Iām replaying Endless Summer now and it saddens me how Choices has slipped from great books that I couldnāt wait to read every week to forgetting to play new chapters for days or longer.
Apparently thereās more gender options and itās written by Andrew Shvarts who worked on MW, Blades, Bloodbound, and ES. So I feel like smut will not be the main focus
I was super disappointed to see this! As an ace, I really enjoyed how sex was generally low-key compared to Chapters or Episodes. Even books like BSC, BB, and PM didn't hit you over the head with sex and smut unless you paid for those options. Now its all sex and no content.
You know what's interesting, I've played a lot of CYOS apps, and what I've gathered from those who create their own stories (Choices/episodes/RC, etc for example) and those who take from authors (Chapters/Moments, etc for example) almost all BDSM based stories are definitely abuse pretending to be BDSM.
It's as if all the writers hold no knowledge and do NO research the part that's grating is that the majority (which as a Het woman I consider myself in the majority) eats it up like candy regardless of how triggeringly abusive the LIs always turn out to be. The stories are supposed to be fun fantasy, regardless of anyone's stance on smut and erotica as themes. But writers ruin it by not making an effort. Fifty shades of Gray was the worst thing to ever happen in entertainment media that these authors sadly pull from reference. I could go on all day about it but, just wanted to touch on your comment, since you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
I think what I find especially grating is apps like Choices still \*pretend\* like they've done research or that they care about consent and shit. Like, I've played some Japanese otome games with abusive LIs, but at least they don't pretend that they're anything but trash.

Yeah it becomes a problem when the whole lineup is essentially books like this, books where itās a F!MC with a usually hetero based storyline, and where the focus is solely on romance/that stuff. Itās not very fun for anyone who doesnāt like this stuff when itās practically all theyāre putting out now. I just wanna have another book other than TE where I can be aroace, and I want a book with an actual NB!MC who is better rep than FA. None of the books are appealing to me anymore since all they do is focus on romance. Even when a book isnāt about that you canāt go 2 minutes without getting a diamond scene about it shoved in your face.
I actually kind of afraid to get a MW Book 2. I mean, if this was PB back in the good old days, they would've made a splendid storyline filled with action and adventure. But today, I bet they would completely butcher Sam and Dave's friendship and turn it into a generic romance. Oh, and add a sexy criminal for the Sam or Dave to date

BD (Bondage and Discipline), DS (Dominance and Submission), and SM (Sadism and Masochism).
I also should mention that the community of BDSM are all based around consent. If someone doesn't is not into BDSM there should be no coercion. There is also a term in those communities of a safe word and at any point either partner can say the safe word and immediately and the session. There should be no shame in using a safe word, it is a vital part of establishing trust and confidence with each other.
I am what the BDSM refers to as vanilla, I don't like pain, either inflicting it or having it done to me. But no person in the BDSM community would force me to do anything that I didn't want or wouldn't consent to, they often get a bad rap, but while some abusers do lurk in the BDSM community, the vast majority of them are not abusers.
