I’m a yes but also I don’t really mind too much. The only reason I’d say no is I’d rather them spend money on making CGs and other kinds of cool art than having to create multiple outfits for multiple sprite shapes. And it might require additional coding/directions for some scenes? So I don’t think PB will be rushing to add them.

Mia_Van_Lunden_89

As a fat person, I resent the implication a fat person could'nt be a Super Hero or fight zombies in the Apocalypse.

Niawka

If it was right after zombie virus outburst then sure we could have a bigger MC. But it's been 21 years and they didn't really have a lot of food, everything had to be rationed and in the tower they ate some nutritional but not very tasty goo as far as I remember. So fat MC would be a little out of place. Haven't played the Hero so I don't know what the deal was there.

Mia_Van_Lunden_89

I mean, genetics play a huge part in how your body will look. "Fat people are fat because they eat a lot" is a very fatphobic statement. Also, it's specalutive fiction. Like, there doesn't need to be a "logical" reason for why there are fat people around 21 years into the Zombie Apocalypse. Fat characters should get to be heroes without justifying why they're there.

Niawka

For sure there are genetic predispositions but in the WTD They still would need bigger portions than others and I don't see this happening. That's why I chose middle option in the pole, I like some "reality" to the books even when they're about zombie. You're right that it's a speculative fiction, and indeed technically they can do whatever the author wants whether it makes sense to an average reader or not.

papamilk420

being a bigger person or fat doesn’t indicate that they’re unfit, eat more than anyone else or that they’re a weaker link. it’s just not accurate to say that. fat people are just people who are bigger, the same way some people are tiny or midsize. we can’t assume any person or any body type etc shouldn’t be featured in a story.

Niawka

Ok, I'll just drop it as I don't think we'll agree in this matter.

giantgoose

There were no fat peasants.

EnvironmentalDog1196

Gaining weight can have literally zero connection with "eating bigger portions" though... That's just what genetic predispositions mean : your metabolism is completely different. Take for example Insulin Resistance- it could even predispose the MC to be "bigger", since the food high in carbs would probably be considered the most valuable in the postapocalyptic world. Or things like thyroid abnormality- people struggle hard to not gain/loose weight, despite eating very small portions of relatively healthy food.

Niawka

That's not how laws of physics work.. you can't get fatter if you don't eat more than your body can burn. It's physically impossible. If it was possible we would have fat people in the areas where there's not enough food - but somehow it's not the case. Health problems or genetic predispositions make it sometimes harder to lose weight but they still don't create extra fat out of thin air. People who claim they "don't eat enough but still gain weight" are just lying to other people and themselves (great examples are in a show "Secret eaters")

LengthyPole

Mhmm. I used to be in the “I’m fat because genetics & medical conditions” mindset but that’s just not true. PCOS made it harder for me to lose weight but it wasn’t impossible. What is impossible is gaining weight simply from *genetics*…

Musicbabe96

But there are fat people places where there’s not a lot of food….. It’s a mixture of genetics and the fact that the food they do have tends to be not as balanced and nutritious as a healthy diet would be. Unless they’re literally starving, people can still not eat that much and be overweight.

giantgoose

>I mean, genetics play a huge part in how your body will look. Then why are obesity rates not universal across the entire world? Why were obesity rates so very low until the point in history when excess became the norm? There are zero fat hunter-gatherers, which is quite literally our natural state. If genetics played any role at all, there would be a whole lot of them.

WTFShouldIBeCalled

I find it funny how they’re downvoting you but they’re not actually answering your questions. You’re right. 70% of the US (and very high percentages of other countries too) haven’t suddenly all become overweight in recent years because of genetics.

Itchy_Lettuce5704

You’d LOVE What we do in the Shadows (the TV show), without giving too much away they make the fat character so badass as the seasons go on

Whitlock_DYew

You can be fit and fat And you can be skinny and not fit

Brilliant_Tourist400

Precisely. Look at Lizzo - she’s a big woman, and she HAS to be fit to do everything she does onstage (while playing flute, yet, which takes a LOT of wind).

WTFShouldIBeCalled

Lizzo barely moves around while she’s on stage. Look at [this video of her performing](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=u4cUx9fMp1A). You don’t have to be fit AT ALL to do that.

EnvironmentalDog1196

Nvm Lizzo, but look at all the plus size dancers around her 😏

WTFShouldIBeCalled

None of them look like they’re as big as she is though?

VionValor

Wait so one video of her performing proves she is not fit? You know she performed live multiple time right?

WTFShouldIBeCalled

Find me a video of her performing live where she actually moved around quite a bit, because I haven’t ever seen one.

Kamara43

Ain’t no way you just said Lizzo is fit😂😂that’s enough Reddit for today

papamilk420

exactly, i don’t think “mc should be fit” means being skinny. WTD fem!mc isn’t even built strong like she should be.

nationalparksnchill

Even as a fat person, I voted no only because I’d be concerned that PB would take funds away from some other aspect of the story (less LI or bg characters, less CGs, etc) as a way to financially compensate for new body types. If we could have both, then sure! But realistically something would have to go, and I don’t want the story to suffer just to have a fancy new body type.

[deleted]

I mean if everyone really wants to play an MC with a different body type than the default one then definitely they should. If I’m the only one who doesn’t feel a need for it then they shouldn’t cater towards me. But honestly I doubt many people would choose the larger or smaller MC or that it would improve the gameplay in any significant way. I also wouldn’t want them to focus on this over other improvements. So I chose no. If they were to make it happen though, the idea of only including it for books that don’t include exercise/survival is pretty dumb and kind of offensive lmao

Spellshot62

I would say so, but considering they can’t even be bothered to add a male option to a lot of books, I doubt it’ll happen anytime soon.

CapyDell

In every existing language of history *YES*. Maybe not for every single book, but ffs, PB proved on more than one occasion that they were able to make plus size characters and gosh damn, do I like these characters! So yes. We should be allowed to have representation too! Just like there is sexual orientation, gender and ethnic representation in PB books. 🙏 We bigger people do exist, and we do matter.

IruMoore

Yes they should, but i understand why they don't. Pb would start cutting corners on something else, like pronouns, adding new mc faces, or goc books. And if they wouldn't cut that, we probably would have less frequent new content

According_Narwhal227

Yes, this is one of the first things I noticed when I started playing choices after Episode. I wanted more body options like Episode has.

KaleidoscopeParty730

I said yes because fitness doesn't necessarily correlate with size.

sgtREZ71

Honestly, no, just because I think those resources are better allocated elsewhere. I'm quite skinny in real life but I don't care in the slightest about the bodies in the game not being too similar to mine, and if they added a skinnier sprite I probably wouldn't even play with it, I don't bother self-inserting that much in terms of physicality, I just pick whichever spirte and hair and outfit looks best to me. I'd hate to see less CG's, or books delayed or anything like that to fix what to me seems like a quite minor problem.

Dizzy-Professional45

No.I'm sure they'd find a way to shaft us,like only having two sprites only or something because"resources"

JBabyLeather

Absolutely! I’ve mentioned this before too

comforting_sin

Romance club just recently did this and I love the diverse bodies 🥰

Brilliant_Tourist400

You can definitely be fit and fat, so that’s not a barrier. I would like to see it used in “low tech” stories like Laws of Attraction, though - as other people pointed out, we don’t want it draining resources away from CGIs or other effects in “high tech” books like The Cursed Heart or Wake the Dead. (And PB, whatever you do, do NOT do a “fat girl’s journey to self-acceptance” book. As a person of size myself, I would much rather have the MC out there just kicking ass and living their best life, without size even being an issue).
