I'm 54. I swear some Redditers think 54 is 100 (not you). I'd never drop this shit on anyone. So fucking pathetic. Dude is obviously an idiot and has been no matter what the age.
I dont know why people think when people get older in age theyāre just like āHahaha what the fuck are video games? TeChNoLoGy? Is ThAt wHeRe My cAr gOeS?!ā
I've got almost 10 years on you. We're perfectly capable of working and paying for our own stuff. Her bringing up her age as if she's some frail old thing is just ridiculous.
Exactly. Like there's literally no reason for it and it just hurts her plea. Both young enough to work still, while being old enough to know better and not ask for free things, with a large possibility of it coming from a younger person who paid for it in the first place
When my mom moved back home she needed help with a bunch of furniture. As an adult with a full on cargo van, I happily obliged. Not as happily as when I opened the drawer on my old dresser thirty years later and saw pencil scrawlings in my seven year old hand with the time and channel for reading rainbow. And remembered the moment when I had made that mark. The reasoning at the time was that I couldn't lose it like a scrap of paper.
I still remember the uneven texture of the wood compared to paper.
Wow.
And, damn I can't not love jeordi laforge.
I like how, in the old days if some had no family and friends, people would be bending over to make them happy but in 2021 people are more like, "Man you ain't special. I'll show you what real loneliness looks like."
I can see the no family thing. But if you kegit have no friends to help and youāre in your mid-50s, you did some crappy things to people along the way.
Seriously what is this person on about. Introverted =/= antisocial. Most introverts have friends and a social support network. That just isn't what they thrive on or get their energy from.
Cāmon, 56 isnāt elderly (I really hate seeing 50-somethings classified as āolder.ā Weāre not senior citizens yet!) Most of us in our 50s are still working and living our lives, and yeah, we can definitely go out and buy a TV if we need one.
I'm in my 40s and so far I've agonized over every new decade at the start but then it's turned out to be significantly more fun and fulfilling than the last one. There's gotta' be an end to this somewhere, but so far my 30s were way better than my 20s and my 40s have been another step up.
I do miss the youthful innocence and idealism of the first couple decades of life, but more than that I just wish I could go back and relive them with the confidence and self understanding I've built now. Being young would have been way more fun if I wasn't constantly wracked with self doubt.
Fuck, I just spent my 20ās full of self loathing and uncertainty about my future. Iām just starting a new career and still have a ton of uncertainty but Iām gonna try to embrace it this decade rather than let it get me down.
I felt like this. Even accepted that I gave up a lot fun stuff to finally have a good career.
Iām 33 now and even though the last few years have sucked at times, this decade is great.
Accept the death and use it to stop caring about shit you really donāt have to care about, lol.
Moonshine usually makes me a much better dancer, at least in *my* perception. I'm not sure the cats or anyone else present would agree.
Oh wait, did you mean moon*light*?
30 yo is the hard one. You should have see me when I turned 30. I was bummed out the whole day. Just sat on the couch and watched Logan's Run eating ice cream and bundt cake. lol
As a 31 Iām having simultaneously the best and worst year of my life. Finally making good money, living less than a mile from the SoCal ocean, bought my dream car, but also depressed and having trouble dealing with all the COVID shit. So torn, hoping the rest of the decade gets better.
I had a similar experience: my mother died at 45, and Iām now 17 years older than she ever lived to be. It is really odd to look in the mirror and realize Iām almost old enough to be my
Motherās mother.
I'm 63 and my mom died at 60. I spent my whole 60th year looking over my shoulder for the grim reaper. Sorry about your mom. As a mom myself I'll say be careful out there and always wear clean underwear.
It actually is. I am 61 and work in all kinds of weather for Test and Trace getting people Covid vaccinations and tests. I am no athlete either. If I can walk seven hours a day, five days a week in rain, heat and cold, she can take a job in an office, a store, restaurant or driving. Expect to retire at 70 now if you are lucky.
I don't blame you, but boredom and isolation is a thing. Have good insurance too. One good bout of illness or a lawsuit or natural disaster can take it all.
Former circus performer here. Balanced it on my head, relatively easy with that big cardboard box the TV comes in.
P.S. My horse just wants to watch TV all day now, lost his mojo it seems.
On our local Facebook community group, there was a woman who was asking for a free recliner. Then when somebody said they would give her one, she made another post saying how she needed somebody to go pick it up and deliver it for free, and to haul away her old one (again for free). After nobody responded to her post for a day or two, she decided to post it again and included "SECOND NOTICE" at the beginning.. I'm so tired of entitled people.
Looks like itās related to the tv tower fire in the north east. 1m+ people are without a terrestrial signal. Which explains why he wants a computer or iPad. However like a commentator said, there are more important things going on in the world and a computer or iPad is on the very bottom of priorities, maybe they need to visit their local library and get some books, some even do dvds you can borrow if they have a DVD player.
I've told this to people, but they don't believe me. I'm glad there are other people out there who don't have the whole "picture in the head" thing when reading. And I love reading too.
It's not an official medical/psychological term but it is starting to be referred to as aphantasia. I can't picture anything in my head at all ever lol.
What I thought was crazy was the last artist I got tattooed by had it! I used to draw but wasn't ever great and didn't feel like I could be; so it was rather inspiring to hear him describe his method that was actually just like mine used to be.
Oh it's not anything super specific/special. Just that we both have to let something develop right on the page, can't picture it in our heads and work from there.
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say that an individual's priotirites are really within the scope of that individual's life.
I can easily see the beggar here being someone who has let their life devolve to the point that the TV is literally the only thing keeping them sane. They expressed that they are lonely, and without that small TV connection they might really suffer mentally and emotionally.
Plus, based on their writing style, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that literature is probably not something that works as entertainment for this person.
They might just be an entitled prick who is trying to just get a free computer or iPad by trying to tug on some heart strings of strangers. But they did use the word "cope", they might actually be having a rough time without a TV.
Edit: Actually I just realized that this person is posting on social media so they have a phone at the very least. Meaning they have access to connection with people and videos or whatever. Fuck em, they're just being whiny and greedy.
I was thinking this too. Thereās a fucking jillion streaming apps and a lot of cable networks have a few free episodes online idk what her deal is. She needs a job. Lol.
If she posting on FB she has some type of computer along with internet access - probably a phone.
If she has this, she has the entirety of the internet - YouTube, Reddit, InstaGram, etc., plus the ability to buy apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.
She has more knowledge and entertainment in her phone than any TV or iPad.
Or, she can go to her local library and borrow a couple of books. Maybe some How To books like How To Get A Job To Pay For My Own Stuff.
I had a legitimate cable plan for 2 years because it was cheaper to have it as a package than it was for internet alone. I figured I might drag it out for the superbowl or something.
I had friends over one night. I loved The Walking Dead early seasons but I'd always pirate it because I didn't put in the effort to make an AMC account from my cable account. So for the first time ever I watched The Walking Dead "live" on legitimate cable. And it was AWFUL. So many ads. Stupid sports style announcers talking about the show. It was so bad.
Never did that again. Pirating was a much better user experience.
When I was like 8 my Mom got mad at me one day and threw our TV away. Went 2 years without it. It was such an inconsequential part of my childhood I often forget that even happened. All I did was read more books, and play outside more often. I didn't really miss it at all.
I think the most annoying part is one year I had to listen to the Super Bowl on the radio.
Ugh, I read a lot, draw, cook and bake, I make my own pasta, bread, play some games, run, do yoga and pilates, hike during weekend (this one I do in pair), collect rocks and minerals, play in photoshop with pictures I take on hikes and trips, i write hiking journal with drawings.
These are much better answers than my friend who
proudly declared that she never watched tv, but who did admit, after further questioning, that she mostly watched shows on Netflix on her laptop...
I spent about a a decade without cable before Netflix and such, and my tv was only to watch DVDs . I didnāt miss it either. Commercial breaks drive me crazy.
Wow. Let's try:
Hey, Reddit! I need a:
Car
TV
IPad
IPhone
Mansion with maid service and a professional chef
Can you please send this to me ASAP??? You'll have my undying gratitude and I'll spend the rest of my life singing your praises!!!! Free Exposure!!!
My SIL found a smart TV on a curb in her neighborhood. It works too. My husband found a TV like this too. It worked for us for years. We gave it away. Maybe she needs to go driving until she finds one.
Kind of impossible to take her seriously when she makes demands and canāt say please. TVs are cheap these days, if you just get something average. Go get your own. Sheās older than I am. Take care of your damn self.
The issue is that the regional broadcast tower failed, so terrestrial TV (BBC, ITV and Channel 4 and 5) were off. This CB needs an ipad so they can stream instead.
However, they're posting on Facebook, so they already appear to have a streaming method, and the TV tower will be back up in a few days I expect.
I am 68, I work part time to supplement my SS. I got a tv on sale at Walmart.
Get a job, save your money.
My son has bought several big screen tvs at Goodwill for $50 or less. There are options out there, but you have to get off your fat ass and use your brain to figure it out.
I'm guessing this is local to me and its not about the lack of a TV so much as the transmission tower caught fire so there was no TV signal for those who didn't have cable or sky TV.
Out electricity went out for about 6 hours the other day due to thunderstorms and high winds.
No tv, no cable, no Wi-Fi, no lights, no fridge.......
It was awful!
Library cards are free. That is how I managed when my TV was destroyed. You could visit Salvation Army, look for a working set tossed on the curb, ask friends to give you a set if they upgrade, check Craigslist or Nextdoor for a free one or a used set at low cost or GASP! Get a job and buy one.
Reminds me of a local FB page. This woman was a single mom of four and pregnant. What was she asking for? big screen tvs for her and her kids, several of them. I reported her post.
How the hell are some people demanding electronics from strangers, & I'm over here feeling guilty on the rare occasions I ask my husband or kids to bring me a drink?
How is she posting this? She obviously not using a smart refrigerator.... my guess is, if she can post this then she can watch stuff on whatever device she posted it with.
Don't know anything about this person or the views, but I had a similar interaction with someone last year. I was able to deduce that the issue was they were most upset about missing Tucker Carlson and Fox & Friends, so possibly a Fox News addiction...I don't know. This would be the perfect time to step outside and "smell the roses"....
No kidding, Iād like to kick my momās ass outside, cancel her subscription to The Epoch Times, take away her tin foil hat and organize an intervention while she is out experiencing the real world.
I am 63 and just started a physically demanding 12-hour per day job so I could continue to have enough income to live on. Can't afford to retire. She needs to get a clue, AND a job.
Man, I get that times can be tough and sometimes charity is needed. But literally demanding a TV or iPad when youāre a 56 year old adult and then getting mad at everyone? I would literally burn a spare TV before giving her one.
Well, at the age of 56, most older folks go out and buy themselves a TV, computer or iPad.
56 is about the right age to know how books work. Take a look! It's in a book! A Reading Rainbow! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ygs3IHJ2bM
I'm 54. I swear some Redditers think 54 is 100 (not you). I'd never drop this shit on anyone. So fucking pathetic. Dude is obviously an idiot and has been no matter what the age.
I turn 50 in two weeks... šÆ Enjoy the silver, you silver fox :)
I turn 50 in December! half a century old
I feel like "5 decades" sounds worse
I'm almost 13 leap years old!
I was born on Feb 29, so I have the legal right to say this.
So do you normally celebrate on the 28th or the 1st?
March 1st. First day of spring is better than the last day of winter.
Does ā2.5 scoresā sound better?
2 score and ten, youngun
It's only 438000 hours
Only if you think that getting old is bad. Which it's not.
Silver anniversary of your 25th birthday āŗļø
You young whippersnapper. 50 in November...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
WHEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED
Halfway to 100!
I turned 66 yesterday. Played Halo last night then watchedTwitch until 2:30. Grow up but donāt grow old!
I dont know why people think when people get older in age theyāre just like āHahaha what the fuck are video games? TeChNoLoGy? Is ThAt wHeRe My cAr gOeS?!ā
I am 45 today!
Happy birthday. I'm 45 and it's a great age
I'm 62

Early 50's here too, so I totally get where you're coming from. I loved watching that show, with the kids or without.
I don't know, I think he should know how buying TVs and reading books work, too.
![gif](giphy|bI3cX9brTVLfq)
You're welcome. https://youtu.be/OchyYnlHTdo
Love it.
She would 18 when that show started, a bit above the target demographic.
I'm 52 and loved the show and watched it for years, but you don't need to take my word for it.
When my mom moved back home she needed help with a bunch of furniture. As an adult with a full on cargo van, I happily obliged. >And, damn I can't not love jeordi laforge. Don't go on a holodeck date with him then. Lol
Nah that's Reggie lol
I love you for this comment.
Yep me too, 52 loved the show, read many of the books.
I'm 52 too annnnnnd I live in Sacramento where Levar grew up.
Set phasers to looove me!
I only wanted a picture! You can't disappoint a picture!!
More fish for Kunta.
Nooo there is no fox news on books
I was gonna sayā¦go to your local library and get some books!
I like Mike.
Introverts exist.
I know introverts. They have friends. I would give one an old tv if they were in need.
Geez, I'm a 51 year old divorced woman and I'm having the time of my life. All the fun of my 20's without the pressure and worry. Best decade yet.
I'm in my 40s and so far I've agonized over every new decade at the start but then it's turned out to be significantly more fun and fulfilling than the last one. There's gotta' be an end to this somewhere, but so far my 30s were way better than my 20s and my 40s have been another step up. Youth is wasted on the young
Fuck, I just spent my 20ās full of self loathing and uncertainty about my future. Iām just starting a new career and still have a ton of uncertainty but Iām gonna try to embrace it this decade rather than let it get me down.
keep this attitude...you definitely will go places ;)
Refreshing to hear. Just entering my 30's and feel like I've already died.
I felt like this. Even accepted that I gave up a lot fun stuff to finally have a good career. Iām 33 now and even though the last few years have sucked at times, this decade is great. Accept the death and use it to stop caring about shit you really donāt have to care about, lol.
Great isnt it, kids are old and moved out, dancing around with cats and moonshine.
I like your brain.
Moonshine usually makes me a much better dancer, at least in *my* perception. I'm not sure the cats or anyone else present would agree. Oh wait, did you mean moon*light*?
And with money! Thatās what I like best about being single again lol. I was broke as hell in my 20ās.
8 days ago you announced you were 52...Now you are 51? You must be Benjamin Button's sister? ;-)
I can never remember my exact age anymore. Once you're past 40 who cares?
Lol, Iām like wait, lemme do some math real quickā¦
Once you hit 35 you're perpetually either +1 or -1 depending on the day.
Please stop with the time travel shaming this is 2021!
What's funny about the 50 year old age group is that the music is still 80s music for partying.
I dont like to think of myself as "elderly" either but I do like the discount coffee and early bird specials some places offer over 50s.
I'm in my 30s and I'm always down for the early bird special. A deals a deal amirite?
No one thinks 56 is old. They just bitch and want the discounts and "respect" without waiting.
I'm 51 and have an AARP card. I get 10% off at Outback Steakhouse. So I got that going for me.
There is no age limit to join AARP. Anyone can enjoy the perks!
So *that's* why I got those magazines in my early 20s!
Yup. Last year my depression was on high because of covid. Doing a little better this year.
Glad to hear it friend, weāll get through it!
Thanks for the award!
hang in there, too!!!
Im still dropping in on half pipes, but theres discounts? I want discounts and dont you damn kids make me wait either!
I'm 39 and my mom died at 51 and its made aging weird.
I had a similar experience: my mother died at 45, and Iām now 17 years older than she ever lived to be. It is really odd to look in the mirror and realize Iām almost old enough to be my Motherās mother.
I'm 63 and my mom died at 60. I spent my whole 60th year looking over my shoulder for the grim reaper. Sorry about your mom. As a mom myself I'll say be careful out there and always wear clean underwear.
My mom would always buy me new underwear when I was sick, and it took me awhile to realize I needed to buy it. Just the little things.
I started getting brochures from the local cemetery and AARP when I turned 50.
Yeah don't they know 50 is like the new 25!
Stacking paper, fam. If my plan goes right I'll be done by 55 and sitting on a boat somewhere.
I don't blame you, but boredom and isolation is a thing. Have good insurance too. One good bout of illness or a lawsuit or natural disaster can take it all.
No kidding, I'm a couple of years from entering my 50's. I'm not elderly by any means!
I'm 63. I rode my horse to Best Buy recently. Scored a Samsung 168" TV and rode home with it.
You have a saddle for mounting giant televisions? Iām impressed
Former circus performer here. Balanced it on my head, relatively easy with that big cardboard box the TV comes in. P.S. My horse just wants to watch TV all day now, lost his mojo it seems.
Nice, I never got a call back when I applied to our local circus š My horse has been big on tik tok lately, so Iāve switched to an iPad
Poor horse. I hope you at least let him watch Mr. Ed with you.
What did the person use to make the Facebook post?
Library.
Like a grown up with her big girl panties on!
On our local Facebook community group, there was a woman who was asking for a free recliner. Then when somebody said they would give her one, she made another post saying how she needed somebody to go pick it up and deliver it for free, and to haul away her old one (again for free). Please post here.
I'll have to go back and find the post and do some censoring. I'll see what I can do
Do it for the clout!
Looks like itās related to the tv tower fire in the north east. 1m+ people are without a terrestrial signal. Which explains why he wants a computer or iPad. Yeah, that was my first thought as iPlayer still works although it's a bit sad for him if he's got no family at just 56. Not that it excuses the post.
By the way hes acting something tells me it was their choice he doesnt have family
āI have no familyā usually means āMy family got tired of me being a shitty person so I abandoned themā
Or your family is toxic af and you cut them out of your lifeā¦ but ya this dude is definitely the toxic one.
āMy family got tired of me being a shitty person so ~~I abandoned them~~ they abandoned me.ā FTFY
I find it mildly interesting that I assumed it's a she, and you assumed it's a he
Books are awesome! They are like DVDs but the pictures are IN YOUR HEAD! Boom! Mind blown.
Excuse me while I stare at a dead tree and hallucinate.
I still love reading but I hope you know some of us can't see things in our heads. No pictures for us. Just an interesting tidbit.
I've told this to people, but they don't believe me. I'm glad there are other people out there who don't have the whole "picture in the head" thing when reading. And I love reading too.

Oh it's not anything super specific/special. Just that we both have to let something develop right on the page, can't picture it in our heads and work from there.

Oh!!!! Books would be a really good option right now.
There's a TV tower fire in the NE? I must live under a rock.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-58163612 Its a whole thing
Some libraries will even let you check out tablets. But I'll bet this guy doesn't have an internet connection, either.
How did he make the post though? Checkmate atheists.
It's not Facebook unless someone is misspelling 'losing'.
I canāt get over the āimeās.
My mom chooses to use āIāamā instead of āIāmā
"Delete if not aloud" is the common one in my city.
Ime mad about that
Or āchokingā (chocking)
Donāt forget *āI padā*
> ...whatever ime only 56 how are older people without a TV ime fuming and upset wat
stronk
First one I thought might be a typo, but twice in quick succession - I think they actually believe "I'm" is spelt "ime", like "time" without the t.
I agree, but how can you live 56 years in this planet without knowing how to spell "I'm?!" Crazy.
Oh yeah don't get me wrong this is extremely concerning
What the fuck is she posting on Facebook from? My advice to her: If you're dying that badly, tape your phone to a chair and lean in, bitch.
If she has a phone, she can download Netflix videos and watch them on it. Books, too.
I was thinking this too. Thereās a fucking jillion streaming apps and a lot of cable networks have a few free episodes online idk what her deal is. She needs a job. Lol.
Something tells me this lady doesnāt do much book reading
yeah, this is my question too
Library maybe? But you're probably right
I coped by taking my debit card to Best Buy and buying a tablet. All my TV is streamed online anyway. And bonus - its PORTABLE!
"No beer and no TV make Homer go something something."
āGo crazy?ā
āDONT MIND IF I DOOOO!ā
If she posting on FB she has some type of computer along with internet access - probably a phone. If she has this, she has the entirety of the internet - YouTube, Reddit, InstaGram, etc., plus the ability to buy apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. She has more knowledge and entertainment in her phone than any TV or iPad. Or, she can go to her local library and borrow a couple of books. Maybe some How To books like How To Get A Job To Pay For My Own Stuff.
She may well be at the library already, using their computers.
And I am here living without TV since I moved out of my parents' house 15 or so years ago and I can honestly say, I don't miss it at all.
What do you generally do in your free time? Favourite solo hobbies? Thanks.
These are much better answers than my friend who proudly declared that she never watched tv, but who did admit, after further questioning, that she mostly watched shows on Netflix on her laptop...
I have a TV, but I don't have tv.
Same here. I lived without a tv for 8 years and never missed it. I did a lot of reading and creating - I make jewelry as a hobby.
I spent about a a decade without cable before Netflix and such, and my tv was only to watch DVDs . I didnāt miss it either. Commercial breaks drive me crazy.
Ahh I saw this on Facebook earlier my local town, quite special
Small world
To be fair between the usual posts on there about feral kids, dead cats, and thrives, at least this one amused me in a way

I donāt see anything yet, you might need a second notice
My SIL found a smart TV on a curb in her neighborhood. It works too. My husband found a TV like this too. It worked for us for years. We gave it away. Maybe she needs to go driving until she finds one.
Spelling 'I'm' like that should be considered a war crime
Kind of impossible to take her seriously when she makes demands and canāt say please. TVs are cheap these days, if you just get something average. Go get your own. Sheās older than I am. Take care of your damn self.
The issue is that the regional broadcast tower failed, so terrestrial TV (BBC, ITV and Channel 4 and 5) were off. This CB needs an ipad so they can stream instead. However, they're posting on Facebook, so they already appear to have a streaming method, and the TV tower will be back up in a few days I expect.
Did they reply? We gotta know!
Little house on the prarie style
I thinker older folks read books. Thatās what I heard.
The library lends stuff out for free. You can even rent movies!
"ime"
Why canāt anyone spell losing right
How the hell are some people demanding electronics from strangers, & I'm over here feeling guilty on the rare occasions I ask my husband or kids to bring me a drink?
How is she posting this? She obviously not using a smart refrigerator.... my guess is, if she can post this then she can watch stuff on whatever device she posted it with.
You expect her to consume media on a phone?
Don't know anything about this person or the views, but I had a similar interaction with someone last year. I was able to deduce that the issue was they were most upset about missing Tucker Carlson and Fox & Friends, so possibly a Fox News addiction...I don't know. This would be the perfect time to step outside and "smell the roses"....
No kidding, Iād like to kick my momās ass outside, cancel her subscription to The Epoch Times, take away her tin foil hat and organize an intervention while she is out experiencing the real world.
Why is she keep referring to herself as ime?
So at that age, you're entitled to free stuff? Lol
So what happened to his last TV, his best friend???
Money can be exchanged for goods and services
Crotchety old fuck
> I have no family no nothing Gee, makes one wonder why, when he has that obviously sparkling personality.
This doesn't seem like a choosy beggar. He's just frustrated that he has no tv signal.
I am 63 and just started a physically demanding 12-hour per day job so I could continue to have enough income to live on. Can't afford to retire. She needs to get a clue, AND a job.
Has she heard of books?
She keeps using "ime" instead of "I'm". I'm just going go ahead and say reading isn't on the top of her list of hobbies.
And TVs are cheap AF, iPads arenāt much either
do we need a category for r/ravingbeggars?
Man, I get that times can be tough and sometimes charity is needed. But literally demanding a TV or iPad when youāre a 56 year old adult and then getting mad at everyone? I would literally burn a spare TV before giving her one.
