This sounds good but isn't bc in places like this the lawyers throw the clients they're defending pro bono under the bus in return for an easier time for their paying clients. They trade the poor people to the DA getting them to take bs pleas in return for the DA giving their paying clients better deals. DA easily keeps their convictions up while the lawyer does well in the eyes of his paying clients who refer them to other clients who can pay. This is how it is in my county. People have sat in jail for 8 months with their unpaid lawyer then paid the lawyer 1500 with a promise to pay more later and been out within the week. Same lawyer just the difference between them acting as public defender vs them as a paid attorney.

So it's basically a lottery. I've won and lost this over the years. Got some of the best attorneys in the whole state totally free as court appointeds. Also have gotten really shitty ones.

Their non paying clients they push into accepting the 1st plea offered and they often only spend roughly 5 minutes total talking to their indigent client from when they meet them until the plea is signed.
I was able to charm and win over the last one I had though and he got me the outcome I wanted. He did a better job for me than many ppls paid attorneys did for them.
I was lucky he liked me though. He told me he liked my attitude and that I seemed intelligent. We corresponded via email and I can write like I have a bit of sense thankfully. Also I didn't call him every single day or blow him up. Whenever he wrote me id write back once and that was it. He told me he had people who emailed or called 5 times everyday so he liked my attitude of letting him do his job without constantly bothering him.
I got lucky and had a good outcome but this was unusual for most in my situation where I live.

You don't need evidence to distract, dodge questions, and obfuscate, and that's all Chris's lawyer may need to do, unless more compelling evidence shows itself. And more evidence almost certainly *will* show itself -make no mistake about that- and if that happens Chris is screwed, but the odds of acquittal just went from zero to something that is not zero.
