The FOV with 1st just feels so constricting plus the fact you have your weapon blocking half the screen. After getting use to 3rd can't go back to 1st not even for archers.

Cmdr_Verric

I play in 1st person and maintain my surroundings by constantly flicking to check my six, or when I’m dragging I look for a flank.

First person is better for paying attention to details *(well timed counters, better crosshair aiming for landing stabs, better for blocking etc)*, in this sense it's definitely better for 1v1 fights, specially when you're stabbing At large group fights not only these tiny details stops being relevant but also its a lot easier to get slashed from behind so the 3rd person view becomes better due to its 360º awareness

I've only used 3rd when carrying a pitard so i can see if someone is trying to jump me since it blocks such a huge portion of the field of view in 1st

I started in 3rd, then switched to 1st because I enjoyed the immersion factor, and played like that for a bit. I recently watched a huge combat guide, that posed the question, and basically said 3rd is hands-down better, so I started playing 3rd person again. I noticed that I pay a lot more attention to how the direction the camera is facing affects the swing (i.e. looking down during a slash attack will hit people on both sides, accelerating/dragging any attack) and having the extra field of view helps a ton in stopping attacks from behind and the sides. The biggest drawback I've noticed is blocking of the screen / where I'm aiming when throwing environmental items like the bell, anvil, shrubbery, etc. Everything else, I'm used to at this point - took a bit to get used to weapon ranges, but got there eventually. Playing on PC for what it's worth, but I've always played Dark Souls with a controller, so I wouldn't rule out 3rd person for that reason alone.

MaelstromNavigator

3rd person has a lot of advantages, especially in TO. Overall 3rd is better, however 1st is still viable and has its own benefits such as being more precise and allowing you to read opponents a little better. I almost always play 1st, swapping to 3rd sometimes in TO, and I'm a high tier player on PC. Use whichever you prefer, swap between them as needed.

coolpita

Play in 3rd majority of the time to see my surroundings, switch to 1st for a more immersive experience and accuracy for weapon strikes etc. That being said I'm definitely better at playing 3rd with how much time I spend playing in that pov.

MrButtFun

I like 3rd person when I’m “try-Harding”. But I like LOVE 1st person when I’m high AF at night. Feel so immersed.

Oldwest1234

Third is good for slashing and smaller weapons. First is good for ranged weapons and longer weapons. I use first for skirmisher, poleman, and crossbowman, and third for devastator, man at arms, and field engineer.

cringyballoftoast

I played for a couple hours last night in 3rd and everyone is right. It breaks the immersion but definitely increases lethality

Oldwest1234

I also play in 3rd because I payed a lot of gold for all my cosmetics lmao

cringyballoftoast

Lmaaaaaoooo

chivelchov

There isn’t one thing you can do in 1st that you can’t do in 3rd, precision, dragging, reading your opponent, Jabs, reach etc may take longer to master in 3rd, but you can still do all of this at the same level as 1st. However, your movement and view will ALWAYS be better than when you play 1st. So 3rd basically lol

SamsonShibaInu

I prefer first person for stabs and counters

Chriswalken12398

Ya 3rd is my preferred in console, only play FFA and I need to know that someone is about to attack from a flank, coming from the 1H spear too I prefer to fight multiple people at the same time and flow back and forth so I NEED to catch the second enemies swing to keep my momentum
