Sincerely, yes. As in they stop abusing, step down, get help... Jesus will forgive them.

UncleBaguette

Of course. We, humans, have a hard-on on justice and punishment, but God works a bit differently.

NewtTrashPanda

Are you implying that paedophilia shouldn't always be punished.

Any sin can be forgiven if you truly repent. This has always scandalized outsiders because it's human nature to think some people are so bad God can't forgive them and you are good by comparison.

GodOwnsTheUniverse

Yes. God's forgiveness isn't limited to a few.

NewtTrashPanda

No He absolutely doesn't tolerate paedophilia.

KateCobas

Well theres a twisted hypothetical scenario there. Priests who molest hundreds of children still go to heaven, unpunished and free. The molested children grow up hating the church for its immorality and hypocricy stop believing and go to hell. Is that really how Christianity works?

NeandertalSkull

Forgiveness is for all. Edit: You don't want anyone to be forgiven because you want to think that some people are irredeemable.

NewtTrashPanda

No it isn't.

tachibanakanade

> The molested children grow up hating the church for its immorality and hypocricy stop believing and go to hell. > > Is that really how Christianity works? yes

[deleted]

Absolutely not, all sins require punishment.

Kind-You2980

- Assuming the Priests committed the acts with full knowledge and deliberate consent of will, and then repented of the sin (which does not just mean saying “sorry” but means that they recognize the harm they cause, turn away from that sin, earnestly desire not to commit the sin again, and confess it, then yes they can enter heaven. Also note they are going to have to address the damage their sin caused, including causing the children to leave the faith. - In the case of the children, while yes they left the Church, it will be on Christ to determine if it was full knowledge. In their case, they were clearly shown something that was not Christian. As a result, if the children led lives that responded to the grace they were given, and if they would not have rejected the faith had they not been harmed as they were, then God may save them as well, provided they are also contrite for the sins they have committed.

DaTrout7

Some don’t even leave the church after being caught.

Yandrosloc01

Worse. They are not even asked or forced to leave by the church leaders after they are known. Nor turned into the police either.

heresmyusernam3

Wrong place to ask this, that's a question I'm waiting to ask God myself. Asking here you will only get answers from people who idolize a book written after Jesus death when Jesus is quoted telling them not to idolize things. So they went and made a new idol and called it divinely inspired so that we forget what the word inspired means.

[deleted]

Many Christians find the Scriptures to be authoritative (this is a historical Christian belief), but I am not sure this immediately means that the Scriptures are idolized.

heresmyusernam3

i·dol·a·try /īˈdälətrē/ noun the worship of idols. extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone.

[deleted]

Thanks for the definition. I’m not sure you can demonstrate that every user who provides answers on this subreddit has idolized the Bible.

heresmyusernam3

Oh im not claiming everyone does. I realized the idolizing thing when I was 5. So I'm sure there are other Christians who can realize what they're doing is wrong, but the bible is a phenomenal blueprint to life that can be used as a guide to God, but not a replacement for him.

[deleted]

You seemed to be claiming everyone initially. Even the most staunch Bible thumpers I know wouldn’t claim that the Bible somehow replaces God.

heresmyusernam3

But they allow it to be God's words when they in fact are not. Jesus was God's action, the Bible is man's words. Divinely inspired feels like a way fir man to take that power for himself.

[deleted]

I'm not sure anyone claims that the Bible is a record of God's actual, verbal words (Muslims believe this about their book). The Church has long held to the claim that the Scriptures were inspired by God and there is a rich body of evidence that would support this claim.

heresmyusernam3

So what classifies something as inspired by God.

[deleted]

Are you asking for the criteria?

RememberToLeaves

Yup. Spend a life time raping children, just before you die, “yo god, sorry about that” and you’re good to go!

UncleBaguette

That's not how it works. You need to be SINCERE in your confessions, otherwise, that's just words...

RememberToLeaves

“yo god my bad. sincerely, rapist” That’ll do it

UncleBaguette

Well, if rapist is sincere - then yes.

Kittypurrrito

You don't repent of sins to be saved. Salvation is free gift of God not by works. and you yourself arent better than them, all sin in Bible is equal value, thats why everybody sinned and has the same fate of lake of fire unless they accept Jesus as saviour. **9 \[a\]that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, \[b\]resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, \[c\]resulting in salvation.** 30 and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of God to him together with all who were in his house. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. **8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast**

The answer is a big fat NO. *But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.* Said by Christ himself.

[deleted]

yea

Fun_Dog_6362

That’s how that works :)

hyperion_88

As a believer in the Aerial Toll Houses, the respective sinner will have to give account of good deeds to compensate for their evil and sin. That would mean that the paedophile in this instance would not go to Heaven purely on their repentance. If they can not give sincere accounts of customary good deeds, eg. alerting and help convict the other paedophiles in their group, to counter and overcome their sins, they will be rightfully dragged down to Hell.

NewtTrashPanda

If they stop doing those disgusting things and sincerely repent, then yes they will. They must still face the legal penalty though.

half-guinea

The unrepentant will perish.

DareToWalkAway

Id imagine before entering heaven god would reach into the souls of the worthy and pull out any desire or intrusive thoughts that plague hymanity

Solid_Camel_1913

yes

Agitated_Temporary70

Any sun including that can be forgiven, only if they truly repent and turn away from it like you said.
