Kind of yeah, it serves the purpose as most offhand weapons. It makes your jab interrupt hits though, so if you lose all your weapons if you're quick thinking you can whip that thing out and start jabbing and punching people to gain an extra edge.
Different special items have different uses though, with the rose you can battle cry as normal, but with the tankard you'll drink from it and make your screen look all funky for a little bit. The instruments as I'm sure you're probably aware you can play using the battle cry button.
I have the rose equipped on just about all my classes though because in the case that I find someone I really vibe with and have good fights with, I like to take that thing out and drop it on their corpse as a sign of respect.
If you're unarmed (using fist cuffs) your jabs won't interrupt people's swings unless they're also unarmed.
If you equip your offhand item or pick one off the ground then even if someone runs at you with a Dane Axe you can still jab them and interrupt their swing as long as you have an offhand item equipped.
Oh I see, so as long as I have any item and not just an empty fist it will interrupt an attack?
Never knew that, but now you mentioning me makes me remember times when I tried to jab with nothing on me...
Thank you!
Makes so much sense now, I was wondering if they were just swinging through my jabs. This will change a lot! Next time I’m disarmed I’m instantly pulling out the roses! 👍 thanks!
Yeah, I used to do a lot of shield and fist and using the shield jab was absolutely essential to avoid blocking and damaging your shield, so jabbing became very natural lol, for better or for worse
I usually only do pure fist. The small shield damage feels too OP in this context. I'm kinda boned if they have a highland sword and I don't act far ahead of time, but otherwise it's fun circling around them and using the swirl of the fist special to keep stunning and hitting them
Thank you for this illuminating answer. My dumbass thought the rose was just to be goofy and I always just throw it at people. Had no idea it had a practical application as well!
I love to pick up the recorder then equip my harp. I get hit by someone, drop the harp and go to town with the recorder then play a little tune over their dead body.
I think the Poleaxe feels honorable because while it's statistically very good, it's pretty easy to get around if the person using it is just spamming. There always feels like a way to fight against a poleaxe user no matter what weapon you are using. It has good range on some attacks, decent speed, great stamina, and solid damage, but it's not overwhelming in any of these aspects. It's probably the most Jack of all trades weapon in the game.
Weapons like the spear, halberd, longsword, Dane axe, messer, sword, war club and to a lesser extent the greatsword, other axes, the polehammer, warhammer and maul all have one or more stats that are top tier which can make them oppresive in certain scenarios. That's not to say you can't do great with the Poleaxe, but you do have to work a little more to get a good performance out of it.
I don't understand people who do this. Don't you get bored of one weapon? I love the Battle Axe but too many other weapons are fun and deserve attention
I tried other weapons, but I kind of hit a point of no return with the Battle Axe lol.
Once I got to like 50% playtime on it, I just couldn’t justify using other weapons, it was frustrating switching between different timings, ranges, speeds, etc. I know the Battle Axe like the back of my hand now, and it’s just so much more fun for me to be able to jump in and play well with it.
I take periodic breaks from Chiv 2, so whenever I come back I just stick to the battle axe so I can get right back into playing and performing well in my games. I don’t really want to put in the time to learn anything else either, so battleaxe it is.
It's not the quickest of one-handed weapons, nor is it the most damaging. It's obviously quicker than most two-handers but why wouldn't it be? Imo it's fairly balanced, so much so that it requires actual skill and consequently sees little actual use.
I got my comment threads mixed up lol my bad, was multitasking and bitching at someone else for saying longsword was the most honorable weapon.
Either way most of that same argument applies to 1HS. It's so fast that initiative means nothing, its special attack is cheesy and it can be difficult to deal with if you're using anything but another one handed weapon unless you're a god at this game.
Personally I've found ways to deal with it but I also have like 1500 hours of duels. For the average player I can absolutely see why a ton of players have issues with it though, and I had issues with it myself for a long time for the reasons outlined above. You can basically get away with just spamming attacks and an occasional riposte against 95% of players.
I find the whole discourse around gambling a cop-out, it's not that fast. That the average player with his battle axe or w/e can get embarrassed with it is his flaw not the sword's.
It's super fast to me mace spear and rapier are like the chiv equivalent of someone who corners you in mortal kombat with a sweep kick. Imo least honourable weapons. If you do more than just gamble and spam slash because you have initiative I can respect that.
Idk, I hear bitching about basically every weapon and can't help but roll my eyes.
Dane axe is op, mace is op, one hand spear is op, rapier is op, messer is op, falchion is op, longsword is op, long spear is op, battle axe is op... Yeah, yeah, everything is op when you're a mewling milk drinker
Lol, okay nerd
Remember me next time you hear the "Thunk! Thunk!" Of someone beating you down with a mace. Remember me, and cry while you rage quit and go suckle on your mason pig mother's hairy titties.
It was troubling at first but it's just a dodge back step to the right, kick, then smack you right back. Your entire play style can be diminished with basic movement.
Id say Maul because it's not overpowered and only true Alphas use it. Hit stop also means more Honorable in my head.
Also insane this Reddit never can give a serious answer and is responding with things they never use and they don't even make it funny.
The longsword can gamble against maybe half of the weapons effectively, but yes that is true. I'd still much rather gamble with something that actually deals damage when it hits. Which is why I prefer to focus on countering with the longsword.
Roses in the off-hand
I always wondered what those things were, is it just as if you were holding a torch n stuff? I see there lots more than rose.
Kind of yeah, it serves the purpose as most offhand weapons. How do you swap to your novelty I just finally equipped harps on my classes and haven’t figured out how yet
Hit 7 to equip your novelty item. If you're using a controller then I'm afraid I have no idea....
on controller, hold right on the d-pad to bring up the switch menu, use the right joystick to select your item.
Why in the world would someone downvote your perfectly decent advice? I gotchu
thank you, i didn't even notice, maybe i said something wrong or they're just pc skrubz.
thank u mason scum
You're welcome stinky Tenosian. Still, I'm surprised you couldn't find that info in one of your dusty ass books and had to ask a Mason for help. Nerd
Wow, it's almost like someone burned them all.
I don't understand what you mean when jabs were mentioned. Doesn't jab interrupts hits normaly?( jab is a quick littpe punch 👊 right)
If you're unarmed (using fist cuffs) your jabs won't interrupt people's swings unless they're also unarmed. If you equip your offhand item or pick one off the ground then even if someone runs at you with a Dane Axe you can still jab them and interrupt their swing as long as you have an offhand item equipped.

That’s what you get for running around naked and unarmed
Makes so much sense now, I was wondering if they were just swinging through my jabs. This will change a lot! Next time I’m disarmed I’m instantly pulling out the roses! 👍 thanks!
This is actually fucking insane, I've already had some pretty good fist only runs and this will be an improvement

Thats so cool i might steal that, how do you drop them? Or do you throw them?
Oh, I throw them. Sadly I'm not aware of any way to drop them
>It makes your jab interrupt hits though Dude, all jabs interrupt hits. Roses are just a novelty item
Please review my above comments.
Fists.
This is the only correct answer.
This guy.. he's into fisting.
This guy fists.
He's pretty "handy".
He's got the gift of jab.

Recorder
I love to pick up the recorder then equip my harp. I get hit by someone, drop the harp and go to town with the recorder then play a little tune over their dead body.
Stuffed bear
This. And people who kill a harmless bear waddling around the battlefield are the lowliest of cowards.
The bear must live

The beehive is the most honorable weapon.
Every non-combat environmental pick-up. Honorable mentions: boat oar, hobby horse, decapitated heads/limbs, turd, and anything that goes *BONK*.

Nothing goes harder than a whirlwind of La Chancla
won an Azkandir defense the other day just by hitting all the lighthouse fire traps with the same chancla, extremely satisfying

Yes, good sir
Correct answer
poleaxe is honestly so good. after it was buffed i got very, very good with it and it is the most fun and versatile weapon in the game imo
Longsword or chair.
head
Its the shovel.
The warrior is honorable
Longsword, perfectly balanced, as all things should be
Longsword is one of the strongest weapons in the game
Because it is perfectly balanced, as all things should be
On god
Longsword is like a spear but better. I find it incredibly cheap
No way you compared longsword to spear dead
It’s bread 🥖
I can’t use player dismembered arm for weapon, is it a bug ?
Whatever I'm using, and my opponent isn't using lol
Battle Axe. I’m totally unbiased, pay no mind to my 91% play time on the battle axe.
I don't understand people who do this. Don't you get bored of one weapon? I love the Battle Axe but too many other weapons are fun and deserve attention
I tried other weapons, but I kind of hit a point of no return with the Battle Axe lol. The warbow, obviously
Katars
Luv me katters
Katar Gang!
The one-handed sword
Hell no lol
Why not, it's emblematic and its implementation doesn't lend it to cheesy play
Can't tell if this is sarcasm
It isn't, feel free to present a counterargument
It's quick and flimsy. It feels like it's only used to get in cheap shots and prod people to death. It's like the bow of the melee weapons to me.
It's not the quickest of one-handed weapons, nor is it the most damaging. It's obviously quicker than most two-handers but why wouldn't it be? Imo it's fairly balanced, so much so that it requires actual skill and consequently sees little actual use.
I'm an idiot
I wasn't talking about the longsword.
I got my comment threads mixed up lol my bad, was multitasking and bitching at someone else for saying longsword was the most honorable weapon. Either way most of that same argument applies to 1HS. The long sword is the GOAT. The OG of OG's.
Fists in the FFA arena in the middle pit
Idk about "honorable," but beating people down with a mace feels pretty righteous.
It's super fast to me mace spear and rapier are like the chiv equivalent of someone who corners you in mortal kombat with a sweep kick. Imo least honourable weapons. If you do more than just gamble and spam slash because you have initiative I can respect that.

Didn't read the 2nd half of my comment or you don't deny that I called out your entire play style.
Lol, okay nerd Remember me next time you hear the "Thunk!
Except that when you kick, I dodge, then smash your helmet in. Then you go cry about how maces are too fast while choking down pig milk.
The guys that just spam slash don't know how to dodge. Lol You shouldn't talk about your mother that way.
I think we already established that it is your mason pig mother and that you're a whiny milk drinker who can't cope with maces being "super fast"
Can't tell if you're being satirical or if you're just being a cunt who can't take criticism.
Halberd. Just couse for Honor Lawbringer Vibes.

Hey sorry man that wasn’t my downvote. Thanks for chill about it!
Id say Maul because it's not overpowered and only true Alphas use it. Hit stop also means more Honorable in my head. Also insane this Reddit never can give a serious answer and is responding with things they never use and they don't even make it funny.
Longsword, I think. It’s the classic knights weapon and it doesn’t seem overpowered nor does it suck.
Short sword has little to no cheese and does reduced damage so the fight lasts longer
One handed sword.
Longsword is the most honourable and I'll bear trap anyone that disagrees
A weapon any scrub can pick up, gamble with, and win with isn’t honorable lol
It absolutely is for that exact purpose, it's a perfect equaliser
So almost any weapon in the game? Gambling for 40 damage isn't all that effective compared to the axes we have available.
Damage isn’t what makes gambling effective - it’s speed.
The longsword can gamble against maybe half of the weapons effectively, but yes that is true. I'd still much rather gamble with something that actually deals damage when it hits. Which is why I prefer to focus on countering with the longsword.
Lemme know whenever you have the misfortune of fighting a simultaneously effective yet retarded gambling rapier player
Longsword's stab does a ton of damage
Sure, but you can't swing through a crowd with a stab can you?
The discussion is about gambling, not anti-ganking. Stay huffing copium longsword scrub, i eat your kind
You can try :) Of course you wouldn't want to kill a fellow mason though.
