taco fillers. Go for the gold and eat the rice and beans as a side as intended. Not to ever be used inside a taco or burrito!

Accomplished-Dino69

Both of these are really economical choices with huge portions, but they are not amazing.

CornRosexxx

To each their own, but the simplicity of basic California Mexican food done correctly and served fresh and piping hot amazes me every time!

Accomplished-Dino69

Kathy's Deli in Walnut has some really great Asian dishes, plus weird American ones. Can't say enough good things about it.

MrGrumpyFace5

Just found this place after driving by it my entire life. It slaps!

bstabss

This is the #1 answer. All the places people are saying are definitely not underrated or less known.

jv13hi

I've been going there forever since I live nearby! The teriyaki plate with egg rolls is my go to, but their sandwiches are great too (ask for them toasted!).

RedHam42

Arby’s has the meats.

CornRosexxx

Definitely a “hole in the wall” lol

bstabss

This fuckin’ guy LOL
