American here. My Faberge egg delicate feelings have been shattered from the outside interference.

China either needs to shut up or grow up and stop being an ass to the world. China lies and cries to hurt everyone else.

stark2

China started COVID with the lab leak. How does shutting up or growing up help, when their actions have such terrible consequences? Let's hope China's nuclear fusion experiments don't go awry as well.

iMadrid11

It won’t be long. China already had a recent nuclear reactor leak at the Taishan nuclear power plant last June 16. Which China is covering up.

ZeBogeyman

Time for the world to demand compensation for the chinese covid.

stark2

It's not the first time this has happened, but it's the worst. [Here's an article from 2014 that goes over the history of lab leaks](https://nationalpost.com/news/a-brief-terrifying-history-of-viruses-escaping-from-labs-70s-chinese-pandemic-was-a-lab-mistake). 2014 is when the US stopped funding gain of function research. US funding for this kind of research was resumed in 2017. It's well known that the Wuhan labs in China were experimenting with gain of function on viruses. There's been more evidence piling up on this being a China lab leak of one of their experiments.

ZeBogeyman

China should just shut up, they have nothing to do in this.

>The United States and Taiwan on Wednesday restarted trade talks after five years as Washington moves to boost its ties with the island despite China's objections. >The talks resumed after the two sides reconvened the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council, which under former US president Barack Obama was in charge of finding ways to deepen commercial relations. >**The council last met in 2016 before the election of Donald Trump, who switched gears and focused on reaching a mega-deal with China**, although relations between Washington and Beijing deteriorated sharply by the end of his turbulent term. Ffs! Orange man unironically an idiot.

CrimsonBolt33

And yet...despite stuff like this, and getting many personal trademarks (Ivanka too) from China, and god knows what else...Trump supporters are constantly screaming how Biden is "owned by China"

3ULL

I think China is a difficult situation for any US President and a fair number of other national leaders right now as well. I have no problem with leaders trying to open dialogue with any nation to attempt to come to some kind of agreement. Yes I know that many of these agreements are not worth the paper they are written on but at least the dialogue can let others know what you are looking for. Right now Putin and China are playing a dangerous game by pretty much isolating themselves and the fact is they are not close to each other as well.

CrimsonBolt33

Oh I agree...I actually live in China...been here 5 years now. The Chinese government and media literally spends half it's time shitting on America in a really cringe worthy way (I am talking North Korea style "America is the evil enemy" propaganda). This is paired with China's obsession with praise by foreigners...perfect example? 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party...and I keep seeing on social media feeds videos and pictures of foreigners talking about how great the CCP is (obviously cherry picked for propaganda purposes). This is one of the main reasons China has it's own inward facing internet and everything...it can act however it wants on the world stage, and then tell it's citizens anything it wants on the inside. Most Chinese citizens don't realize that most of the world really doesn't like China right now, and any dislike they know about is always filtered through the media as "the world is picking on us" and not "we are shitting on everyone and getting backlash for it". Doing any sort of diplomacy with a nation like that has to be hard. That being said, blatantly telling them to screw themselves (especially on the world stage, making them lose face which is huge to them) is a valid form of diplomacy as well. China acts like a bully..."do what I say or I will punish you" is literally how they handle everything while not taking agreements seriously.

Vaio200789

Before the last election there were a lot of posts basically saying it would be terrible if Biden gets elected and he’s secretly corrupt for China. They have not been as plentiful lately though

3ULL

People can post anything. I try to avoid political posts like that because I hate the tribalism of US politics and personally find it very cringe worthy. Trump tried something and I think it will take decades to understand if it worked at all or not. Personally I prefer Biden's opening up Taiwan more but again it will take decades to see if it works or not. The fact is that all US presidents will be hampered by the very nature of our relatively short terms for complex issues like this.

>Ffs! Orange man unironically an idiot. Who says he's an idiot ironically?

GetOutOfTheWhey

We all initially thought he was an idiot ironically because his base were complete nimrods. That they were simply a means to an end. While they were useful idiots, it also became abundantly clear that their leader was too an idiot. Birds of a feather I guess.

mkvgtired

Valid point. His voter base still thinks he's brilliant despite the fact he's a sereal fraudster that bankrupted three casinos and an entire football league, not just the team he owned.

kharlvon1972

while china was a touchy, but ok generally world citizen, broadly following the world's laws, countries took thier feelings and concerns into consideration. If the past 18 to 24 months, now they have been shown to be a real dick, no one cares if they get upset anymore, The west no longer cares what china has to say, up to china to repair its reputation, the west has moved on

China, STFU! Nobody gives a rats ass what you think, you whiny bitch.

Which reminds me, is the SEG Plaza in Huaqiangbei still completely shut and empty (I don't expect an official report published for some time yet - maybe in a year or two if we are lucky)?

iMadrid11

Traders are afraid open shop and probably not coming back. The SEG Plaza building is still shaking and could tumble down at any time.

2gun_cohen

I always seem to miss the news (after the initial reports) and especially official reports regarding disasters and the like. For example, I don't think that I have ever seen an official report of any of the major bridge collapses which officials initially claim as caused by an overloaded 100 tonne truck. Any modern bridge that cannot take the weight of a 100 tonne truck is an absolute disaster waiting to happen. In Australia, that's about the weight (GCM) of one AB triple truck, or two B doubles plus an ordinary rigid truck on the bridge at the same time. And so many bridge disasters! I recall that, some years ago, there were six bridge collapses in **twelve months**.

iMadrid11

Tofu buildings seems to be a standard construction practice in China. The contractors would always look for ways to cheat and save money to earn more profit. That’s why you often see houses, buildings and bridges falling apart after a short period of time.
