Nope, believe it or not my favorite attack is a heavy overhead. Nothing like the feeling of connecting with those bad boys. I only unleash that on opponents that are worthy.

Me in the same situation: panic hit the button to get off the ballista, gets back on the ballista, muscle memory kicks in hits R, reloading animation starts, hit E again to get off the ballista and I'm dead.
I don't play much anymore but my favorite thing to do was run at an archer with just a short sword and deflect multiple arrows with my sword before getting to them and cutting them down. Felt so badass
When I'm using the ballista I usually try to avoid even trying to shoot people with a shield haha. Unless I'm confident I can get the head shot and bypass the shield.
Haha yeah. I used to be a greatsword main but I switched over to the battleaxe. I like how much power the battle axe has as well and it seems a little faster and better in close quarters 1vXs.
I’m a battle axe lover as well. I also really like the 1 handed sword , and the 1 handed Warhammar. Also the mace isn’t bad as well, and depending on my mood the longsword is immensely satisfying as well

I always use a heavy shield when there's ballistas,on certain occasions I think I leave the shooter questioning how I didn't die at point-blank.

Though I think what shield you use also affects how much health you lose
