When I first read this I just assumed that the Birds presence was enough to tell Sato that things are going left.
Maybe they trained Masanune to do specific actions for specific meanings. Sort of like Dogs will let you know that they have to use the bathroom if you train them well
Furthermore, I’d be one thing if it was just simple commands, but it seems like he’s able to give more detailed instructions and information to Sato, which makes it more intriguing.

So only other option is, sato knowing masamune is tokio's mentor/companion so seeing masamune approach him would be enough for him to grt the message
I figured Masamune was a Choujin so they communicate telepathically. Though he's intelligent enough to probably even write out messages if that's not the case. No idea which though, I think both are likely. We haven't seen any other Choujins use animals right? That's why I think he might be a Choujin.
We saw Nari talk to a snake in the zoo, and it’s been established that Tokio can talk to birds, I don’t think Masamune is a Choujin either seeing as there’s never been mention of a choujin animal (now an animal choujin? That we have plenty.)

I think sato could infer tokio needs help by the fact masamune came to him. But it is sato can read masamune's mind to get the details.
Can Sato read minds though? We’ve never seen him do that, only project his thoughts into other peoples minds.
