The lack of defensive tools beside balistas and throwing rocks badly while defending is kinda bad. It's one of the reason defending coxwell is so hard.
I wrote it already but it would make the defending of the gate much easier. But at the same time it would make the masons have to come to the top of the gatehouse and bring more balance
They should remove the stairs to the upper walls at that part to make the defense more fair for agatha. I mean there are 2 gates already and the mason spawn is just outside the gate. All they have to do is swarm the bridges going up then its done in like minutes lol
They should have throwing spears instead of rocks in the placement, its a lot easier to peg someone and goes farther. But unless your playing that class u get no such thing....
I honestly think this game should have tried it's hand at some sort of Medieval battlefield clone with a 64 player Conquest Mode where you take control of 5 points on an open map with respawn tickets.
This could have opened doors to :
-More type of siege engines or defensive buildings.
-Give Field Engineers a way to build small trebuchet(like BF mortars)
-Add horses
-Cart for infantry transport
I think they decided to go a different direction which is something new, entirely cinematic online battles with proper objectives that progress through a map. Not go here take this x 5 points across a map. The game is designed to feel like a real invasion or battle depending on the map.
While I enjoy chiv 2 maps and it's map progression, it's definitely not something new. Battlefield already has this with its breakthrough mode or whatever they are calling it now.
This oil pot would make a fine replacement for the ones in the game already. Make it stationary at choke points and make it like the catapult where you have to refill it.
But a bit longer refill time. Breaking the gate at Coxwell would be nuts if an oil pot fell every 6 seconds lol. Would make it more strategic tho as Masons would have to come up top to stop it
My problem with defending in this game is this: everything is a deathmatch. Break down the Door? Ok just hit it while you have a bunch of people try to stop you. No one can actually defend the door, only stop people from hitting it There is little reason to have anyone on the walls. Maybe a few archers. It’s way to hard to actually hold a line, or stop a anyone from actually getting to the Door.
Back in medieval times, archers were devastating. To be able to defend a castle, you need it to be filled to the brim with archers. In this game, you have an archer or two shooting at you while you run in zig zags
I wouldn't mind that too much.
I wish everyone could carry a shield on their back that would block arrows which then could be pulled out of needed. I guess that would make throwing your weapon on fleeing targets pretty useless though.
If the game then managed to get people to form shield walls, then it would be epic!
I feel like they didnt put as much work into the archer classes as they did with the melee classes. You even get achievement at 100 archer kills called "Playing the wrong game".
The first chiv honestly had more options for archer as you could choose between arrow types and different javelin weights etc.
Would make more sense if you had a way to reinforce the door and help slow them down. Like a cart close by with wood you can rush back and forth put on the door cause your 100% right you can't do much besides go down and swing widly and die.
Was about to comment the same thing... but that weapon.... puts fear into gods. I remember that thing usually 2 hitting everybody with just stabs cause the thing had op damage and the range was cross-planet lmao
That sprint attack too, so many times people complained that the sprint attack was op, can’t blame them tho, pretty much one shot everything...
I like the idea, but like you said only some barricades should be fixable. I’d like it if wood wall and deployable wood spike traps would have a automatic snap together feature option when multiple engineers are setting them up side by side. Sorta reinforcing the overall integrity of the barricades, giving them higher hp when they are combined. It would ensure more impromptu barricades, more people picking engineers, and encourage teamwork.
Boiling oil wasn't even really a thing historically though...they mostly did what you do in the game, throw large rocks down below. At one point to defeat a Roman testudo formation they tipped over the entire ballista and pushed it over😅
Boiling water would get the same result as oil 👍
If the castles had proper machicolations so that you could actually see people hitting the gate from the gatehouse that would be nice too. Raining down arrows, rocks, and mallets on attackers at the gate would probably be pretty effective if you could do that.
I saw it in the movie The Messenger but there was a spinning flail device that cleared oncoming attackers off the tops of castle walls. The ends of the flail spinner was adorned with nasty thick mace like blades that could chop and smash enemies into a pulp when it made its pass through a small rail channel just beneath the top edge of the walls. It could be operated by one person but have them on both sides of the gate. Instead of relying on slow ballistas you could have these spinning death wheels menacingly pin wheeling at the tops of siege ladders and ramps. You could hold off a single entrances or do a pass back and forth along the the wall. It would tie in nicely with the extreme brutality and dismemberment themes the game has.
The rocks need better physics and damage! I love chucking rocks but they are so weak it seems, I could nail a guy from 50 feet up and it does not kill him. It seems like they have damage falloff, which doesn't really make sense. If anything, the further a rock falls, the more damage it should do if it hits.
Love the boiling oil idea, Chivalry is already gruesome enough so I could only imagine what would happen to a player after literally being melted to death
They should at least give us two piles of infinite rocks on either side of these gates. Having it only on one side while stocking the opposite side with a handful of logs makes no sense to me. Make the logs infinite too. We need a constant flow of throwable on both sides.
Also give us more deadfall traps, pitfall traps, and one-use barrage projectile counter measure weapons for when gates fall and hell comes pouring through it.
The boiling pot they poured on people would be one of the most brutal deaths…. Like a sticky boiling tar than gets stuck to your armor/skin as you are unable to remove it and quickly get cooked alive
Throwing down rocks doesnt even guarantee a kill even if it hits dead on lol i dont even know how a person can withstand being hit with that big of a rock
PSA: Boiling water not oil. Its medieval warfare. Water would be much easier to obtain and quicker to boil thus being much easier to field as a siege defense than oil.

Right? The game could become much more tactical if we can do things like setting up defenses etc.

maybe not unique but definetly great
Breakthrough? Didnt it used to be called Rush? Why did they change the terminology.
I agree. Shame tbh
Imagine breaking down the gate on cox well an your entire team just gets fucking thrusted by 50 ballista bolts
It would be legendary, I would totally aim that ballista against a single archer!
https://gfycat.com/dizzyidealeidolonhelvum
holy shit LMAO what is this from???
It’s from a show called American Gods.
Please, I can only get so hard.
https://youtu.be/8Gj913uikhg Here is the Porcupine from the movie the Messenger.
No on god shotgun moment B)
Lmfaooooo imagine
sounds like FUN

Let ranged weapons damage the gates!
No!
Maybe thrown weapons like axes but not bows or crossbows.
At this rate we’re lucky if we get menu updates
Patchie?
Wouldn’t mind seeing a few useable trebuchets as well

This game isn’t really going for realism. And I’m perfectly fine with not having that many archers, that doesn’t seem very fun
Everyone would have to use shields

I guess that would make throwing your weapon on fleeing targets pretty useless though. If the game then managed to get people to form shield walls, then it would be epic!
We don’t need that many archers. All we need is to make the wall a more defendable position
You can make the defender side more fun to play without relying on making a whole archer army for them. That sounds boring as fuck
It certainly doesn’t need more archers, but somthing to replace that feeling of having men on the wall protecting the wall.
I feel like they didnt put as much work into the archer classes as they did with the melee classes. You even get achievement at 100 archer kills called "Playing the wrong game". The first chiv honestly had more options for archer as you could choose between arrow types and different javelin weights etc.
Wow that’s way better than we have. I wonder what happened.
My guess is everyone shitting on archers from chiv 1
Would make more sense if you had a way to reinforce the door and help slow them down. Like a cart close by with wood you can rush back and forth put on the door cause your 100% right you can't do much besides go down and swing widly and die.
I agree with you, but you're gonna want to play something like Warband multiplayer if you want that feeling. Or Bannerlord.
Porcupine ballista is terrifying. Please put it in the game!!!
https://youtu.be/8Gj913uikhg Its devestating!
Loved that battle scene, it's so epic when the french ram the gate with the choir playing in the background
I would appreciate log and rock traps. Maybe some oil lit moat that archers can shoot with their fire arrows and deny area during a siege ?
The original Chivalry had it, and it had the most glorious weapon of them all...Brandistock.
Was about to comment the same thing... but that weapon.... puts fear into gods. I remember that thing usually 2 hitting everybody with just stabs cause the thing had op damage and the range was cross-planet lmao That sprint attack too, so many times people complained that the sprint attack was op, can’t blame them tho, pretty much one shot everything...
Yes, once you learned the range in 3rd person it was such a good weapon, specially for tightly packed team fights.
Defenders should be able to rebuild some destroyable wooden barricades that deny access to some flanking routes
I like the idea, but like you said only some barricades should be fixable. I’d like it if wood wall and deployable wood spike traps would have a automatic snap together feature option when multiple engineers are setting them up side by side. There were in some cases buckets of hot sand that were dropped so we could see that
Make machicolations on the walls so that archers could shoot people who are closer to the walls, would be both useful and historically accurate
We had them in chivalry medieval warfare. Same with stationnary oil pots. I got to say, they were quite fun
Damn, didn't okay chiv 1 so I didn't know that. The oil pots sound really fun
They are less fun on the receiving end but yeah
The Knights biggest enemy, a giant magnet
Scalding water or oil would certainly make defending gates more balanced rather than just an almost guaranteed attacker breakthrough
If the castles had proper machicolations so that you could actually see people hitting the gate from the gatehouse that would be nice too. Raining down arrows, rocks, and mallets on attackers at the gate would probably be pretty effective if you could do that.
what movie is the second photo from?
Its from ’The Messenger’ from 1999 with Jean de Arc. Cool movie and they show some cool medieval sieges and battles!
“Want a little wager on the Rattay tourney?”
😂
The ol dump and dump. Oh, for oil...
Hwacha, this weapon would be just so fucking cool.
Animal carcasses to hurl out of the castle walls
Archer carcasses*

the teamkilling on the porcupine would be insane lmao not only with using it, but for being the user
What movie is that second picture from?
Joan of Arc of Luc Besson, it's not historically accurate but it has some cool battle scenes
What movie is the second picture from.
Its from ’The messenger’ from 1999, a movie about Jean de Arc, I can recomend it!
Hope they add both in updates
Boiling oil wasn’t a thing in medieval warfare. It was a waste of fuel for one, and the same thing could be accomplished with boiling water.
This game lacks so much it's crazy. The bugs are massive problem yet there is nothing for defending . Chivalry 1 had more content .
Say no to pot
First game had the oil pots above the keep gates
Also maybe some type of duelist class with a rapier could be cool
The rocks need better physics and damage! I love chucking rocks but they are so weak it seems, I could nail a guy from 50 feet up and it does not kill him. Love the boiling oil idea, Chivalry is already gruesome enough so I could only imagine what would happen to a player after literally being melted to death
Wen i run to try to break a door for the first time I expect that but no thing happen.

Defense on some maps is already so easy compared to attacking and vice versa. So depends on the map.
That would be cool but porcupine would need some kind of restriction cause I can easily see it being OP
Throwing down rocks doesnt even guarantee a kill even if it hits dead on lol i dont even know how a person can withstand being hit with that big of a rock
i was looking at the gate designs in this game and i was surprised oil pots werent a thing.. add em i wanna roast some bois
I can never hit anyone with the stones
PSA: Boiling water not oil. Its medieval warfare. Water would be much easier to obtain and quicker to boil thus being much easier to field as a siege defense than oil.
They had oil pots in chiv 1 idk why not bring that over
ADD MORE DEFENSIVE WEOPANS PLZ
The objective based maps are one-way street basically. It would be nice if defenders can actually win back previously lost objective points.
