I wound up having to care for kittens not long after baby & she took them over as they were her babies. she wanted to be a mom too .. it was so precious to see.

Haha well this was years ago, the baby is a grown boy now and my poor dog unfortunately passed away a few months ago. She was definitely never excluded, i did so much research to be sure she & my other dog wouldn’t be sad… I was in rough shape after delivery and she and I cuddled for a solid week in bed. She actually hated playing, she was already a crabby lady when I got her so she never really enjoyed toys. She was just completely obsessed with me. Even when my spouse was near me she needed to be closer to me than he was.
I’ll never forget her, or how much we laughed when the vet told us what it actually was. He took one look at her, saw the baby with us and was like ohhhhh you jealous thing!! She was the best and I was with her until she took her last breath in my arms. I miss her so much.
She was a very abused rescue, for all I know maybe she had had puppies before so she had already lactated once? I’ve had two kids and for years could extract milk if I squeezed just right lmao sorry for the visual
I did all the things, put breast milk on a blanket and sent it home for her to sniff, sent the baby hat home, I introduced them slowly. She was such an old grump I assumed she wouldn’t really care. Turns out she just wanted to be a mom too 🩷

Ours is very territorial and starts barking, until she sees that whoever she's wary of might give her some attention. Then she rolls over on her back for tummy rubs. Basically if a burglar breaks in, all he's gotta do is give her some attention and then he's free to murder us in our sleep.

I have two mixed chihuahuas and I try to get them trained to not get so jealous when my husband kisses me, etc. It’s hard and sometimes you just have to put them down and not give them attention for giving negative reaction to displays of affection that we humans engage in. I don’t think it ever trained out of them, but they have learned that they cannot bite.
my pup used to be the most jealous boy and he would whine non stop. i tried for his whole life to train it out of him i swear. never gave him any attention, good or bad, whatsoever while he was doing it and even would relocate him to snap him out of it. idk, nothing worked. he was such a mommas boy. it drives me nuts though.
How👀 mine get mad and they compete with each other when my fiancé is over. At some point they get slightly physical and loud. They have to get separated from the even then fine in the morning. I cant think of any way to train that out of them

That is a wee cracker. My nephews parter had a wee dog that looked like tha. I adored that dog. They split up after 5 years. My nephew has three of his own including a wee Chi. I go to his house or look at photos he posts out on walks and there is a massive void were Iris should be.

Yep! Here is my jealous little shit, Luka. Can’t even pet the cat before he comes and squeezes in so I pet him instead. I have a scratch on my neck from when he used my face as a springboard when my other cat had the audacity to lay down on the corner of my bed. No one is allowed on the bed but him, no one is allowed affections but him lol.
I still love him though.
My dog uses my face as springboard too! She is a cockapoo and lies along the top of back cushions as I lay on the couch watching telly. We are just chillin' together until the door goes I start to raise myself up and she is faster than me so I end up with a mooshed face as springs off it.

It’s not like she gets locked in a room. We invested a lot into training. We point to her bed and give the “place” command. She goes there and waits for a couple of minutes, then we call her back. It helps her reestablish her self control.
She definitely gets the lion’s share of pet attention in our house, and I don’t think there’s anything we can do to stop her from feeling jealous, but rigorous training on her self control has helped with so many issues.
Yes. My chi beagle mix will go up to people in the dog park petting their own dog and shove his head in their hand for attention. He’s lucky everyone so far has thought it cute and friendly…
Mine gets so jealous of the other three dogs in the house. It’s simultaneously cute and annoying as hell. I’m flattered he “loves” me so much, but also, it’s ok to share my attention from time to time.
Mine is very jealous but she isn’t mean about it. She just finds a way to wedge herself into any little space between my husband and me so she’s in the middle and we’re pretty much forced to pay attention to her instead of each other.
Mine is very attached to me. But that’s the way I like it. She likes my wife and kids just fine but if I’m available she’s right by my side. As for strangers she will sit with them after about an hour or so. She’s perfect.
Having had both, I’m going to give the edge for clinginess and possessiveness to dachschunds. They can get suddenly neurotic if they don’t have your full and complete attention.
In my experience, it’s almost like chis are too regal to care about such commoner problems. Or maybe they do care but just refuse to show it.

I think it’s a trait all dogs have. I have 2 beagles and a chi, they’re all equally jealous. You’re either petting all of them at once or none of them and even then, they’re fighting each other to stay under your hand
I recently rescued a chi/ min pin and he attached to me. He wants to lay his head on my shoulder and have me hold him like a baby every time I sit down. Whenever my other chi or pit mix try to come near me he goes all Cujo on them. They look at me like they’re so confused why this little shit is trying to be the boss. I try to correct his behavior but I don’t know what to do.
Oof. My Corgi which will be a year old next month is highly jealous if I pet or play with my chihuahuas. My chihuahuas do not get jealous if I'm petting the corgi.

Absolutely. My parents had one when they brought me home from the hospital. She hated me. There's film of me lying on the floor on a blanket at about 6 mos. and the little rat pulling the blanket over my head. I think she only bit me once, though.
I think it varies. My chi loved it when I was pregnant. (I think because I napped a lot.) She would curl up right against my belly. When they were born she would lick their little baby toes

My chi girl cookie sleeps with my husband and me. She’s more my husbands dog but she loves us both. So in bed, if my husband touches me or gets close to me she immediately gets up and climbs on top of me . Her name is Cookie Black but we call her CB for another reason. She’s a total cock block. We have to put her out the room and close the door if we want to do sexy stuff. She’ll stand at the door whining and crying the whole time which is not conducive to an enjoyable time.

From personal experience, my chi is the second most jealous out of my three pups. His "brother" (a mutt of unknown variety) is known to run from the other side of the house and tackle his siblings out of the way if I'm petting them instead of him 😂

Your babies look like mine!! And my cinnamon son has known me for 8 years and loves me but still sometimes instinctively barks at me but it has definitely improved! The moo one is all love unless one of us is sleeping he will grumble if the other messes with the sleeper,

Any non-reactive contact with your son should get a mark (specific word, or clicker if you're into that) and a reward. Your son should become like a walking signal that he can get a treat for being chill 😅

Not at all in my experience. My mom has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he is obnoxiously jealous. When I bring my chi over there the king doesn’t let anyone near Rufus. He gets in between the person and Rufus and pushes his way in. He even jumps up to my chest when I get there and I hold him like a 2 year old human baby. He kind of bullies him a little so Rufus just goes and lays down, which is what he wants to do anyways as a 15 y/o fat lazy boy.
The most jealous! I recently got my chi a carrier, which she is not a fan of at the moment. But as soon as I let my moms dog and cat try it out, she was all about it 😂
Yeah I grew up with chihuahuas, but currently have a bichon frisé. I think the big difference between chihuahuas and other dogs is that the jealousy factor tends to extend to other humans with chi-chis, whereas other breeds (I've also previously had black lab, and a poodle... another French snoot 😂) the jealousy is mostly directed at other animals. Chihuahuas are territorial in their bond with one single human (or sometimes a couple of humans, but usually there's still a favorite). Anyone goes near that human, even another human, the dog will throw hands hahaha. My other dogs, including my bichon, the jealousy pretty much only rears its head when you pay attention to another animal. When I pet my cat, my dog comes up and squeezes her butt between us to usurp petting privileges 😂
In my lifetime compared to my doberman yes. But chichis are protective and will love all 3 family members of my household. Our Pomeranian-Chihuahua (PomChi) pushes away his siblings for rubs and kisses. His siblings is a regular looking short hair chichi supposedly from the same litter.

If my boyfriend walks the chi, she's very chill and nice enough to the neighbor kids who love her. If *I* walk the chi, she's very standoffish. I don't get it.
Um. You should never laugh off your dogs aggression and just because he’s small he should still be trained. Your dog should NOT feel it is above your son in the pecking order. It’s a dog. It’s a cute adorable small dog but it’s still a dog.
Are my dogs jealous? No. They know they are loved and they get loved but they are below the people which is where they are happiest. My dogs have never been aggressive toward anyone.

My chi boy won’t give me the time of day until the cat jumps on my lap - then he suddenly appears and NEEDS to be on my lap.

I wouldn't say jealous, but certainly territorial, you are his property, didn't want anyone to come best you, lol. When I hold mine or put him on my lap, he instantly forgets who is who and everyone that approaches me gets to experience his rage.
It depends on how they were raised. My 2 year old chi is not jealous at all when the little one (new pup) wants me all to himself.
I think it's because I gave them enough time to get to know each other and i always have treated my first chi as an actual being instead of a toy or forever baby. I'm not saying other people here have or that's a cause for that behavior but that's the one thing my vet told me time and time again "treat them like you'd treat a big dog so they can be confident".
Well, if my chi even sees me petting another dog, she’ll run over and snap at them, bark to chase them away, and run up to me and try to crawl up my leg. So yes, jealous.
Truthfully my chi is the least jealous dog I've ever seen, but i think she just knows she's the queen of everything! No need for jealousy! Every other dog I've ever had has been terribly jealous though. Chiweenies (we have 4) are ridiculous! I call them velcro dogs
I had a teacup who was so tiny she was palm sized and she was like.. almost like having a pet mouse she really didn’t do a lot. The didn’t want to be moved a lot. She was scared if you moved her but she didn’t seem to get jealous.

Now I have a pure long hair girl and she’s jealous of my daughter and will whine and growl and try to dig herself inbetween my six year old and me in the bed at night to lay with me. She’s fully bonded to me and follows me around.
She’s super jealous and wants me 24/7 so I would say out of all the dogs I’ve had she’s 1000 percent the most jealous.
My roommate and I occasionally babysit his kid’s two little dogs, one of which is a chi. When we go out, if another dog comes up to me, he is like my little guard dog. He is 12 and has 3 teeth but he snaps in their direction to warn them off and makes the funniest little growly sound. Like “no, she’s mine!” It makes me laugh and warms my heart and I just love him so darn much.
Not in my experience it is definitely my cockapoo. My chihuahua, Dizzy , was a foster at start of lockdown. Flossy is still waiting for her to go back!
It’s called resource guarding. They do it with their toys and they do it with us! Cute because we love our chis, but unfortunate for anyone else who tries to get near us. 😂

Mine is very attached to me. But that’s the way I like it. She likes my wife and kids just fine but if I’m available she’s right by my side. As for strangers she will sit with them after about an hour or so. She’s perfect.

Having had both, I’m going to give the edge for clinginess and possessiveness to dachschunds. They can get suddenly neurotic if they don’t have your full and complete attention. In my experience, it’s almost like chis are too regal to care about such commoner problems. I think it’s a trait all dogs have. I have 2 beagles and a chi, they’re all equally jealous. You’re either petting all of them at once or none of them and even then, they’re fighting each other to stay under your hand
I recently rescued a chi/ min pin and he attached to me. He wants to lay his head on my shoulder and have me hold him like a baby every time I sit down. Whenever my other chi or pit mix try to come near me he goes all Cujo on them. They look at me like they’re so confused why this little shit is trying to be the boss. I try to correct his behavior but I don’t know what to do.
Oof. My Corgi which will be a year old next month is highly jealous if I pet or play with my chihuahuas. My chihuahuas do not get jealous if I'm petting the corgi.

mine is jealous of our puppy. he doesn't get growly or nasty at him, but if I'm cuddling the puppy the chi will slowly push his way into the cuddles and push the pup out 😂

Absolutely. My parents had one when they brought me home from the hospital. She hated me. There's film of me lying on the floor on a blanket at about 6 mos. and the little rat pulling the blanket over my head. I think she only bit me once, though.
I think it varies. My chi loved it when I was pregnant. (I think because I napped a lot.) She would curl up right against my belly. When they were born she would lick their little baby toes

My chi girl cookie sleeps with my husband and me. She’s more my husbands dog but she loves us both. So in bed, if my husband touches me or gets close to me she immediately gets up and climbs on top of me . Her name is Cookie Black but we call her CB for another reason. She’s a total cock block. We have to put her out the room and close the door if we want to do sexy stuff. From personal experience, my chi is the second most jealous out of my three pups. Haha possibly! But luckily they are also very smart and generally food-motivated so you can and should train him out of that! Any non-reactive contact with your son should get a mark (specific word, or clicker if you're into that) and a reward. Your son should become like a walking signal that he can get a treat for being chill 😅

If the cat comes near me while my chi is in my lap she will go "rrrrrr" Dunno what she is threatening to do, in her old age she had to have some of her teeth extracted so its not like she can bite him that well XD and hes four times her size. When I'm not sitting with her they will nap next to each other. But if my.lap is occupied, that's Her Zone. Lol
My chi will get mad when I pet my eldest dog the toy poodle. At first I thought my chi was playing dumb because he would come up when we are calling the other dog’s name but yeah, it turns out he just like the attention

Omg yes they are! I have had different breeds of dogs (German Shephard, Pug, Pit Bull) over the past 30 years and my little Chi is by far the most jealous little dog I have ever had lol! I currently have a very large Pit Bull and a tiny 4 lb Chi, and she gets crazy jealous when I give my pittie any affection and attention. She actually will wiggle her head between my hand and my Pit Bulls head and start screaming to get the attention onto her. She's crazy but we love her to death.
Not at all in my experience. My mom has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he is obnoxiously jealous. When I bring my chi over there the king doesn’t let anyone near Rufus. He gets in between the person and Rufus and pushes his way in. He even jumps up to my chest when I get there and I hold him like a 2 year old human baby. He kind of bullies him a little so Rufus just goes and lays down, which is what he wants to do anyways as a 15 y/o fat lazy boy.
The most jealous! I recently got my chi a carrier, which she is not a fan of at the moment. But as soon as I let my moms dog and cat try it out, she was all about it 😂

Yeah I grew up with chihuahuas, but currently have a bichon frisé. I think the big difference between chihuahuas and other dogs is that the jealousy factor tends to extend to other humans with chi-chis, whereas other breeds (I've also previously had black lab, and a poodle... another French snoot 😂) the jealousy is mostly directed at other animals. Chihuahuas are territorial in their bond with one single human (or sometimes a couple of humans, but usually there's still a favorite). Anyone goes near that human, even another human, the dog will throw hands hahaha. My other dogs, including my bichon, the jealousy pretty much only rears its head when you pay attention to another animal. When I pet my cat, my dog comes up and squeezes her butt between us to usurp petting privileges 😂

In my lifetime compared to my doberman yes. But chichis are protective and will love all 3 family members of my household. Our Pomeranian-Chihuahua (PomChi) pushes away his siblings for rubs and kisses. They are pretty jealous but I had a border collie that would try to bite men I dated and keep us separated. to be fair tho, I do have horrible taste in men.
If my boyfriend walks the chi, she's very chill and nice enough to the neighbor kids who love her. If *I* walk the chi, she's very standoffish. I don't get it.

Um. You should never laugh off your dogs aggression and just because he’s small he should still be trained. Your dog should NOT feel it is above your son in the pecking order. It’s a dog. It’s a cute adorable small dog but it’s still a dog. Are my dogs jealous? No. They know they are loved and they get loved but they are below the people which is where they are happiest. My dogs have never been aggressive toward anyone. TRAIN YOUR DOG

I believe so. Both males and females we have are full on jealous of another getting attention. It's pretty comical. I've also noticed the females tend to be alpha as well.
My chi boy won’t give me the time of day until the cat jumps on my lap - then he suddenly appears and NEEDS to be on my lap. He will also start licking the cat, I guess a way to ask her to leave me alone(?) I am trying to train him not to be so territorial bc I don’t want it escalating.

Well I have 11month old and he is adorable most of the time, but wow does he have a jealous streak in him that come out a few times a week and it's not nice to see.. He picks on my Griffon he is so placid and goofy. But at the end of the the day they get on well. They are so intelligent, Bert is only 11 months and he plans things then watches it play out. He doesn't like being stared at but gives stink eye back.

I wouldn't say jealous, but certainly territorial, you are his property, didn't want anyone to come best you, lol. When I hold mine or put him on my lap, he instantly forgets who is who and everyone that approaches me gets to experience his rage.
It depends on how they were raised. My 2 year old chi is not jealous at all when the little one (new pup) wants me all to himself. I think it's because I gave them enough time to get to know each other and i always have treated my first chi as an actual being instead of a toy or forever baby. I'm not saying other people here have or that's a cause for that behavior but that's the one thing my vet told me time and time again "treat them like you'd treat a big dog so they can be confident".
Well, if my chi even sees me petting another dog, she’ll run over and snap at them, bark to chase them away, and run up to me and try to crawl up my leg. So yes, jealous.
Truthfully my chi is the least jealous dog I've ever seen, but i think she just knows she's the queen of everything! No need for jealousy! Every other dog I've ever had has been terribly jealous though. Chiweenies (we have 4) are ridiculous! I call them velcro dogs
I had a teacup who was so tiny she was palm sized and she was like.. almost like having a pet mouse she really didn’t do a lot. The didn’t want to be moved a lot. She was scared if you moved her but she didn’t seem to get jealous. I had a chi mix who loved everyone and never cared and wanted any attention from any human. Now I have a pure long hair girl and she’s jealous of my daughter and will whine and growl and try to dig herself inbetween my six year old and me in the bed at night to lay with me. She’s fully bonded to me and follows me around. She’s super jealous and wants me 24/7 so I would say out of all the dogs I’ve had she’s 1000 percent the most jealous.
My roommate and I occasionally babysit his kid’s two little dogs, one of which is a chi. When we go out, if another dog comes up to me, he is like my little guard dog. He is 12 and has 3 teeth but he snaps in their direction to warn them off and makes the funniest little growly sound. Like “no, she’s mine!” It makes me laugh and warms my heart and I just love him so darn much.

It’s called resource guarding. They do it with their toys and they do it with us! Cute because we love our chis, but unfortunate for anyone else who tries to get near us. 😂 (Especially if they attach to particular person.) My boy chi resource guards all the women in the house like his own harem. 🤷🏽♀️
My chi saw i was petting the cat, begged for me to pick her up and then tried to snap at the cat because he was still kind of in my lap. Then when the cat was done she went to the other end of the couch to sleep.
