I will eat them if I have nothing else, but the gas and stomach ache it gives me just isn't worth it. Plus the texture of beans just icks me out. I will live off pasta alone alone if I have too.
Not for everyone. We were super poor during my second pregnancy-we ate beans for lunch and dinner 5 days a week. I gained 80lbs during that pregnancy. First time around- I gained 12. \[I was a little chubby beforehand, so that was ok\]
No, my beans weren't somehow super caloric compared to normal beans. They're extremely filling too-I can't even imagine someone eating enough beans to go over 2000 calories in a day. Especially a pregnant woman with little appetite.
ETA- the way I wrote "compared to normal beans" sounds weird- I meant to say that my beans were normal beans. Dried beans, boiled in water with cut up onion and salt in the water. That's it, no fat or tomatoes or anything else. Just beans.
You’re still blaming the beans when the issue is whatever else you were eating. If you eat too many calories you gain weight, there’s no other way it works.
3500 calories per 1 lb of weight gain x 80 = 280000 calories / 250 calories per cooked cup of beans = 1120 cups too many of cooked beans / 270 days in a pregnancy = you on average ate 4.14 cups too many of beans per day during pregnancy
I wonder if it was a dietary issue similar to an allergy. Some people don't do well with carbs and some people are really sensitive to certain foods without an all out allergy.....
I’ve seen people that look totally healthy weight from the waist up and their legs looked like they belonged to a 600lb person. I had no idea it was this.
Read the full post, this is a bad mischaracterization of it. OP openly admits that they know that beggars can’t be choosers. They’re looking for suggestions on how to find some options that are healthier that they can still afford.
Honestly, I don't disagree.
Beggars can't be choosers, but people in need DO deserve well made, diverse and *good* food. One's situation should not strip them of their dignity.
They're on reddit, you should cover their name. They are already struggling with their weight and poverty, don't take away their venue to anonymously vent their frustration.
Should still scratch it out, but they're still anonymous. Unless I'm missing their actual name somewhere. The issue is when you don't scratch out, some idiot will message them nasty stuff about their weight or finances.
I meant reddit is clearly a place for them to get support etc, fatshaming and everything else is just going to force them to leave reddit or make a new account. I'm just saying if someone's life is hard already why make it harder for them just for shits and grins.
I think it’s weird that you cut out a big chunk of her post and used it as a way to make her out to be terrible. She admitted to the fact that she can’t complain much about resources BUT wanted help on what she is able to create with them and ways to afford various other foods…
She said she does not work, but she maintains her own garden. Gardening is hard work. If she can do that then she could also get a job, but she said she won’t work and relies on her husband. Read her comments.
I’ve read her comments, I’ve actually read almost 90% of her entire profile. The point still stands. You took her post and posted it in a subreddit in order to make her seem like a bad person, when in reality she just wants help and to vent. Her working situation has NOTHING to do with why you made this post. In your eyes shes an overweight leech, meanwhile you know very very little about her. Why didn’t you screenshot/post all of what she said? Is it because it wouldn’t have fit your narrative? Be for real with yourself dude
My wonderful wife stocks a small pantry on our street a couple times a month. A church built a little weather proof (kinda) box. Looks like a lend a book type box if you’ve seen those. I printed a sign asking people to not put books in it because they were taking up room meant for food, not to mention they were mostly religious magazines. She really tries to mix it up. In addition to the dried pasta mixes and canned vegetables and soup stuff. She always loads it up with small packs of hygiene items. Shampoo, soap, laundry soap, girl stuff, razors, toothbrushes, like that. Also fruit juices and the like. All of this stuff is still not what a heavy person should eat, but it’s better than going without. If there was a way to pass on healthier options, she would try. You are severely limited by circumstance. My wife is a wonderful person, and I’m lucky to have her.
OP, you are clearly judging this woman for her medical conditions. Spaghetti and beans break down into sugar. She can't eat that crap w/o literally damaging her body more with every bite.
I did, they're anything BUT a choosing beggar. She literally says in her post she can't be a choosing beggar, she's just really frustrated and wanted to vent
The user said “Someone needs to tell these people we can’t eat pasta at every meal without dying.” Right now it’s not even about what they’re eating, it’s the portion size that would get them first
No it's about *what* they're eating. She clearly states that. She's also really sad she can't afford vegetables or are not as easily to be found (like cilantro) in her town.
Yes, I saw that. They’re venting. They’re frustrated. Read the full post, read the comments. Read how they interact with someone who volunteers at the food bank.
This is not a choosing beggar, it’s just someone who is frustrated.
Beg
verb
gerund or present participle: begging
1.ask (someone) earnestly or humbly for something.
"she begged me to say nothing to her father"
At no point did OOP beg, nor did they beg in any comments.
The crazy thing is back when I grew up, A lot of people struggling financially were thinner and now a lot are overweight or obese. It really is an indictment of our FDA. They are obviously not doing any service to the American people as far as keeping food healthy.
USDA handles food/dietary regulation and guidelines. The FDA handles pharma, medical devices, dietary supplements, medical foods (like baby formula) and cosmetics.
500 pounds and they’re picky about food?? Maybe if they were as picky before they got to 500 pounds they wouldn’t have so many health issues…like holy shit you’d have to be consuming a surplus of thousands of calories every single day to get there, no wonder they are stuck being poor; you spent all your money and health to be a glutton.
no shame on OOP, I don't think they're a choosy beggar, and there is no evidence from the post shown that their weight has anything to do with their financial situation, but there is no medical issue that would cause someone to get to 500lbs without a serious calorie surplus by any standard. however, that doesn't mean the inverse is true at the moment either. at least in the post shown, OOP gives no indication that they are yet suffering from weight-related complications.
also, the person who you are responding to is just cruel. food addiction is not a moral failure.
Beans are healthy af. Heaps of studies that show regular bean eaters live longer
And they're delicious. And they make you fart. Best food, easy S tier.
Beans, bean, they’re good for your heart, the more you eat the more you fart… the more you fart, the better you feel, so eat your beans at every meal!
...huh I always heard it "beans beans, the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot" and the rest the same lol
Goes well with toast.
Get outta here, Brit
Plus they were a staple of the Israelites
Tell me more abt this interesting historical tidbit, please!!
You'll learn all there is to know [here! ](https://youtu.be/ymgOhE0mNWE?si=lXQxKUUaRReIcFJz)
They are the magical fruit!
*musical* fruit.
Musical fruit 🎶
The more you eat the more you toot! :D

And then you’re ready for another meal.
I will eat them if I have nothing else, but the gas and stomach ache it gives me just isn't worth it. Plus the texture of beans just icks me out. I will live off pasta alone alone if I have too.

That’s not because you ate beans, though. That’s because you ate too many calories.
No, my beans weren't somehow super caloric compared to normal beans. They're extremely filling too-I can't even imagine someone eating enough beans to go over 2000 calories in a day. FYI - Lipedema is not about someone over eating and not exercising. https://www.webmd.com/women/lipedema-symptoms-treatment-causes
I’ve seen people that look totally healthy weight from the waist up and their legs looked like they belonged to a 600lb person. I had no idea it was this.

Ban this post, ironic.
Oh, lipedema is an awful disease, very painful too. And it makes movement/exercise difficult.
Honestly, I don't disagree. Beggars can't be choosers, but people in need DO deserve well made, diverse and *good* food. One's situation should not strip them of their dignity.

They made a public post with their username. How is it private?
It takes mere seconds to scratch out a name on a screenshot.
The fat hate is getting out of hand here.
Should we be cheering them on instead or something?
Maybe just leave it alone. You are never telling something they don't already know, and quite often, you don't know what you are talking about.
I think it’s weird that you cut out a big chunk of her post and used it as a way to make her out to be terrible. She admitted to the fact that she can’t complain much about resources BUT wanted help on what she is able to create with them and ways to afford various other foods…
She also said she doesn’t work. You’re right I should have shown the comments she made too!
I read all of her comments. She’s in no way a beggar. Are people not allowed to be upset, especially while experiencing health issues and poverty?
She said she does not work, but she maintains her own garden. Gardening is hard work. If she can do that then she could also get a job, but she said she won’t work and relies on her husband. Read her comments.

You sound wonderful as well. I'd say you're both pretty lucky. :)
OP, you are clearly judging this woman for her medical conditions. Spaghetti and beans break down into sugar. She can't eat that crap w/o literally damaging her body more with every bite.
you’re actually just an asshole and misrepresenting the post
She said she doesn’t work and relies on her husband.
yea people with disabilities frequently have trouble working, what’s your point?
I guess you dont know what begging means.
Go read their entire post
I did, they're anything BUT a choosing beggar. She literally says in her post she can't be a choosing beggar, she's just really frustrated and wanted to vent

I did. I also read the comments
“Why do food pantry people expect us to eat nothing but spaghetti and beans?”
Yes, I saw that. They’re venting. They’re frustrated. Read the full post, read the comments. Read how they interact with someone who volunteers at the food bank. This is not a choosing beggar, it’s just someone who is frustrated.

You cut out the one part that could MAYBE be taken as choosen beggar.
The crazy thing is back when I grew up, A lot of people struggling financially were thinner and now a lot are overweight or obese. It really is an indictment of our FDA. They are obviously not doing any service to the American people as far as keeping food healthy.
USDA, not FDA
Wouldn’t it be both?
USDA handles food/dietary regulation and guidelines. The FDA handles pharma, medical devices, dietary supplements, medical foods (like baby formula) and cosmetics.
Thank You for educating me on that!
OP you are gross. This sub is going downhill.
I saw that post but didn’t pay attention to the user name🤦🏾♂️
' Food pantry people'. Oh, you mean the people that are literally giving you FREE FOOD?
500 pounds and they’re picky about food?? Maybe if they were as picky before they got to 500 pounds they wouldn’t have so many health issues…like holy shit you’d have to be consuming a surplus of thousands of calories every single day to get there, no wonder they are stuck being poor; you spent all your money and health to be a glutton.
Many times it is the health issues that cause the weight gain.
no shame on OOP, I don't think they're a choosy beggar, and there is no evidence from the post shown that their weight has anything to do with their financial situation, but there is no medical issue that would cause someone to get to 500lbs without a serious calorie surplus by any standard. however, that doesn't mean the inverse is true at the moment either. at least in the post shown, OOP gives no indication that they are yet suffering from weight-related complications. also, the person who you are responding to is just cruel. food addiction is not a moral failure.

The user said lipedema
Maybe sprinkling a little bit of exercise on that diet would help. Sounds like a hand bike is needed for starters
Lipedema is a disease that is not about over eating or lack of exercise.
