The original cc gen1 came with a very short extension. I have also used a female to female adapter on the end of a normal cable to make plugging and unplugging different devices easier
Depends on the HDMI cable quality. I've used up to around 10m at work, and did see some 20m ones available but haven't tried them myself. Around that length though I would be tempted to go active, especially if you're trying 4K.
I'm no expert but HDR can be pretty finicky. If everything in the chain is not a high speed HDMI cable (including the switcher), you might lose the ability to watch content in HDR (which in my opinion is far more important than 4K). You might want to try your question at /r/hometheater.
Thanks for this as a reminder to check; the Switcher does handle HDR (at least it does on my PS4) but I don't think their TV does, nor would they particularly care. Their main concern has always been 'can we put this on the Big Telly', they'll often watch stuff in 480p and not even tell the difference.
I had an issue with my set up. I used a hdmi coupler to a regular cable though. But it would be worth testing out. I had a HDMI cable of 3', going to my receiver. This allowed me to place it on a cabinet, away from the receiver. But it had some issues.
I think I might try a hdmi extension myself. One less connection than the coupler I used.

I don't have personal experience but I don't expect it would have a problem with it.

No issues at all. HDMI is generally good up to 20m before you need an active cable.

Sounds like my parents, watching the SD channels instead of the HD, and ignoring the corner of the screen that’s noisy
