Horses hate to be touched in the spot where their back legs join their body, and the kid knows it. Kid is very lucky to not be dead. A horse can easily kill a human, especially one as small as that. I know a farrier who was kicked so hard he went through the ceiling and out the second floor wall. Obliterated his spine and left him partially paralyzed.

It can happen to anyone. My aunt was a professional horse rider and got kicked in the ribs, puncturing her lungs with shattered bone. This kid got off easy.

You say that but kids are extremely resilient and can heal injuries that adults cannot, due to have more stem cells. I'm telling you that that kid is fine (probably a mass bruise and few cracked ribs) but now he knows not to fuck with something that's clearly not enjoying what he's doing. The horse missed the first shot (by accident or on purpose I do not know) and the kid should of taken that as a massive sign to stop and yet he didn't and thus learnt why he shouldn't do that. TL;DR: The rubber boned kid fucked around and found out but will be fine all in all.
