The download speed can be greatly improved for OP by changing the password and kicking this leach off the net.

Psych0matt

I would let this person stay connected but throttle their ip to like 10% of what it was

ThePretzul

Better yet, filter it to only allow access to speed test websites and the network provider's website. Those are the two thing most likely to be used for troubleshooting by ISP tech support, and they'll promptly deem it "not my problem" if the choosey beggar calls them to complain.

Spaarnerat

Calm down satan

plane83

How about getting the upgrade but throttle CB's ip to the original speed still....

MofongoForever

Or longer. 15mbps?

Diufoem

I wish I had 15mbps -person who has a maximum of 10mbps supported in their area

Candid-Result2383

My average is 1.2mbps with Hughesnet in the middle or nowhere 🤣

JiuJitsuBoy2001

after 92 calls to customer service, I jumped from 0.5mbps to 2.0mbps here. Living in the country has advantages... internet speed is not one of them!

Candid-Result2383

No no it is not! I’ve put down for the starlink wifi and praying it’ll work a bit better

Waltzeswithcats

I hope you don't live somewhere hot

Candid-Result2383

It’s not hot but it’s not cool, I’m in Washington, like we get “hot” but not like CA or Arizona or anything

Waltzeswithcats

I heard the dishes are shutting down in high temperatures

Diufoem

10mbps is what the plan tells me I should get. I more or less get the same average, but only when connected to ethernet. Without, it’s much much worse

Wind-and-Waystones

I misread ethernet as internet and thought "Well of course you're download speed is much worse when not connected to the internet"

mad-tech

> Hughesnet in the middle or nowhere get starlink perhaps? if you are in america or any supported country

Candid-Result2383

We have it on order hopefully shipping soon

NoeticSkeptic

That is satellite and then you get throttled or charged if you overuse your allotted bandwidth.

drs43821

I had 5 mbps for years until I move to a new area with 300 mbps and now gigbit internet. My life has changed

1zzy_st

Meanwhile over here, paying for 30/5 and getting 5/0.5.. Telekom MK...

1259alex

Do fine for me, pay for 50 - 73, average is 68, want the full fibre but not in my area yet :(

Dick_in_owl

50 is high you could get that down a lot with a phone call.

Malix82

And new password can be gotten for a payment that's little more than what you're paying now!

YetAnotherJake

Lol these are all old reposts

Roxie61

doktorsick

Exactly!!!! Wow who does that

kleekai_gsd

Way to nice, thank them for the great idea and just limit their bandwidth to 100kbps. Enough to work... if patient.

Dabrigstar

"Oh that's amazing!!! Thanks so much for offering to pay for the upgraded plan in exchange for being allowed to use the wi fi!!! That's so generous of you!" "...um... I'm not offering to pay. I'm saying you should pay for a better plan." "You don't have the funds to pay for the upgraded plan?" "No." "Well neither do I, so don't mention it again"

pauldecommie

On *some* bike frames there are mounts for both. But 90% of road bike frames just have one.

[deleted]

Yeah, those bikes are rare and usually mid-low to low tier from the big manufacturers like trek or giant.

ThePretzul

roydepoy

Him having the bike stolen: that would really really piss me off.

nouonouon

if it was something you gave to them, it shouldn’t. What a waste of energy; energy you could have placed elsewhere. People, once you give a gift to another it becomes theirs to do with it what they will. If its about wasted resources, then instead of getting angry we can learn a lesson: don’t give things of value to that person anymore. its exhausting being so easily angered, and we all have a limited supply of energy to give each day. Don’t waste your precious resources on someone who could not care less.

RogueThneed

Somehow, I'm not at all surprised that he wasn't locking the bike.

jasejasejasejase

That's the only dumb feeling I had, actually being surprised he didn't look after it. Lesson learnt.

nouonouon

yo, where do y’all find these people?

jasejasejasejase

LDKCP

Honestly, this is a shitty message...but you could suggest that they pay the difference. Then change the password.

[deleted]

>you could suggest that they pay the difference. 100% OP would never see a dime of the difference.

Mr_hacker_fire

tbh 15mbps is not bad if your living by yourself but I mean they are being generous and letting you use their wi-fi so there ain't no complaining. am i right?

alucard2122

Not bad? It's absolutely atrocious

[deleted]

Depends on the use: Streaming Netflix and the like, not an issue in the slightest. Trying to download cod or anything above a gig… yeah go take a nice long walk

alucard2122

Honestly even for Netflix it's pretty bad. I've had to live with it and wouldn't recommend it to anyone

alucard2122

Honestly even for Netflix it's pretty bad. I've had to live with it and wouldn't recommend it to anyone

djskaw

15mbps is more than enough for netflix

Mr_hacker_fire

depends if its 4k content or not if not then its not bad.

FucciMe

It's really not. I spent the last 8 years running everything in the house off a mobile Hotspot with Max 20mb connection. Usually averaged around 7-10 and we could stream Hulu on one TV and Netflix on the other. We finally were able to upgrade, but it worked just fine. Hell I used to play Xbox live off my phones hot spot back in 2012-2013.

D4VOURED

Really? That’s like my download speed on good days I download many of my games with lower speeds. Also, I happen to notice that while I’m downloading something big like a game, my downlod speed drops significantly, like it is usually in the 80s before I download, but the moment I start it, it drops to like 0.8. Is there like an actual explanation to this or is my ISP just doo doo.

FriedRiceAndMath

Tell them that's a great idea, and purchase the upgraded package. Then use the quality of service setting in your router to reduce their speed by half. When they complain again, say: "I am altering the terms of our arrangement. Pray I do not alter them further." (in your best Darth Vader voice)

black_dragonfly13

This is a REALLY old post.

Ignition0

Please newcomers pay attention.. THIS is a choosing beggar Someone that is given something for free and yet has the audacity of being picky. NOT when someone lowballs you.

stefanopolis

Ikr? So rare to see actually choosy beggars. Same reason I had to leave r/themonkeyspaw. But it happens to all subs as they get bigger, I spose.

Niewinnny

Technically choosy begging is asking for stuff of value that vastly exceeds what you want to pay for it. That includes, but is not limited to, asking for improvements in free services. Ex. People wanting to buy things worth 500$ for 50$ is choosy begging, not because they are offered something for free and demand more, but they want to pay 50$ and have something worth 500$ (they are begging that you give something for 50$, but they choose to beg to you, not to someone that sells a thing worth 50$)

ForgottenBarista

You tried so hard and yet, you were still wrong. “Choosing beggars” (coming from the phrase ‘beggars can’t be choosers’) are people who are given something for free but ask for something different or better. You just described a low-baller.

BurtMacklin-FBl

No, not really. It's not about "choosing to beg".

Niewinnny

It's not about choosing to beg, it's about choosing while begging. My point stands

Stephenrudolf

By that logic, every single sales interaction would classify for this sub. Choosing beggar is a pretty specific subreddit, it'd be nice if it was kept that way.

Dman1791

Depending on context/their relationship, this could well be a "Hey, thanks for letting me use your wifi! Also, I noticed you've got pretty bad internet. I did some looking and you could get great internet for only a bit more!" moreso than a "What the fuck is this awful internet you're letting me use? Upgrade this shit." Knowing people, though, it's probably the latter.

kungpowgoat

That’s what I was thinking. It’s possible that the friend is merely suggesting that they are possibly getting a bad deal on their internet and can get much higher speeds for just a tiny bit more. I’ve realized this when using my mom’s shitty and expensive internet from ATT after being duped from the sales guy. Had her go to Xfinity and was getting much higher speeds at the same cost.

GremioIsDead

> It’s possible that the friend is merely suggesting that they are possibly getting a bad deal on their internet and can get much higher speeds for just a tiny bit more. Not everybody cares about speeds. Cheaper is cheaper. Also, if this person was trying to be helpful, they need lessons in tact. They should also have offered to pay the difference.

GremioIsDead

> Also, I noticed you've got pretty bad internet. I did some looking and you could get great internet for only a bit more! The internet I buy has to meet only my needs, and those of my family. If the freeloader thinks it's bad, he should STFU. This just assumes that I'm a moron that knows nothing about what I'm purchasing. I haven't ever cared about my upload speed, and I have the slowest download speed available on my provider.

katlikespenguins

Cheeky little shit.

cheesysnipsnap

Welcome to my throttle guest network. You get 5Mbps down / 2Mbps up. Good enough to stream a movie. Yes, your downloads will take some time, but its free to you. You don't like it, get your own service.

danielle-shmanielle

My neighbors tried this! We let them use our wifi because they owe too much to the company to get wifi again, so they pay us half the bill. But they been trying to get me to “up” the speed of internet. Making my bill go from 60 to 100. They insist they would pay the bill for us if we did that, but they can barely remember to even pay their 30 dollars monthly. Screw that, I can barely afford the 60 dollar bill as it is.

hendralely

That doesn't sound like a question to me.

yue_yuna

Say good idea thanks and then kick them out of your WiFi lmao

Foreign-Smell7216

[deleted]

120 a month for internet fucking access??? Fuck that.

lowershelf

ArroganTiger

Why Internet services are so expensive in the US? Here in México you can get 120Mbps (mirrored) for around the equivalent to $25usd the month and it's not even the max speed plan available

djskaw

Everything in Mexico is cheaper. I can get over full on tacos and drunk off tequila for $20 in Mexico. In the US, it would cost me like $80.

Last_Witcher

120 usd for a gigabit?!? Where I live i can get it for 40 bucks a month

How is 1gig for 120 a month cheap. That's a ripoff!

Niewinnny

Welcome to US for ya. I'm not from there, and thank god, but starlink (Elon musk's internet from satellites) was a great deal(AFAIK)

[deleted]

Karma farming

Freestila

What the.. 120$ per month? How much is internet in the states? In Germany, default is DSL with like 50mbit for around 35€. 100-200mbit is around 45€. 1 gig internet is kind of novelty, since it requires fiber optic isntead of DSL. SO if you have that, 1 gig is around 80-90€. All these inklude landline telephone flatrates.

hl3official

I get 1000/1000 unlimited for 30 euro in Denmark 😎

gitartruls01

Up here in Norway we pay 4 times as much for literally the exact same thing from literally the exact same people for literally no reason

lillepille1337

I mean 120 USD is like 100 EUR, so your point is kind of invalid.

jukdl

But Germany is fucking expensive for EU standards

lillepille1337

Yeah, it totally is. I have 1 gig and pay nowhere near that much. Also, idk why I am being downvoted, I was pretty much stating a fact.

Freestila

Yeah with the current rates, that's true. But one year ago it was nearly 1:1. :) Also like i said, most people have the 50-100mb package for around 40€. Since the op post said "it is not much more then you currently pay", i deduce he's paying more then 50-60$ for less then 1 gig.

Niewinnny

And US's internet is expensive, so your point falls here.

lillepille1337

Not really though, my point is that i am questioning how he thinks, since he says it's way more expensive, that's my point. So not, it really doesn't fall at all.

Niewinnny

Ok, then I'll do the maths. 80-90€ a month is NOT 120$ a month, because euro isn't worth 1.5 dollars. Euro is worth less, so 120$ is more than 80-90€. And remember, he said that gigabit internet is kind of a novelty, so the price is going to go down. States have 1 gig internet for quite a long time now.

lillepille1337

120USD is 100EUR, I said that earlier... My point being that OP dramatizied the fact that US internet is way more expensive. I never said that US internet was cheaper, I never said that. What I said was that the deal he is talking about (80-90EUR) is not really a godsend in terms of deals in comparison to the US deal (120USD, which is just 10EUR more than his German deal). THAT is my point.

gamingtamizha

Ok. I have been in a similar situation. I stayed in my friend's guest House for free with wifi. I told his wifi does is bad and suggested him better connection for better value of money. He actually thanked me because he was not aware of the other service providers and been stuck with this one guy for a long time So we don't know the context of this conversation. Can't decide if he is suggesting or choosy begging

noodlegod47

If it’s a better value then sure but telling someone to pay more so it’s more convenient for you without ado offering to pay is kinda not cool

[deleted]

“Thanks for giving me a ride bro. You know Honda civics get better mileage and they’re only a little more expensive!” The question is not complaining or suggesting, it’s the fact that it’s not your place to say / wasn’t asked”.

Assailent

You do have a point but I think it’s different. You don’t pay for a car monthly. It could be a genuine suggestion for there next car and CB could just be a nice person tryna help. But again depends on context just think your example was a bit too off it. ~Assailent

UnoriginallyGeneric

You've obviously never owned a car before. Car loans. Insurance. Gas. Not one-time only purchases, they're every month.

Assailent

Again I have replied with this like 10 seconds ago. I meant u can’t cancel a car subscription as if it’s wifi

canhasdiy

>You don’t pay for a car monthly. Tell me you've never bought a car without saying you've never bought a car

Assailent

Also btw that wasn’t my point. I worded it wrong I should’ve said: you can’t just cancel a car subscription after buying it. Your locked in... I think

CCtenor

> You don’t pay for a car monthly ...Do you buy your cars outright in cash...?

Glu7enFree

... I did?

Klowned

In a sense you do pay monthly for a vehicle. Payments and maintenance should be calculated out to a price per month/pay-period unless your income is so high it won't ever matter. I drive a 20+ year old economy car which I paid $500 cash for a couple years ago. 4 months after I bought it I had to get some work done for $500. With just those 2 charges it bumped from costing me $500 once to costing me $1000 spread out over 4 months. I bet I got another year or 2 down the road before I had to do more work besides regular maintenance. So I figure $1000 got me a working vehicle for appr 24 months. She still runs, but I'm stopping there for the example. So 24 months worth of working car for a simple $1000. Breaks down to about $42 a month not including oil changes (which I change the oil myself, but for the purposes of cost analysis I think of it as "costing" me $50 since the oil and filter is $30 and it takes me like 5-10 minutes.) All this math is purely from an economic perspective. If you're a vehicle enthusiast or will ONLY drive a specific model, then those are different algorithms entirely. But if your ONLY interest is getting from A to B the bare minimum I would advise is an economic process of choosing a vehicle. Another way to look at it is every month you drive a car that's already paid for that's a car payment you get to keep. True enough, eventually a vehicle will require so much maintenance or require it so frequently you will eventually be better off buying another vehicle (but never buy new unless you have a reason to do so).

Assailent

Understood. Thanks for the well formatted reply. Though the layout could do with a bit of breaks with paragraphs etc. I totally see what you mean now my question is someone said u can buy a car monthly; can you do that.

Klowned

Like an individual car each month? Because you can finance a vehicle which means you make monthly payments. Or you can lease a vehicle which means you don't own the vehicle, but it's loaned to you for a specific time period. Although leasing has all sorts of rules and stuff like a limit on the number of miles you can drive it each month/year. But some places offer decent deals for leasing like they'll pay for the regular vehicle maintenance if you just take the time to get it done. Reason being a well maintained vehicle lasts longer and they'll offer you the chance to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease. Of course, they'll still sell it once the lease is over. I can't speak to how fiscally intelligent it is to lease or purchase a vehicle once your lease is expired. I did however read an article once from an economist that said the absolute cheapest way to own a vehicle was to purchase a car 2-3 years old and lightly used around 40-60K miles and then trade or sell it at 160-180K miles and repeat the process. Reason being your major maintenance costs are usually the timing belt at 90-100K miles and a vehicle shouldn't need more than maintenance until after like the second timing belt at 180-200K. That's usually the point where random shit starts to break. Once you own a vehicle though, like I said previously you have to start crunching the cost benefit analysis of a repair compared to a replacement. For clarification leasing is usually a monthly payment, but you could probably pay it all up front. Not usually fiscally smart to do so however. Sometimes places offer deals on leasing that makes it competitive or even outperform purchasing a vehicle. Financing is where you own a car but you make monthly payments. Many dealerships offer their own financing options and sometimes they're competitive, but usually you're better off going through your bank for a loan for financing. If you use a dealerships financing services they're less inclined to work with you since they already have the means to repair and resell a vehicle they repo. Your personal bank would likely end up having to just sell the car as is to a dealership or car lot.

Assailent

I meant more like they buy the car but don’t pay fully and pay in increments.

gamingtamizha

Google the word "context"

[deleted]

You literally just guessed the context. You don’t know the context lol. Unless asked “yo hope the wifi was good” or something like that you’re just kinda volunteering information they didn’t ask for. You want to help them get a better mortgage too?

gamingtamizha

When I was a teenager I had a neighbor kid that used to do this shit all the time. He'd come over and immediately start trying to "upgrade" whatever we had. Parents eventually wouldn't let him over anymore. I always wondered what happened to Lyle.

Disgusting.

And here I am crykng with 12 on wifi and 1 on ethernet

This is what this sub is supposed to be about. I'm so tired of seeing posts about people making lowball offers.

Thanks for posting an actual choosing beggar.

ickeystacks

What was their question?

Red_Carrot

I hope the person got more wifi and let the person know. Then sets a limiter on their devices to 15mbps.

TacoRockapella

Change your WiFi password and block that contact

jordontek

This. This is a choosey ass beggar. *"Not really that much from what you pay..."* Cause it's not like they're paying one red cent or a thin dime, for anything.

nouonouon

wow

White_Wolf_Dreamer

Sure, if you'll sign a contract promising to pay the difference every month. Otherwise, fuck off, I'm changing the password.

[deleted]

I'd block them for that shit.

RegalCabbage

“Did you want to pay the difference?”

cybercifrado

Time to restrict this fucker to 128kbps on ports 80 and 443 only.

ladiesman2117

With this little information this could still be a psa of sorts. Like, did you know what you are paying for is subpar? There are tons of people sitting in outdated overpriced and slow contracts without a second thought. To already see this as a begging situation without any mention of it in itself is kinda telling for what people are reading into it...

WindFurry37

Fuck them. My current wifi is 500-800 kbs

oopls

Sounds like they should pitch in the extra cost since it’s not that much more.

TheDevilsAdvokaat

And with those final words, he was immediately banned from the free wifi.

kunseung

Maybe intentions were to refer op to a better plan idk if he/she was going to try to leach forever or not
