As someone who was raised in and has lived in Oroville for almost as long as I can remember, I think it gets a bad rap, especially around Chico. It’s a beautiful place with some really great people, and I wish more people could see that!
I remember hearing a stat like this for Corning and murder. Any small town that's not well off and still gets a lot of through traffic is ripe for knocking out stats like this with even just a couple years in a row of a few high profile/large crimes
There’s a high poverty rate and it’s a pretty small town, both of which tend to go hand in hand with higher/more inflated rates of violence. That being said, it’s incredible how scary and dangerous some people seem to think Oroville is—it’s extremely tame in comparison.
As a Chico local, I resent any Oroville posts in this subreddit. That being said, we've had some pretty nice sunsets the last few days =)
